Chapter 3 - Saving

Soon, there was a knock at the door. It was heavy and though most of the beings that Gabriel had to deal with would not normally care to have the same pleasantries that some of the humans did he did know of some. He went over to the door to the dwelling that he resided in. Though on the outskirts of the city, it was still close enough so he could watch and be close by, but not have to really cohabitate with humans. He slowly opened the door and looked over at the creature that was in front of him.

"Gabriel, So glad to see you again. What has it been a few thousand years I would presume? Now your brother sent a message that you would need my help. I find that somewhat odd." The cheery older man chuckled as he waited for Gabriel to open the door more. Though Gabriel knew exactly who this was he was surprised at the difference in the appearance of the male. "Now, may I see the patient?"

"Of course." Gabriel said as he opened the door wide for the now very rotund person to walk into the dwelling. As he did, the man looked around. There was not much in the house. He had no need for decorations or other things. He had deemed fluff that humans wasted time and their money on.

"Not much by way of decoration you have here. I mean you have been here what a few hundred years?"

"A hundred." Gabriel looked at him. The changes were too much for him not to ask, "Ronald, what happened to you?"

"Oh, the change?" Ronald asked as he chuckled deeply. He was the personification of the jolly old man. Gabriel knew better. "I decided I was going to fit in while I was also earth bound. It is nice to fit in."

"Is it a shimmer?" Gabriel asked. The silence in the house said most of the answer. Though he had known Ronald for thousands of years, it seemed that you could never really know anyone, really. Once a proud angel who was one of the ones that was held in great esteem, now he was nothing but a rotund looking human on the surface of the earth trapped and never being able to go back to their places in the sky.

"No." Ronald then laughed hard. "Trust me it is no easy task to achieve this with our abilities of working anything off. No, my boy this was pure gluttony to which is the other reason I was sent here to live and banished from our heavenly home. My greed grew. However, I have tried to let that go. The vices that one might have and all that should of course be outgrown and then forgiven. I am working on the overeating and I do hope to find my way back home someday."

"Well, she is over here." Gabriel said as he motioned for the man to look at the figure that was lying on the bed. "I believe she was poisoned with Demon's blood."

The house was small. There was no need for something bigger in his mind. From the entryway you could see into most of the rooms. Gabriel, as a watcher, liked to be able to see things quickly. It was his nature. He could not change the way he was even in something as small as a house. The other person had followed him and stopped. They could also feel her mixed energy. It was swirling all around them as moved closer to the room.

Gabriel was feeling much more than just the energy as well. He could not explain the emotions that he had. He was not one of the few of the Angels that had them. Those came later in hopes of even the playing field with the Angels and the humans on the plane they were on. The creator had never wanted the ones he had made in his image to fight because of something like emotions or free will. However, that is exactly what happened.

The wars were not just because of questions, but also which ones the creator had favored. Angels were always going to be left in the creator's service. The humans were always going to be the ones running around, breaking the rules. There would always remain an imbalance between them. Though right now Gabriel did not care about the humans in general. Only this one that was laid out on the bed in his house. He could not explain why. That was also getting to him.

"She is not human." Ronald looked up at Gabriel. Mixed creatures were normally looked down upon within their circle. "I do not know what she is. I have never seen anything like her before. I am not sure I am the one you need."

"Well, I need someone to do something. I know she is not human. She would be dead if she was. Carisska was the one who poisoned her. For some reason, she wants this creature dead, and I was in a place that I could save her. The fact she is not dead is the reason I know I am supposed to. So if you can't, then maybe you should go ahead and leave."

"There is one sure proof way to save her." Ronald looked at him. "Though it would bind you two for the rest of your natural lives. Lucky for you, she is not immortal like you are still, I would assume. At least she does not appear to be. Though without further testing there is no way to know for sure what she is or isn't."

"What is that way? "Gabriel demanded. The air in the small house seemingly went away, as he was losing his temper. That was never a good sign for anything working as it should and anyone who was near him who could tell what was going on. The temperature around the area also dropped. He knew the humans could pick up on things like that, but for some reason completely overlooked those fluctuations. The air outside was also still. The wind had stopped. Nothing was moving at all, including the leaves on the trees around the house. No animal or other creature seemed to move as they knew it might direct the angels' vengeance their way. Only an angel could get that reaction from other creatures like them.

Ronald looked at him and sighed. Gabriel had always been a hothead. He was made to be that way. Righteous and fiery. There was nothing new there. Except for his concern over the woman. That might be the only thing that was not by design. It could also be a part of the design in a different way. No one would ever really know. This might not be a bad idea either, though Ronald knew it could easily backfire. Either way, he was not going to be around to deal with the aftermath. He would only hear about it if it worked. He could be hunted down if it failed. It was not his fight either way. The interesting thing would be to see the Angel's reaction to it all. Though again, he was not going to be there. In a few hundred years, they might be able to talk about it without him getting into a fight and having to try and save himself from the Angel's wrath.

"The only real antidote to Demon's blood is angels' blood." The larger man said as he walked to the door. "An angel's kiss, which is what it is called, though has lasting effects. It will bind you to her for her lifetime. That is the real reason that Angels were banned from interfering with the humans. Too many had fallen prey to their own curse. Gabriel, only you can save her. However, you might lose yourself in the process."

The door opened and then shut, leaving him standing over the woman who was lying still in his bed. He could feel her energy. He knew she was still alive. The answers that the man had laid out before him were not the ones he wanted to hear. He knew of the curse. He knew of the reasons humans and Angels could not interact. She was not a human, though. He didn't know what would happen if he did save her. The unknown was all around him now and he did not like it. Though the one thing he did know was she was dying. Slowly, but surely dying in front of him and it was hurting him in a way he had never felt before.

He had seen the things that could happen when hybrids get involved with an angel. They are often destroyed. The surrounding power is too great. However, he also had to know why Carisska wanted this creature dead. There was a bigger picture that the humans always liked to say. It was only something he could do. He had to find out.

He looked down at her body and knew she was fighting, but she was also losing. One drop of his blood could end this pain for her. Just one drop. That was all he could give her. He didn't think it would really take over her or him if it was only one drop. Now he was trying to rationalize the action though he had seen firsthand the effects that would be there afterward. He would be bond to her for the rest of his life. Not as Ronald had stated. It was more that he would be bound to her for the rest of his life, not her bound to him for her life.

He then went over to the kitchen he had and took out a knife. He then walked back to her prone body. "One drop. If that doesn't save you, I do not know what will." With the words spoken out loud, he knew that he was taking a chance. It was a hard chance to swallow. That was all he thought as he slit open his finger and then watched as not only one drop fell, but a few. They had run into her mouth and then he knew he was done for. He then tipped her head back. There was no point in letting his blood go to waste. As she swallowed softly, he now saw her in a completely new light. She seemed to be glowing from within her.
