Damn it!
Claire Sinclair was a bit forgetful and often forgot her keys, so she'd given Logan Linden a spare to hold onto.
'That goddamn scumbag! How dare he show his face in my apartment after we broke up!'
"Logan, who said you could come in here? Get the hell out right now!"
Unable to contain her rage, Claire Sinclair stormed over to throw him out.
She had barely taken two steps when her body suddenly went limp. Unable to muster any strength, she was forced to stop and steady herself against the wall.
Logan strode toward her, his eyes glinting with a lust for revenge. "Claire, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
In their two years of dating, he had never once touched Claire Sinclair.
It wasn't that he didn't want to, but he couldn't bring himself to do it when she was always so exhausted after her part-time jobs. Besides, he already had a bombshell like Melanie Sinclair.
After their breakup just now, he'd done a lot of thinking. He decided he couldn't let the time and energy he'd invested in her over the past two years go to waste.
He had to get his hands on everything—not just the two million, but her body as well.
'Tonight, I'll slaughter this fattened lamb!'
...
Even if Claire Sinclair wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, she could still put two and two together in a situation like this.
'There was something wrong with that glass of water...'
'That despicable animal, Logan! He must have drugged the water!'
As Logan advanced on her, Claire fought through the growing unease in her body and stumbled backward.
"Don't come any closer..."
"You're not feeling well. I can help you with that."
"I don't need your help! Stay away from me!"
Claire started to panic. In her current state, she was no different from a helpless damsel in a drama who could scream her lungs out without anyone coming to the rescue. She was completely powerless to resist.
'No, I absolutely cannot fall into his hands!'
'I can't let a goddamn scumbag like him take my innocence!'
Just as Logan was about to touch her shoulder, a desperate idea struck Claire. Gritting her teeth, she said, "Don't you just want my sister's compensation money? If you let me go, I'll give you 1.5 million."
A greedy glint appeared in Logan's eyes, but she had agreed too quickly. He wasn't sure if she was really giving in, so he tested her. "You're willing to part with 1.5 million?"
"As long as you don't touch me, I'll give you the bank card. But you can only take 1.5 million."
"Where is it?" As she'd hoped, Logan was tempted.
'He was even thinking that once he had the card and PIN, whether he took 1.5 million or the full 2 million would be up to him.'
Claire forced a calm expression. "It's not on me. The money was issued to my sister by Quincy Manor. Before she died, she arranged for it to be left only to me, not even my dad. That means I'm the only one who can go to Quincy Manor to pick up the bank card."
Logan stared at her flushed face as if she were an idiot. "Claire, just because you're a fool doesn't mean I am. You really think I'm going to fall for that bullshit?"
Claire's expression didn't waver. "I swear on my sister's name, it's the truth. If you don't believe me, take me to Quincy Manor and ask them yourself. We can make it if we go now, before they close."
Logan stared into her eyes suspiciously, his mind racing.
'Claire was usually so indecisive she'd call him over trivial things like whether to buy chicken or duck eggs. The idea that she was smart enough to come up with a stalling tactic now seemed… unlikely.'
'Besides, she was fiercely protective of her sister's reputation. He'd made a casual joke about her sister once, and she'd given him the silent treatment for a whole week. It took ages of coaxing before she finally forgave him.'
'So, he figured she wouldn't dare lie about something like this.'
'Since she was already drugged and completely powerless to resist him, he might as well take a trip to Quincy Manor first.'
'And who knew? Maybe halfway there, she wouldn't be able to stand it anymore and would end up crying and begging him to take her right there in the car.'
