Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Drugging

One of the onlookers couldn't stand it anymore. Just as Logan Linden was about to walk out the door, they threw their leftover dessert right at his back.

"Get the hell out of here, you bastard!"

The person shouted after throwing it, then turned back to give Claire Sinclair a sympathetic look.

"Hey, don't be sad. A scumbag like him isn't worth your tears."

"Yeah, that's right! Don't be sad. You'll meet a much better man!"

"Listen to me, kid. Whatever you do, don't give him any money. A scumbag like that should just drop dead!"

"#@%#..."

And just like that, Logan Linden left in disgrace, leaving Claire Sinclair all alone.

Suddenly, she had to face so many strangers all by herself. Even though they were only showing concern, she still felt completely overwhelmed.

She'd had low self-esteem since childhood and suffered from mild social anxiety, so she wasn't used to being in crowded places. Blushing, she said, "Thank you, everyone. I'm going to go find a lawyer. Goodbye."

'Compared to Logan running off with his tail between his legs, my exit was even more pathetic.'

She hated her own weakness. 'Whenever something happens, I can never be like my sister and make the most rational, decisive choice. It's always like this...'

She hadn't been sad about the breakup itself, but the sudden thought of the only relative in the world who was ever good to her made her spirits plummet.

She desperately wanted to cry, but she had promised her sister she would be strong. She couldn't cry...

Holding back tears, Claire Sinclair got on the bus to head back to her rented apartment.

She would definitely find a lawyer, just not right now. Besides, it was already getting dark.

She felt so tired...

She'd never realized breaking up took so much energy. It left her so exhausted that all she wanted to do was hide away and rest, to not face the world.

She was completely unaware that after she boarded the bus, a private car parked by the roadside began to tail her.

...

「Half an hour later, Claire Sinclair arrived.」

After getting off the bus, she trudged listlessly back to her apartment and took out her key to open the door.

It was a small, one-bedroom apartment she rented in an old building. No matter how clean she kept it, the place still looked old and shabby.

The kitchen and dining area were combined, with a bathroom to the side and the bedroom opposite it. There wasn't even a proper living room. The rent was incredibly cheap—only 800 yuan a month.

Claire had tried to get Logan Linden to stay the night before, but he always came up with some excuse. She hadn't understood why back then, but now she finally did.

'He clearly looked down on this dump I call home.'

'On top of that, I don't know how to please a man, and I'm completely obsessed with money... Any normal guy would go for a woman like Melanie Sinclair—someone who knows how to act cute and is good in bed.'

'Whatever. At least I'm still a virgin. It's not like I lost anything.'

Once inside, Claire habitually poured herself a glass of cool water and guzzled it down in several large gulps.

She felt refreshed after drinking, but the feeling quickly faded, and she slumped again.

'Refreshed my ass! I just got my heart broken!'

'Screw that. I'm not heartbroken. This is a new beginning!'

Lost in thought, she suddenly felt the room was a little hot. She turned on the electric fan and aimed it directly at her face.

After a few moments, she still felt hot. It was like a fire was burning inside her. 'What's happening to me?'

This had never happened to Claire Sinclair before. She couldn't figure out what was causing it and assumed she was just hot from being outside, so she loosened her collar a little.

A short while later, she felt even hotter...

'That's weird. Could I have heatstroke?'

Just as Claire Sinclair was about to get a thermometer to check her temperature, a figure suddenly emerged from the bedroom.
