Chapter 92 - Chapter 91

The campfire crackled quietly, its orange embers dancing against the looming stone faces of the mountain gorge. Night in the high altitudes of the Demon Country was a bitter, quiet affair. The mountain wind whistled through the pine needles with a sharp, low pitch, carrying the smell of crushed pine cones and cold rain. Below the cliff, a narrow glacial river churned wildly over jagged dark rocks, its roaring waters echoing softly through the canyon.

Inside the small leather tents pitched around the clearing, quiet settled over the squad. Naruto's words from earlier still hung heavy in the crisp mountain air.

"Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present."

To Priestess Shion, who had spent her entire life chained to the terrifying certainty of her visions, those words were nothing short of a seismic shift in her reality. For the first time since her childhood, she slept without clutching her chest in cold terror.

Inside his personal tent, cross-legged on a woven straw mat, Naruto Uzumaki sat motionless. His eyes were closed, his breathing long and deliberate. His chest rose and fell in perfect synchronization with the rhythmic ebb and flow of the ambient natural energy circulating around the clearing. Within his mindscape, however, the scene was entirely different.

The subterranean sewer chamber was bathed in a dull, golden illumination. Water trickled continuously from overhead pipes, creating rippling pools beneath Naruto's feet as he walked toward the massive iron gates. Behind the vertical iron bars sat the Nine-Tails—Kurama. The colossal fox lay sprawled across the damp stone, nine heavy tails swaying lazily behind him like volcanic plumes. His massive head rested on his left paw, his chin angled downward as a single slit-pupiled, crimson eye locked onto the young shinobi standing before him.

"So, brat," Kurama's deep, reverberating voice echoed off the damp walls, rattling the very foundations of the mindscape. "You do realize that Mōryō requires the priestess to break his primary seal if he wants to reclaim his physical vessel, right? So why are you escorting her directly to his doorstep?"

Naruto smirked, resting his hands behind his head as he stepped onto the water's surface without sinking an inch. "I want to test this Mōryō guy," Naruto replied, his tone relaxed yet grounded. "I want to see how much my baseline output has grown against an ancient entity. Besides, Shion needs to reach that inner chamber. She needs to face her mother Miroku's legacy directly if she's ever going to break out of this fragile mindset."

Kurama let out a deep, gravelly huff that blew a gust of hot, humid air through the iron bars. "Mōryō was never anything special. Even back during the era when I was free and roaming the continent, he was just a glorified blob of condensed malice. Though I suppose centuries of containment might have made him slightly less insufferable."

"My words at the campfire gave her a push," Naruto continued, his expression shifting into something more contemplative. "But she's lived under the weight of people's fear and judgment her whole life. You don't undo years of isolation with a single night's speech. She acts like a spoiled princess because she thinks throwing tantrums is the only way people will acknowledge her existence."

Kurama chuckled—a low, rhythmic rumble that shook the water beneath Naruto's boots. "Hmph. Sounds like a certain blond brat I used to know back in Konoha."

"Hey! Laugh it off, why don't you?" Naruto grumbled, scratching his cheek. "I was way more refined than her!"

"You painted faces on the Hokage Monument in neon orange," Kurama deadpanned, his crimson eye narrowing slightly. "Regardless... don't get careless, Naruto. Mōryō may be a lower-tier entity compared to the Tailed Beasts, but his core composition is derived entirely from human hatred."

"Hatred doesn't scare me anymore, Kurama," Naruto said calmly, his gaze firm. "People curse what they don't understand—whether it's power, wealth, or bad luck. Mōryō is just all those curses mashed together into a physical shape. He's nothing I haven't seen before."

"Hmph. Just make sure you clear out those stone soldiers quickly," Kurama rumbled, adjusting his massive front paws. "They're decent target practice for your new jutsu combinations."

"That's the plan," Naruto grinned, turning on his heel as his figure began to fade into golden particles of light. "I'm heading out. Get some rest, Kurama."

"Get lost, brat," Kurama muttered, waving a massive tail dismissively as he closed his eyes, settling back into the dark shadows of the cage.

At five in the morning, the sky above the mountain range broke into shades of cold violet and bruised orange. The morning air was biting. Frost coated the blades of grass around the campsite, glittering like crushed diamonds under the rising sun. A steady alpine wind swept through the gorge, carrying the scent of damp earth and snow melt from the higher peaks.

By the time the first rays of light cresting the eastern ridges hit the clearing, Team Naruto had already dismantled their camp. Ino Yamanaka wiped her forehead, sealing the last sleeping scroll into her waist pouch with a crisp click. Beside her, Rock Lee was busily performing high-speed leg stretches, his green jumpsuit rustling as his boots kicked through the frost. Hinata Hyūga stood near the edge of the rocky ledge, her long blue hair swaying softly in the mountain breeze as her white eyes scanned the distant horizons.

Thanks to Naruto's swift execution of Yomi's dark followers the previous evening, the mountain path ahead was eerily quiet. The oppressive, rancid chakra that had hovered over the region had dissipated considerably.

"Path is clear ahead for three miles," Hinata reported, her voice quiet but precise as her Byakugan deactivated, the veins around her temples smoothing out. "No immediate ambushes detected."

"Good," Naruto said, stepping forward as he tightened the leather strap of his equipment pouch. "Let's keep up this pace. We reach the central shrine before noon."

The group moved as a single unit, vaulting across the jagged gray rock formations with practiced ease. Shion walked near the center of the formation, guarded closely by her chief attendant, Taruho. Though her face was pale, her step was notably firmer than it had been the day before.

Two hours later, the mountain trail narrowed into a massive, horseshoe-shaped canyon. Below them lay the entrance to the main mountain shrine—a massive structure carved directly into the heart of a volcanic mountain face. However, blocking the canyon floor was a sight that made even the experienced shinobi pause. A massive legion of stone soldiers stood in dense, ironclad ranks. Thousands of stone monoliths, their eyes glowing with dark, crimson chakra, filled the canyon floor from wall to wall. The sound of their synchronized, heavy footfalls vibrated through the earth like a continuous earthquake.

"There are too many..." Taruho whispered, his hand trembling as he gripped the hilt of his short sword. "They've completely walled off the main descent!"

Naruto stepped to the absolute edge of the cliff, looking down at the army with an unreadable expression.

"Change of plans," Naruto declared, his voice cutting through the rising wind. "Lee, Ino, Hinata. Take Shion and Taruho and circle around the western ridge. There's a high-altitude drainage tunnel that leads directly into the shrine's inner sanctum where Mōryō's body is held. You guys move ahead."

Shion's breath caught in her throat. She pushed past Taruho, staring at Naruto's back. "What about you?! You can't stay here alone!"

"Someone has to hold this canyon, Princess," Naruto replied without turning around. "If we all force our way through the front, this entire army will pin us inside the narrow halls of the shrine. If the structure collapses, Mōryō's seal breaks automatically."

Shion clenched her small fists until her knuckles turned white. She lowered her head, her voice cracking as she spoke. "This is it... This canyon... this is the exact place where I saw you die in my vision!"

The words struck the squad like a physical blow.

"What?!" Ino gasped, her hands flying to her mouth.

Hinata's composure shattered instantly. "N-Naruto-kun! No! You can't stay here if—"

"Naruto!" Lee shouted, his usual boisterous energy replaced by dead seriousness. "We fight together! As a team, we can break through their lines without leaving you behind!"

Naruto turned his head slowly, looking over his shoulder. A broad, confident grin broke across his face, his blue eyes shining with absolute resolve.

"I already told you, Princess," Naruto said, his voice ringing across the windy canyon. "I don't care about prophecies. And I'm not dying here. I haven't become Hokage yet, and there isn't a force on this earth that can pull me down before I achieve my dream." He looked directly at Shion, his smile softening. "I give you my word. I will wipe out this stone legion, and then I'll join you in the inner chamber to make sure that demon stays sealed forever. That's a promise of a lifetime."

The conviction in his voice was absolute. Ino, Hinata, and Lee stood frozen for a beat, knowing better than anyone that once Naruto Uzumaki made a promise, no force in the world could alter his course.

"You are so ridiculously stubborn!" Shion cried out, tears streaming down her cheeks. "Why do you always have to take the hardest path?!" She reached into her robes, hastily pulling out a small, exquisite silver bell tied with a red silk cord. "Take this! It's my personal talisman! If you die with it in your pocket, I'll never forgive you!"

Naruto caught the bell mid-air, slipping it carefully into his jacket pocket. "Thanks, Princess. I'll give it back when we're done."

Without waiting another second, Naruto unclipped a black-hilted kunai from his holster and flung it straight into the sky above the canyon. As the kunai reached the peak of its trajectory high above the cloud line, Naruto raised two fingers in a classic hand seal.

"See you guys on the other side," he said with a wink.

In a flash of golden light, Naruto vanished from the cliff edge, reappearing instantly high in the sky directly above the center of the stone army.

Free-falling through the howling mountain air, Naruto brought his hands together in a cross-shaped seal.

"Sage Art: Wind Style - Rasenshuriken!"

A massive, high-density shuriken formed from screaming wind energy erupted in his right hand. The surrounding atmosphere was instantly vacuumed toward the rotating sphere, creating a deafening, high-pitched screech that echoed through the entire valley like a screeching storm. Naruto hurled the massive vortex downward.

The Rasenshuriken detonated upon impact in the center of the stone legion. A massive, hemispherical dome of white wind blades expanded outward for three hundred yards, instantly vaporizing hundreds of stone soldiers into microscopic dust. The sheer kinetic shockwave blew a crater fifty feet deep into the solid bedrock of the canyon floor.

Naruto landed dead center in the crater, his boots cracking the stone beneath him. In an instant, Naruto tapped into both Natural Energy and Kurama's vast chakra reserves. His eyes changed dramatically—the toad-style horizontal bar crossed perfectly with Kurama's vertical slit, forming a precise crimson cross against golden irises. Sage-Kurama Mode activated instantly, his baseline physical output multiplying tenfold without needing the full yellow chakra cloak.

In his right hand, the Nine-Tails Cutter unsheathed with a lethal, metallic ring.

"Let's clean house!" Naruto yelled.

With a single horizontal sweep of his katana, a massive arc of golden chakra sliced through fifty stone soldiers at once, their heavy upper torsos sliding off their legs before exploding into rubble.

"Water Style: Water Dragon Jutsu!"

Naruto brought his left hand down. A colossal dragon formed from high-pressure glacial water erupted from the nearby river, roaring through the ranks of the legion and sweeping away entire platoons of stone infantry.

Without pausing, he shifted his stance. "Lightning Style: Lightning Hound!"

Arcs of violent blue lightning discharged from his palm, shaping into a pack of high-speed wolves that tore through the remaining vanguards, short-circuiting the dark chakra cores animating the statues.

"Earth Style: Stone Edge!"

Naruto slammed his bare fist directly into the canyon bed. The earth groaned violently as massive, jagged pillars of bedrock erupted from the ground in a circular radius, impaling hundreds of stone units and hurling them into the cliff walls.

"Fire Style: Flame Blast!"

A torrent of blinding crimson fire erupted from his mouth, melting the stone armor of the advancing reinforcements into molten slag.

"Wind Style: Hyper Tornado!"

Naruto spun his body at supersonic speeds, creating a localized hurricane of compressed wind blades that swept up the molten wreckage, pulverizing the entire central vanguard into complete annihilation. He was a one-man war machine, orchestrating elemental destruction on a scale never before seen in the mountain pass.

While Naruto reduced the stone army to dust in the canyon, Lee, Hinata, Ino, Shion, and Taruho sprinted through the dark, damp stone tunnels beneath the volcanic mountain. They emerged into a massive, cavernous hall. At the far end stood the main altar—a massive stone sphere suspended over a pool of boiling black sludge, glowing with ominous purple runes.

Standing before the altar was Yomi, his eyes entirely dark and his body grotesquely swollen with Mōryō's dark chakra.

"You're too late, Priestess!" Yomi rasped, his voice sounding like two grinding stones. "The seal on his physical vessel is already shattered! Mōryō's spirit has reclaimed his true form!"

"Shion! Start the sealing ritual now!" Taruho shouted, drawing his short sword to guard her flank.

Shion immediately stepped onto the ritual circle, raising her hands as a soft, white barrier of holy light began to expand around her frame.

"I won't let you!" Yomi roared, leaping forward with terrifying speed.

"Fifth Gate: Gate of Limit - OPEN!"

Rock Lee erupted into a red-skinned blur of motion, his speed breaking the sound barrier as he intercepted Yomi mid-air.

Lee's flying kick struck Yomi's defensive barrier, sending shockwaves rippling across the dark pool below.

"Earth Style: Earth Dragon Bullets!" Ino shouted, weaving hand seals alongside Hinata, who executed a sweeping Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palm to keep Yomi's dark tendrils from reaching the altar.

"Get away from her!" Hinata yelled, her palms striking the air with force, driving Yomi back toward the central pedestal.

However, Yomi merely laughed—a dark, sickening sound that reverberated through the cavern walls.

"Foolish children," Yomi sneered as his body began to dissolve into dark, liquid tentacles. "You don't understand... the priestess's presence isn't what stops the ritual—it's the final component required to complete it!"

The black pool beneath the altar erupted. A massive, hydra-like beast formed from pure dark energy rose from the dark sludge. Nine dragon-like heads, each sporting glowing red eyes, emerged from the abyss, their collective roar shaking the entire volcanic structure. Mōryō's physical vessel had fully integrated with his spirit.

Before Shion could complete the final hand seal for her mother's ritual, a dark chakra tendril burst from the ceiling above her, bypassing her white barrier entirely.

"Ah... at last!" Mōryō's deep, booming voice echoed from all nine heads simultaneously. "The sacred bloodline of Miroku... absorbed at last!"

The dark tendril wrapped around Shion's waist, dragging her screaming body directly into the dark mass of Mōryō's central core.

"Shion!" Ino shrieked in horror.

"NO!" Lee yelled, attempting to launch himself forward, but a massive wave of dark energy blasted all three Konoha shinobi backward, slamming them hard against the stone walls of the cavern.

Inside the dark core of the beast, Shion felt herself sinking into cold, suffocating darkness. Her sacred power was being drained at a terrifying rate, her consciousness fading as the ancient demon claimed absolute control over her bloodline.

Is this... how it ends? she thought, her vision darkening as the cold dark energy enveloped her completely. Was my vision right after all...?

Outside the shrine, the sky turned pitch black as Mōryō's full power unleashed upon the continent once more.
