Victor said nothing. From the driver's seat, Steven Han couldn't help but smile and try to smooth things over.
"Sir, since Miss Cruz admitted her mistake so sincerely, why don't you forgive her this once?"
The temperature inside the car dropped instantly. Victor's gaze turned sharp, his voice cool and cutting.
"Since when did you and Miss Cruz become close enough to plead for each other?"
Steven Han's smile froze on his face. In the next second, it vanished completely. He straightened his back at once, putting on the posture of a model subordinate trying to distance himself from trouble.
"No, no such thing, Sir. I misspoke. Please pretend I didn't say anything just now."
It was over.
Steven Han's heart pounded wildly. He had never seen Victor show even the slightest hint of affection toward a woman before, and he had carelessly crossed a line. How could he have forgotten that joking around was a privilege he did not have?
