Right now Rowan was fighting a whale.
Not in the ocean.
Not in water.
They were suspended in something vast and endless, a space that felt heavy and pressing, like the world itself was holding its breath.
The whale was enormous. Dark and unyielding, its body cutting through the space with terrifying ease. Each time Rowan gathered his strength and shoved it away, each time he forced it back with everything he had, the creature would retreat only for a moment.
Then it came back.
Again.
And again.
And again.
Rowan clenched his teeth, planting his feet as he pushed against its massive form. His arms burned. His chest ached.
"Stay down!" he shouted, voice echoing uselessly.
The whale let out a deep, resonant sound—not angry, not aggressive. Just stubborn. Unmoving in its intent.
Rowan flung it away once more, watching it disappear into the distance.
He barely had time to breathe.
The space rippled.
