FINN MERTENS
It's been about ten days since I woke up, my days have been rather uneventful though, meeting with friends, going for my physical examinations then playing video games with Jake till late at night then the nurse comes in and forces me to sleep.
Today was the day i was going to get discharged from the hospital, I was laid on a long glass hospital table about my size.
The transparent glass glowed a low green then I felt a slight prickle of pain wash over me. I had healed far quicker than I ought to have due to the new technology, guess there are some perks from the other universes.
After about two minutes, the pain subsided and the glowing stopped, I sat upright and stared at my body.
Other than a few more scars, I was completely healed. I brushed my hand against my shirtless body, around my shoulder where I was previously impelled, by far the biggest scar left off but it was also kind of cool.
"Alright Finn, you're free to leave", said the nurse-a nice older darkskinned woman not like the nurses I knew a while ago.
A shiver ran down my spine as o thought of those clown nurses.
"Don't get so hurt again, okay??", she pleaded even letting out a slight smile.
"Hmm, I don't know how well that'll go", I said while chuckling.
I grabbed my hospital shirt and left the small hospital room, Jake was out there waiting for me.
"So you finally done??", he asked expectantly.
"Yup, let's get changed and go meet my mom".
We got to my room and I got changed into a blue up and down which was mainly like my original get up except well, a bit longer shorts then kept my sword and it's sheath at my back.
"Where BMO anyways??".
"He said he'd go over to your mom to convince her to let him join our team", Jake replied.
"Is it really safe for him though??", I asked walking out the hospital.
"That's what I thought too but he says he knows a way".
We reached the main entrance and met with the secretary who was already very used to seeing us.
"You guys should head upstairs to the roof, Miss Minerva is expecting you".
"The roof??", I questioned but only got a nod back.
Stepping into the small elevator, we made our way to the top floor where the offices were then we found another stairway and went up.
The stench of sweat combined with oil and the sound of ruckus greeted us first though, the whole floor was filled with a collection of large sparring rings, with large and small dummies and even an enclosed area possibly for flame users.
We even walked in on a little spar going on between Lemongrab and the female version of me-Fiona.
She was even on the offensive, sending heavy slashes left and right but Lemongrab stood, parrying each slash, his face stoic, almost disinterested but not quite off guard.
Then she finally struck with a kick to his stomach sending him a few feet back then she started bolting towards him.
Lemongrab held his sword up to his face, then shut his eyes almost like he was meditating which would be pretty stupid during a spar or fight.
Fiona kept rushing over to him, only about eight feet from him, she began readying her blade but Lemongrabs eyes snapped open and he quickly thrusted his blade in-front of her.
I felt a slight shockwave first, then an even greater force, like a concentration of wind, pushed Fiona off her feet and into the walls.
"Woah", I said in awe.
"Oh yeah, Lemongrab is strong now", Jake said matter-of-factly.
"Fuck!", Fiona grunted, seemingly feeling no damage from the collision. "Really thought I could psych you out if I was fast enough".
"You may have if you were a bit closer", he says while helping her up.
They both wore these black skin tight clothing which I think was the reason behind their lack of damage.
"Hey Finn! How are you doing?!", she asked while waving at me.
"I'm good!! Nice spar!".
"Hey Finn!? Jake?!", a voice called from behind us.
My mom now coming up the same flight of stairs, small box in hand.
"Great to see you're better, just got done with the last modifications to your hand", she said while handing me the box.
I sighed while looking at my mom in her human-like form, although I'm unsure what type of her is here now, I'm just glad she is.
"Thanks mom", I said while opening the box.
The arm was slender but compact, the same shape as my real one. There was no visible cogs or opening, kinda looked like it had the texture of skin just a bluish black and at the back of arm, a small screen was there.
"What's this f-".
"Hey Finn!".
I let out a loud scream as BMO's voice startled me, two familiar eyes and a little mouth appeared on the screen.
"BMO??", Jake asked.
"Yes Finn, Jake. I'm the last member of your squad".
"Huh?? Really?? But where's your main body".
"BMO has been pitching this idea to mf for a while but I didn't think it would work, especially with how technology is a bit distorted now but it did", my mom explained.
"Not only can he talk to you here, he can also talk on his main body and even Jake's watch".
"Hey Jake!!".
"It's essentially we can reach you especially since it's a two man squad…well I guess three. Plus now he can help send back reports and help you use all the new features of your arm".
I took my new arm and fixed it into my open area, a slight puff of steam let out of it as it locked in.
I moved it up and down a bit and played with the fingers a bit before saying, "It's perfect".
"Great, now just know you have a cooling fan, an extra blade, cutting fan, flashlight and your own robot inside".
"Thanks again mom…", I said while letting myself trail off. "Can we go out now?? I wanna look for PB and Marceline".
"I'm sorry Finn but there's more pressing matters you need to help with, I've already sent Susan's and Peppermint Butler's squad out to find them".
"What's so important??", I questioned trying not to let disappoint plaster on my face.
My mom clicked her watch a bit then a hologram came up, a mountain, filled with monsters?
"This is something we found not too long ago, I'm sending about three squads for this mission alone".
The mountain was large, stretching into the skies, monsters, big and small riddled it, not engaging in battles amongst each other but almost working together.
"As you can see something is off about these monsters, it seems like they're working together…like they're protecting something. That's the theory I have right now though, it's something we need strong squads for, that's why I need you".
"Monsters have grown in number, hostility and strength since the merge so seeing them like this is far too suspicious. We need to get to the bottom of this".
I took a deep sigh and thought about them then said, "Okay, let's do this".
