Chapter 12 - Midnight Rendezvous

The city was a labyrinth of lights and shadows as Li Wei made his way to the designated meeting spot. The street was deserted, save for a few flickering streetlamps and the occasional honk in the distance.

He felt a chill as he realized this was a trap—or maybe an invitation he couldn't resist. His pulse quickened. Kai's warning echoed in his mind: Not everyone can be trusted.

Suddenly, a figure stepped out from the shadows—smooth, deliberate, impossible to ignore. "Li Wei," a familiar voice purred. It was Tang Lei.

"You shouldn't be here," Li Wei said, trying to mask the tremor in his voice.

Tang Lei smiled, a dangerous gleam in his eyes. "But you came. Brave… or foolish. Either way, it doesn't matter."

Before Li Wei could react, a flash of movement from behind struck Tang Lei. Kai had arrived. His coat billowing in the night wind, he exuded both alpha dominance and protective intensity.

"You shouldn't have come alone," Kai said, voice low, his hand gripping Li Wei's wrist. Li Wei felt the warmth, the electric pull of being near him.

Tang Lei smirked. "Looks like the pup is finally tamed. But can he survive the storm?"

Lightning struck, illuminating Tang Lei's smirk, and a gun gleamed in his hand. Kai's grip on Li Wei tightened, almost painfully.
