Column of five thousand men entered Haunted Forest. High trees blocked out weak sun. Snow fell in heavy clumps. Link rode near front. His eyes scanned treeline for blue light.
[Status Alert: Health 85 percent]
[Status Alert: Cold Resistance 40 percent]
"Forest feels alive," Jaime Lannister said. He rode a white stallion. Gold plate of his armor was covered by black furs. "It feels like it is breathing."
"It is breathing," Link replied. "And it is hungry."
Robert Baratheon rode at head of vanguard. He looked at shadows with a grin. "Let it be hungry! I have enough steel to feed every ghost in this wood!"
Ned Stark stayed silent. He looked at white bark of weirwood trees. His hand rested on hilt of Ice. Link saw worry in eyes of Lord Stark. Ned knew history better than Robert. Ned knew that Forest did not forgive mistakes.
[System Warning: Motion detected at 300 meters]
[Alert Type: Ambush imminent]
"Halt!" Link shouted. His voice echoed through silent woods.
"What is it, boy?" Robert asked while pulling his horse to a stop.
"Shadows are moving," Link said. He pointed toward a cluster of ancient pines. "They are not behind us. They are above us."
Link looked up. Branch of a massive tree snapped. A creature dropped from height. It was not a man. It was a spider made of ice and pale silk. It was size of a hound.
[Target: Ice Spider. Rank D]
"Archers!" Ned commanded.
Arrows flew into canopy. More spiders began to descend. They did not make sound. They only moved with terrifying speed.
"Burn them!" Link yelled.
[Quest Progress: Survival in Haunted Forest]
[Objective: Protect King]
Robert laughed while swinging his hammer. He smashed first spider into frozen mist. "Finally! Some real sport!"
Link drew his glowing blade. He felt System humming. Battle for Forest had begun.
