Chapter 27 - The Diary

Tosaka Fuyuka did not tell Kazuma about what had happened that morning.

Whether it was intuition or some inexplicable impulse, she chose to conceal the fragments of memory she had regained. She silently engraved that strange scene into her heart and stepped into the school building as usual.

Kazuma had once told her that she had no friends—no close companions and no familiar faces at school. There was no need to avoid anyone. She could simply return to the classroom openly and attend classes, which might even help her recover her memories.

"So what exactly is my relationship with him… for him to help me like this?"

The doubt lingered in her heart. As for being enemies, she couldn't believe that at all.

Just then, she heard the voices of passing underclassmen greeting her.

"Good morning, Tosaka-senpai—"

With her long hair flowing gently behind her, Tosaka Fuyuka nodded.

"Good morning."

"Eh…?"

The girl who greeted her was clearly shocked by the response. The surprise was written plainly on her face. She hurriedly bowed again.

"Ah—good morning, senpai!"

"…"

Not only her, but even the surrounding students turned to look. Soft whispers drifted through the air.

"Did Tosaka-senpai just reply?"

"Is that really Tosaka Fuyuka?"

"She's changed…"

I was just responding normally. What's so strange about that?

Isn't it natural to reply when someone greets you?

Didn't I always do this?

She was completely baffled.

She hadn't been like this before. In everyone's eyes, Tosaka Fuyuka was beautiful, outstanding, and capable in every respect. She excelled at everything—but she also possessed a cold, distant personality. Of course, that disposition had been shaped by the drastic changes within the Tosaka family.

In short, this was undoubtedly the first time she had responded like this.

Even so, in Japan, no matter how stern Tosaka Fuyuka appeared, her juniors never dared complain. They still greeted her with respect.

"Good morning, Tosaka-senpai."

Realizing the stir she had caused—and understanding that she might have overturned people's previous impressions of her—she toned things down. This time, she didn't reply verbally and simply nodded. Even then, the surrounding students looked as though they had seen a ghost, leaving her feeling helpless.

Who… was I before?

After looking around and recalling Kazuma-kun's words, Tosaka Fuyuka entered Class 2-A. She scanned the room, located her seat, placed her schoolbag down, and lifted her gaze to survey the classroom.

Just as he had said, she truly had no friends at school. Although many people were secretly watching her, none approached to speak with her. Tosaka Fuyuka quietly let out a sigh of relief. If an acquaintance had come over, she wouldn't have known how to handle it.

An acquaintance…

Certain fragments surfaced again in her mind, and Tosaka Fuyuka pressed her lips together.

Kazuma—that slightly mysterious underclassman…

Leaning back in her chair, she stared blankly for a moment. With nothing else to do, she opened her schoolbag. Now that she thought about it, she hadn't really checked her belongings before. Aside from her phone, there was nothing unusual—just textbooks and reference books.

After rummaging around for a while, she suddenly pulled out a notebook from the innermost compartment.

"What's this?"

She flipped through it curiously—then her body stiffened.

She sat motionless in her chair, submerged in a strange, heavy emotion, completely unaware of the classroom around her.

Her heart began to pound violently.

"A journal…?"

Is this my diary?

Did I really have the habit of writing one?

The moment she read its contents, the memories erased by the Forgotten Grass finally began to resurface. Her heartbeat grew uncontrollable as she carefully turned the pages.

I started writing a diary in middle school.

The earlier entries recorded only trivial daily events. They weren't written consistently—just sporadically, from time to time. Even so, from the handwriting and wording, Tosaka Fuyuka could clearly feel the emotions contained within.

Because it was her own voice.

As she continued turning the pages, past memories surfaced one after another. At the same time, her movements grew faster, her eyes shining brighter—until suddenly, her hands froze, and her pupils shrank sharply.

The date on that page—

It was the day her father died.

Entries filled with despair, grief, and unbearable pain lay exposed before her eyes.

"Father…"

The girl's beautiful face turned deathly pale, filled with fear and disbelief, as though she couldn't accept what she was seeing. From that moment on, she began updating her diary with increasing frequency—almost every single day. The contents grew darker and heavier, an oppressive sense of death seeping into every line.

The word "death" appeared again and again.

At the same time, Tosaka Fuyuka's body trembled violently, her aura fluctuating without restraint. The surrounding students had no idea what was happening. They could only stare at the frightening expression on her face, none of them daring to approach. All they could do was swallow nervously.

Snap—

The diary slowly closed. She had finished reading everything.

The trembling Tosaka Fuyuka gradually steadied herself. It wasn't that her emotions had calmed—it was that her memories had finally returned.

After reading every entry, her memories were completely restored.

"Kazuma…"

When Tosaka Fuyuka spoke that name, she was no longer cold or aloof, nor did she wear her usual blank expression. Instead, her voice carried a trace of clenched anger.

"You bastard. No wonder you said those things."

He's right. I really want to punch him right now.

Especially when she remembered how he had tricked her into making a promise—and even recorded it on her phone—her heart grew restless. She quickly pulled out her phone, found the recording from the previous night, and prepared to delete it.

But after hesitating for a long time, her finger hovering over the button, she finally tapped cancel. Her brows twitched as she listened to the recording—a voice filled with her complete trust in Kazuma-kun.

"Ugh, that guy is unbelievable…" Tosaka Fuyuka collapsed onto her desk, burying her face in her arms. Scenes from the night before replayed in her mind—the ambiguous moment of sharing a bowl of instant noodles, the warmth of sleeping beside him. Her cheeks burned uncontrollably.

"What am I even doing? No—this was obviously his fault," she muttered bitterly. "How did he pull something like this off? How could I forget everything about myself?"

Although Tosaka Fuyuka showed signs of recovery, there was no way she would have regained her memories so quickly without the intense stimulation from the diary.

"Was it because of that flower? Or some kind of supernatural ability?"

Her emotions grew increasingly tangled. One moment she thought of her father's death, the next of Kazuma-kun's warmth. Then came memories of her suicidal thoughts, followed by the strange abilities he possessed.

The ripples in her heart lingered for a long time.

After a moment of contemplation, she suddenly reopened her diary, picked up her pen, and recorded everything that had happened over the past few days.

She also wrote the name Kazuma into the diary.
