Chapter 27 - Our story :)

JAY JAY POV

6 years later

"MAMAMAAAAAAA!"

Kade's tiny hands smacked my arm as he bounced on the bed like a sugar‑powered kangaroo. I groaned, dragging a pillow over my face.

Beside me, Keifer slid closer, nuzzling into my neck with a sleepy sigh.

"Jay… your son is way too excited for a four‑year‑old," he mumbled, voice thick with sleep.

I shoved the pillow off my face and glared at him.

"OUR son," I corrected.

He smirked without opening his eyes. "Mm. Still your fault."

I rolled my eyes, but my heart softened anyway.

After high school, we did two years of long‑distance — New York and Massachusetts, two different worlds, two different schedules, and one relationship we refused to let break.

We met whenever we could.

Weekends. Holidays. Random days when plane tickets were cheap and our hearts hurt too much.

And during one of those meet‑ups…

we got Kade.

I was terrified when I found out.

I thought everything would fall apart — my degree, my future, us.

But Keifer didn't even hesitate.

He moved back.

He switched to online classes.

And when I panicked, he held me and said, "We'll figure it out."

So we did.

The last two years of college, we finished together — online, exhausted, juggling deadlines and diapers.

When my classes were running, Keifer took care of Kade.

When his classes were running, I took care of Kade.

We tag‑teamed life like two idiots who refused to give up.

It was messy.

It was tiring.

It was ours.

Kade tugged my arm again. "Mamaaaa, wake up! Papa said we go park today!"

I turned slowly to Keifer.

He was pretending to sleep.

"Traitor," I whispered.

Keifer cracked one eye open, grinning like he hadn't just sold me out to our four‑year‑old. "Love you too."

Before I could shove him, the bedroom door slammed open.

"MAMAAAA—PA PAAAAA!"

Kaylee came running in like a tiny tornado, her curls bouncing everywhere. Right behind her, wobbling with his little dinosaur pajamas, was her twin brother.

"Ma ma," Keth said, arms up, demanding to be carried like the prince he believed he was.

My twins.

Two years old.

Double chaos. Double attitude. Double the reason I have permanent eye bags.

They climbed onto the bed immediately, crawling over me and Keifer like we were furniture.

"Ma, can we please go to the amusement park today?" Kade asked, practically vibrating with excitement.

I blinked at him. "Sweetheart, I thought it was the park today."

Kade shrugged. "Park is boring. Roller coasters are not."

Kaylee nodded aggressively like she was his lawyer.

Keth just hugged my arm and said, "Mamaaaa," like that was his entire argument.

Keifer sat up, kissed each of their foreheads, then leaned over and kissed my lips.

Instant mistake.

"EWWWWWW!" Keth yelled, pointing at us like we committed a crime. "That is taking us to the amusement park!"

I stared at him. "You little— you talk like you're two‑ years‑old."

He blinked at me.

"I am two," he said proudly.

Keifer burst out laughing.

I sighed.

This was my life now.

Three kids.

One husband.

Zero peace.

And honestly?

I wouldn't trade it for anything.

We got everyone dressed — which, with three kids under five, felt like preparing a small army — ate breakfast, and finally headed to the amusement park.

Kaylee immediately climbed onto Keifer's shoulders like she owned the spot, settling herself on his head as if he were a personal throne.

"Mama, when did you and Papa meet?" she asked, playing with Keifer's hair like it was yarn.

"During high school," I said, reaching out to grab Kade's shirt before he sprinted into traffic for the third time.

"Kade, stop running," I warned.

He slowed down for exactly two seconds.

Then he ran again.

Keifer laughed. "He gets that from you."

I glared at him. "He gets the chaos from you."

Kaylee gasped dramatically from her perch. "Mama, Papa, no fighting. We are in public."

Keth, holding my hand, nodded like a wise old man. "Yes. No fight. Ice cream first."

I stared at him. "Who said anything about ice cream?"

He blinked up at me with the biggest puppy eyes known to mankind. "Me."

Keifer snorted. "He's definitely yours."

I rolled my eyes, but my heart was full — overflowing, really.

A husband who still kissed me like we were teenagers.

A son who ran like he had rockets in his shoes.

Twins who acted like tiny dictators.

A life that was loud, messy, exhausting… and perfect.

And as we walked toward the amusement park gates, hand in hand, kids screaming, Keifer smiling at me like I hung the moon—

I knew I wouldn't change a single thing.

We spent the rest of the day at the amusement park — and by "spent," I mean survived.

Three kids.

Two parents.

One amusement park.

A recipe for chaos.

Kade sprinted ahead like he was training for the Olympics, Kaylee rode on Keifer's shoulders like a queen, and Keth held my hand while dragging his stuffed dinosaur along the ground like it was a leash.

The moment we stepped inside, Kade pointed at the biggest roller coaster.

"MAMA. PAPA. WE GO THERE."

I stared at the towering death machine. "Absolutely not."

Keifer leaned down, whispering in my ear, "I think we should."

I glared at him. "You think breathing is optional."

He smirked. "Only when you're yelling at me."

I shoved him lightly, but he caught my hand and kissed my knuckles like the dramatic husband he is.

Kaylee gasped. "Papa, Mama is blushing!"

"I AM NOT—"

"Ma is blushing," Keth repeated, nodding like a wise old judge.

Keifer laughed. "She always blushes when I—"

I slapped a hand over his mouth. "Finish that sentence and you're sleeping outside."

The twins giggled.

Kade rolled his eyes like a teenager trapped in a four‑year‑old body.

We started with the kiddie rides.

Kaylee screamed like she was on a rocket ship.

Keth waved at everyone like he was in a parade.

Kade pretended he was too cool but secretly loved every second.

Then came the bumper cars.

Keifer rammed into my car so hard I almost flew out.

"KEIFER!" I yelled.

He grinned. "You said no fighting in public."

"That was the kids!"

"Same rule applies."

I rammed into him back.

The kids screamed like they were watching a WWE match.

We stopped for snacks.

Kade wanted popcorn.

Kaylee wanted cotton candy.

Keth wanted ice cream.

Keifer wanted all three.

I handed out the food like a tired lunch lady.

Then Keth dropped his ice cream.

He stared at the ground.

Then at me.

Then at the ground again.

"Mama… my ice cream died."

I sighed. "We'll get another one."

Keifer leaned in. "You're so soft."

I glared. "Say that again."

He kissed my cheek. "Soft."

I shoved him. "You're impossible."

He kissed me again — on the lips this time — quick, warm, and smug.

"EWWWWWW!" all three kids screamed in unison.

Later, we got in line for the Ferris wheel.

Kade tried to climb the railing.

Kaylee tried to feed a bird.

Keth tried to eat a rock.

I was losing my mind.

"KEIFER, CONTROL YOUR CHILDREN!"

He blinked. "Our children."

"YOUR GENES ARE THE PROBLEM!"

He laughed — actually laughed — while I was one meltdown away from throwing myself into the fountain.

"Jay," he said, stepping closer.

"No. Don't Jay me."

"Jay."

"I swear if you say one more—"

He cupped my face and kissed me.

Right there.

In line.

In front of everyone.

Soft.

Slow.

The kind of kiss that melts your anger like butter.

When he pulled back, he whispered, "Better?"

I hated how much it worked.

"…Yes," I muttered.

He smirked. "Told you."

I shoved him again, but he caught my hand and intertwined our fingers.

We all squeezed into one cabin.

Kaylee sat on Keifer's lap.

Keth sat on mine.

Kade sat between us like the responsible eldest child he believed he was.

As the wheel rose, the city spread out beneath us — lights, colors, the whole world glowing.

Keifer looked at me, eyes soft.

"Six years," he whispered. "And I still fall more in love with you every day."

I felt my chest tighten — the good kind.

"Even when I yell at you?" I asked.

"Especially then."

I rolled my eyes, but I leaned into him anyway.

The kids pointed at everything — the lights, the sky, the tiny people below.

And for a moment, everything felt perfect.

Messy.

Loud.

Exhausting.

But perfect.

By the time we got home, the kids were asleep, the house was quiet, and the world felt softer somehow.

Keifer carried the twins inside, one on each shoulder, their tiny hands curled into his shirt. I held Kade against my chest, his breath warm on my neck, his little fingers still gripping my sleeve even in sleep.

We tucked them in, kissed their foreheads, and stood there for a moment — just watching them breathe.

Keifer slid his hand into mine.

"They're growing fast," he whispered.

"Too fast," I murmured.

We walked back to our room, the hallway dim and peaceful. The kind of quiet that only comes after a long, perfect day.

I sat on the edge of the bed, kicking off my shoes. Keifer knelt in front of me, resting his head on my lap like he always did when he wanted me to slow down.

"You okay?" he asked softly.

I nodded, running my fingers through his hair. "Just… happy."

He smiled — that same smile he had when we were seventeen, when everything was new and terrifying and beautiful.

"Good," he whispered. "You deserve that."

We lay down together, his arm around my waist, my head on his chest. The house creaked softly, the kids murmured in their sleep, and the night settled around us like a warm blanket.

"Keifer?" I whispered.

"Mm?"

"Thank you. For everything."

He kissed the top of my head. "Always."

I closed my eyes, listening to his heartbeat — steady, familiar, home.

And in that quiet, with the man I loved and the family we built sleeping under the same roof, I felt it:

The ending.

Not sad.

Not heavy.

Just… full.

A chapter closing gently.

A life beginning fully.

A story that had grown with me, carried me, changed me — now settling into its final page.

Keifer's fingers intertwined with mine.

"We did good, Jay," he murmured.

I smiled into his chest.

"Yeah," I whispered. "We did."

And that was enough.
