Chapter 80 - Headless hat

The students of Gryffindor are a group of fearless individuals, and many of them wander around the castle late at night every year.

"And you?" George asked.

"What do you think?" Albert said irritably, tossing the towel he was using to dry his hair to George.

"By the way, why do you take another shower tonight?" George reached out and took the towel, then tossed it back to Albert.

"A morning shower makes you feel good, and a night shower helps you sleep well," Albert said matter-of-factly.

The three of them stared at him speechlessly, not wanting to argue about it, knowing that Albert could always come up with a bunch of plausible reasons when he was talking.

"Can you really sleep well?" Lee Jordan asked abruptly, and then he went to take a shower too.

Albert sat back on the bed, listening to the twins talk about the secret passage in the castle. He casually picked up his wand from the pillow and tapped the towel lying next to him.

The illusion spell took effect, and the towel seemed to have vanished from the bed.

Albert picked up the invisible towel, looked at it in front of him, and covered his hand with it. The covered part disappeared, but there was still a strange sense of incongruity overall.

Albert crumpled the towel into a ball and observed the effect of the Disillusionment Charm. At times, the incongruity became even more jarring.

"Your hand... how did you do that?" Fred stared at Albert's left hand under the towel, his eyes wide with astonishment.

"You mean this?" Albert handed Fred the towel he had cast the Disillusionment Charm on. "I put a Disillusionment Charm on the towel."

"Impressive." George also leaned over to examine it. "However, there are still some flaws."

"This is all we can do for now." Albert's Disappearance Charm has reached level 1, but the invisibility effect is still unsatisfactory. Any skilled wizard can easily spot the flaw. "Some wizards use this magic to create inferior invisibility cloaks."

"Invisibility Cloak?" Fred asked, puzzled. "I've heard of this thing, but why do you say it's of poor quality?"

Albert explained, "The invisibility effect of the cloak will gradually fade over time."

"Look, my hand is broken." Fred covered his hand with an invisible towel and winked at George. "You really can't tell unless you look closely."

"Wrap it around your head," Albert advised.

Fred and George exchanged glances, seemingly realizing something, and a malicious smile appeared on their lips.

The door was closed again, and the oil lamp in the room suddenly went out.

"What the hell are you guys doing? Why aren't the lights on in the dorm? Is everyone asleep?" Li Qiaodan, who had just finished showering, pushed open the wooden door of the dorm and found it pitch black inside. He couldn't help but frown and complain.

Suddenly, a light appeared in the darkness. Lee Jordan looked towards the source and saw one of the twins standing by the table, turning to look at him. The pale light from the tip of the wand moved up his body and finally rested on his shoulder.

Li Qiaodan had already seen it clearly: this person actually... actually didn't have a head.

"This…" Li Qiaodan's expression froze, and he stood there blankly.

To be honest, this scene looks quite terrifying, especially in the dark.

"Cough cough, stop fooling around, you've all scared him half to death!" Albert held back his laughter as he reached out and pulled the invisible towel off Fred's head, revealing his head.

"Is he alright?" George turned the lights back on, looking anxiously at Lee Jordan who was standing there in a daze, and gave his twin brother a reproachful look, as if it was all Fred's fault.

"I don't know, could he be scared out of his wits?" Fred reached out to touch Lee Jordan, but Albert stopped him.

After an unknown amount of time, Li Qiaodan was still in a daze, and an uneasy atmosphere quietly spread in the room.

"Hahaha!" Li Qiaodan suddenly burst into laughter, startling the three people in the room.

"Are you alright?" Fred asked tentatively.

"It's nothing." Lee Jordan winked at the three of them; his earlier reaction was clearly feigned. "But you guys really gave me a fright."

George said irritably, "We were the ones who were startled by you."

"Speaking of which, that scene just now was really terrifying." Lee Jordan took the invisible towel handed to him by Albert, looked at it in front of his eyes, and then asked as if he had thought of something, "Do you think if we scared Filch like that, he might faint."

"Probably not, after all, there are ghosts in the castle." Albert directly denied the possibility. People in the magical world have a much stronger ability to accept and understand the unknown than ordinary people.

If you were to disappear and walk around a crowded street late at night, you'd probably scare a lot of people and even make the headlines tomorrow.

"But seeing someone's head suddenly disappear is still pretty scary," Fred said. "Why doesn't Joko's comedy shop have anything like that?"

"Zoko is not young anymore, he's past the age of being quick-witted. Although he has the ability to turn ideas into comedic props, his inspiration has probably dried up," Albert casually explained. "If he didn't have that kind of inspiration, he naturally wouldn't be able to make the headless hat."

"Headless Hat," Fred said, his eyes lighting up. "That's a good name."

"Write this down, write this down." George hurriedly searched for a quill and parchment. "One day, we might be able to make our own headless hats."

"Before that, you'll probably have to learn some spells," Albert warned.

"Uh, what's going on?" Li Qiaodan noticed that the invisible towel was no longer invisible.

"The Disillusionment Charm on it is almost gone." Albert checked the Disillusionment Charm on the Invisibility Towel. This kind of thing could not, like Harry Potter's Invisibility Cloak, keep him invisible forever.

This thing is somewhat like optical camouflage.

"Disappeared so quickly?" Fred muttered.

Albert picked up the pocket watch from the pillow, glanced at the time, and said, "It lasted about half an hour."

"It lasted too short." George was a little disappointed.

"You haven't fully mastered it yet, how long do you expect it to last?" Albert couldn't help but roll his eyes. The duration of magic depends on the wizard who casts the spell.

Albert only had a basic grasp of the Disappearance Charm; Professor Flitwick, on the other hand, should have been able to create an invisibility cloak that lasted a long time.

Of course, truly skilled spell masters have no need to use invisibility cloaks; they can easily use spells to make themselves invisible, and ordinary wizards simply cannot detect their presence.
