Chapter 2 - Fishing

"Holy crap!"

Roy was shocked and speechless.

He then made several attempts and discovered that the game could not only be controlled by voice, but also can be commanded according to his thoughts.

Roy quickly checked the app store from where he downloaded the game again and found that the game that was originally listed there had disappeared.

This excited Roy.

This is like encountering a legendary cheat code!

But he quickly calmed down.

So what if I can control the game character with my mind? The game can't make me any money.

Thinking of this, Roy felt as if he had been poured with a bucket of cold water.

But then he thought of something else.

"Perhaps I can bring items from the game into reality?"

Roy stroked his chin.

Isn't that how it's written in those online novels?

With that thought in mind, the pixelated figure, under Roy's control, picked up the kitten beside him.

Materialize.

Roy silently recited a phrase in his mind.

"Meow!"

After a blurry, mosaic-like image appeared in the air, a small orange cat appeared beside Roy, meowed at him, and looked around with a puzzled look in its eyes.

It seemed somewhat puzzled as to how it had suddenly come here from the ship.

It can actually bring game items to life!

Roy excitedly pumped his fist; this was even more exciting than winning a multi-million dollar lottery.

After a while, he calmed down a bit and tried again. He finally discovered that only items in the game could be materialized and retrieved, while real-world items could not be sent into the game world.

In addition, the items that appear in the game are also linked to his last save file.

If you acquire an item, materialize it, and then revert to a previous save, the materialized item will disappear.

The last discovery was information about this small boat.

[Small boat (upgradeable)]

[Type: Equipment]

[Quality: White]

[Defense: 3]

[Durability: 10/10]

[Description: A simple little boat.]

After glancing at it, Roy focused his attention elsewhere, his eyes filled with eagerness when he looked back at the pixelated figure on his phone.

"There should be extraordinary powers in this game world too…"

Thinking about this, Roy became even more excited.

However, there are currently no missions or storylines in the game, making it seem quite openworld.

"Oh right, didn't Mother give you a pearl?"

With that in mind, Roy manipulated his game character to find the pearl.

[Your accumulated knowledge of occultism and your intuition tells you that this pearl is a good thing.]

After the pearl was taken out, a string of information appeared.

A moment later, Roy felt a weight in his hand, and there was a beautiful pearl the size of his palm.

"So big."

Roy's mind flashed back to the small amount of money he could get from selling the pearl.

But he quickly calmed down.

This pearl cannot be sold!

First, he was unsure whether the pearl would have any further use in the game.

Furthermore, the game information has already indicated that this pearl is not simple.

Secondly, since these are items that actually appear in the game, any potential magical phenomena or dangers could cause unnecessary trouble.

Roy is a person who hates trouble.

What would happen if an ordinary person gained superpowers?

Roy didn't know about the others, but his dream was to write novels, live a life of comfort, and occasionally treat himself to a nice meal.

If I were to talk about a grander dream, it would be to find my ideal girl, get married, have children, and then live a carefree life with no worries about a car, a house, or money.

An ordinary, unambitious dream.

"Never mind, I don't need the money right now."

Roy returned the pearl to the game.

He is an online novelist. Although his works are not very successful, he can make a living and even save a little money each month.

Although his parents and he were not wealthy, they were not particularly short of money either.

Therefore, Roy plans to wait until the time is right before thinking about making money.

"Oh right, I also have a fishing rod, let's go fishing first."

With a thought, Roy sat down by the side of the boat, took out a fishing rod, and cast the line into the sea.

Splash!!

Water splashed everywhere, the buoy floated up, and the sea surface regained its sparkling appearance.

A sea breeze blows, and seabirds sing from time to time.

On the azure sea, a small boat drifts, and a little orange cat curls up quietly, purring softly.

Peaceful and serene.

Roy, meanwhile, kept a close eye on the movement of the fishing rod.

There were no nautical charts, routes, or game maps on the ship; in other words, Roy had no idea where his next destination was.

All I can do now is fish.

Poof.

The buoy sank heavily.

Something has taken the bait!

Roy quickly controlled the pixelated figure to start retracting the rod.

The pixelated figure seemed confident, effortlessly laying and reeling in the line to exhaust Roy without needing any input, before easily lifting it up.

[You caught: 1 piece of driftwood.]

[Fishing skill experience increased; current level lv1.]

Roy's face immediately darkened.

What the heck?

He's clearly a fishing master, so why did he catch such trash?

Roy paused for a moment, then suddenly realized that his game character's fishing skill was only level one.

Perhaps it's because the level is too low?

Roy seemed to be deep in thought.

Talent is one thing, but level is the true measure of strength.

Then Roy checked the driftwood he had just fished up in his inventory.

I don't know if it's useful. If it's not, I'll throw it away to save space.

[Driftwood]

[Type: Material]

[Quality: White]

[Description: A piece of wood floating on the sea.]

It can be used as a material, so it seems to have some use.

By the way, can this little boat be upgraded? What materials are needed?

[Small boat → Wooden boat.]

[Upgrade Required: 15 planks, Craftsman lv1.]

Okay, it looks like there's no way to upgrade in the short term.

Roy can manage to gather the planks needed to upgrade the boat with some effort, but he can't learn the craftsmanship skill.

"I can only make a living by fishing now."

Roy was somewhat helpless.

Continue to control the little man to fish.

Despite the character's very low fishing skill level, it seems that due to the bonus from the Fishing Master skill, there are almost no instances of going home empty-handed.

However, most of what they caught were just trivial things.

[You caught: Driftwood x1.]

[You caught: Rotten Plank x1.]

[You caught: 1 sea fish.]

[You caught: 1 sea crab.]

[Fishing skill experience increased; current level lv2.]

[Fishing skill experience increased; current level lv3.]

[Your stamina is insufficient.]

After catching a real eel, the game character's stamina and hunger bars both reached zero, and it got dark.

The little man was panting slightly.

"Then let's eat and sleep."

Roy guided the little man back into the boathouse, where he took out the stored bread, water, and a small dried fish.

Click click click.

Upon hearing this voice, Roy couldn't hold back any longer.

Damn it, why does eating bread make the same sound as gnawing on meat?

"Meow~"

Upon receiving the dried fish, the little orange cat meowed with stars in its eyes.

"Alright, time to sleep."

The little man yawned and lay down inside the boat shed.

The little orange cat came to his side, curled up into a ball, and curled its tail up.

The game screen gradually darkened.

The next day, the sun rose again, and Roy saved a file.

"It's time for me to eat."

After glancing at the sky outside the window, Roy got out of bed, went downstairs and bought a can of iced cola, some braised meat, and fried chicken from nearby store.

"Today is worth celebrating."

Of course, Roy wouldn't admit that he was actually driven by cravings.
