Chapter 1 - Fifty year quest.

It should have been like any other day.

I meet up with my party and head to the guild for a quest.

However that day there was a ruckus going, this was a normal thing that happened all the time.

But this time it was more than usual.

"Hey, Leon."

When I heard my name being called I turned around to see who it was calling me.

It was shaie, he was a B rank adventure I knew.

Shaie had black hair and brown eyes, having black hair was uncommon around here.

He walked right up to me and my group and said.

"You won't believe it, A c rank quest jumped up all the way to S"

Quest ranks change more often than you can imagine but for a C rank quest to have been bumped up to an S rank was unheard of.

"What quest is it"

Asked Claire, she was the mage in my party, she had long blue hair and giant hat on her head.

"The farlands quest" replied Shaie

"Swear it on Qadlie" I said

"I swear" replied Shaie.

Me and my party rushed to board to see the quest.

We've only recently achieved the status of A rank adventures, if we do this quest we can reach our long dreams of achieving S rank.

"Leon we have to take this quest" Said Kabu while pointing at the quest flyer.

He was the tank of our group.

I looked at his furry hands, they were shaking.

Kabu was a beast man a goat one to be specific.

"We do" I replied, it was easier said than done.

An S rank quest isn't something to laugh at, unlike the other ranks an S rank has not ceiling of strength, an s rank is more of a symbol over anything else, a symbol of infinite strength.

I look around the crowd, not one single soul dared to rip that flyer off the wall and take it to the receptionist.

I reach for the flyer, but before I could grab someone says.

"Leon, you have to be absolute about this, if we go in with no resolve we will die. can you carry the burden of having to take responsibility for your entire party's life?"

The person who said that was dusk, he was a dwarf with brown long hair braided together.

He was the healer in our party.

He was right, I couldn't just go into this with no resolve, I had to gather my resolve and like a leader.

I sucked in my cheeks and smacked both sides of my cheeks.

Then I grabbed the flyer and went to the receptionist desk.

I slammed down the flyer on the receptionist desk.

I asked for more information about the quest, all she could tell me was that an old man came back from that quest after 26 years to talk to the guild master and she was told to send anyone willing to take the quest on to his office.

hearing that the four of us went to the guild masters office.

As we approached the door a man stood in our way.

He said "What are you here for?" we told him about what the receptionist told us and surprisingly he let us in.

As I opened the door I saw the guildmaster on the direct opposite side of the room.

As we walked in he said "Are you guys here for the S rank quest?"

"Yes" I replied.

"Come sit" he said in a melancholy voice.

The four of us sat across him on a couch, he was sitting on the opposite on another couch with a table in between us.

Before I could ask him about the quest he started talking.

"The quest has been going on for fifty years now as you know, it started off as a single curiosity as what lays at the end of this world, which is why it was a C rank quest. Many people usually head up the tower rather than fully exploring it. No one has ever seen the end of a world, except for the guy who took the quest before."

He suddenly stopped talking, I look side to side to see how my party is handling this information so far and all of them were doing the same thing I was.

No one has ever even bothered to go to the end of a world before.

Why should they be when they can simply go up and down the tower, the tower isn't a real tower but something that connects people to other worlds.

It has a clearing area, our ancestors started off with the first world which is now called floor one and then started going to different worlds slowly and slowly as they cleared the challenges presented to them by GOD.

After a while some stayed behind on the worlds instead of going higher up the tower, those people started villages which soon turned into cities then kingdoms.

Before anyone else could say anything, Dusk spoke up.

"Wouldn't odd Laguna be the end of the world? after all it has to be water at the end."

The guildmaster took a moment to take a small inhale of breath, then he replied.

"That's why it was originally ranked at C, be at as it may be the rewards were still great. However the last person to take the quest was a B ranked adventurer who after 26 years came back. I knew the man myself back then, however looking at him now I can no longer see the man I once knew. The Intel he told was that of a madman not to be trusted."

"Then why post up the quest and even go as far as bumping up the rank of it all the way to S rank." I asked

"This isn't a matter of the guild anymore, it's a matter of the kingdom. The things he told reached to the ears of the king, now he is sending personal knights of the kingdom to reach the end of the world." replied the guildmaster who was visibly shaking.

"What did this madman say?" asked Claire.

The guildmaster took a long sigh before speaking.

"He said it took him 25 years to reach the end and somehow 1 year to come back. He said at the end he met a cosmic being that offered him 3 options, everything so far I might have had a hard time being convinced but what the offers were what makes me certain he is a madman. The 3 options offered to him were to be granted a wish with no limits, see the world in its entirety, or to meet GOD"

I could feel sweat falling down my forehead, I look around I also see the others visibly shaken up by this revelation.

In this tower existed many gods, for example the god of trade and contracts Qadlie. The gods can be slain but strong legendary warriors or another god, when a god dies the highest ranking member of their church. however GOD is an exception to this, for GOD can't die and has always been and always will be, God was the one who created the tower and everyone's ancestors to climb it.

After the meeting me and my part walked out the room trembling in fear from the revelation.

We went back downstairs to the main part of the guild.

We found a table to sit on, and simply sat down without saying a word to each other.

"Scram you lunatic"

"STOP YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE ME"

The noises caught our attention.

The sounds were coming from the door of the guild, so we decided to check out what was going on.

"I SAID SCRAM YOU LUNATIC"

When I arrived there I couldn't understand what was happening.

"HEY, what are you doing to that man" I said

"This lunatic won't leave me alone" said the guy

on the ground kneeling and reaching out to the guy was a disheveled homeless man saying random nonsense such I saw the world and what not.

"ITS YOU" screamed out the old man

"YOUR THE GUY FROM THE ROOM, YOU HAVE TO TELL THEM THAT I'M NOT LYING"

The old guy was talking about things I couldn't understand.

"Slow down, what are you saying."

I asked

"We met in the room don't you remember?"

said the old man.

"What room?"

I replied.

"O GOD I TRULY HAVE GONE INSANE"

suddenly the old man saw the flyer in my hands.

"You"re doing the far lands quest? I can help you, I was there in the farlands."

Then I remember what the guild master had said before.

"Are you the one who did the quest 26 years ago?"

I asked.

"YES YES IT WAS ME."

Said the old man

"Can you tell us everything about the farlands, please."

I begged.

"The farlands is an issue, it's who you meet on the way there."

Said the old man.

Before adding "There is one friend you will meet there, odd Laguna. No matter what you do don't mess with odd Laguna. And if you're humble enough odd Laguna might help you. Aside from that there is nothing much to the quest it all depends on you, however make sure you pack an emergency ration worth 1 month, DO NOT EAT THE RATION UNTIL YOU HAVE NOT HAD FOOD IN 1 WEEK."

The last part stood out to us.

"Mind elaborating?" Asked Kabu

"There will be a time where you won't have anything to hunt for food for an entire month, no grass grows in that spot of the world and everything around just dies."

"Thanks for the warning but we don't need to save, I can easily give us a month's worth of nutrition and energy using my healing spells." replied Dusk

This quest honestly didn't sound hard whatsoever.

"I think we should get going now, the king has already sent his knights a day ago we don't want to lose this race." said Claire.

She was right, we had 3 weeks worth of food stored up already since we were planning on going on an A rank quest anyways.

"You're right, let's go." I said
