Chapter 5 - Leader

As dawn breaks, Kenny and Maggie silently leave the warehouse.

They move quickly and quietly through the streets.

Two hours later, they reach the distribution center. It's a massive building, its walls riddled with bullet holes. The entrance is blocked by the dead.

"Stay close,"

Maggie draws her knife.

Together, they head toward the crowd.

Kenny stops, taking in the horde of the dead blocking the entrance. Suddenly, a plan strikes him.

He turns to Maggie.

"I have an idea, but it'll be too loud."

"OH..!! , the cars!!! ."

"If i can make it work and push it into the horde, it might clear the way for us."

"Okay, go for it. But be careful."

He sneaks toward a car. He takes out his knife and starts tinkering with the wires under the steering wheel.

Suddenly, the engine roars to life. The zombies turn toward the sound.

Kenny sits in the car, locates the horn wire, and twists the ends together. The horn blasts loudly.

The dead rush toward the sound. Kenny waits until they are directly in front of him before pressing the accelerator.

The car speeds forward, slicing through the horde. The dead fly through the air like rag dolls.

Kenny pulls over, targeting a nearby alley. The zombies follow.

Kenny heads deeper into the narrow street. The horde follows.

Finally, when he's sure he's lured most of them away from the entrance to the distribution center, Kenny stops the car. He jumps out and grabs his bag from the seat.

He rushes back to Maggie.

"We need to move,"

They hurry toward the distribution center. The entrance is now clear.

Kenny pushes open the door.

Piles of boxes and pallets.

Kenny moves quickly through the warehouse. He reaches the back door and opens it. A large yard is filled with trucks and cars.

His eyes are drawn to a heavy-looking truck parked near the entrance. It's old and rusty, but it still seems to work.

"Maggie, here. I found a truck."

"Do you think it'll work?"

Kenny approaches the truck.

"There's only one way to know,"

Kenny looks around and spots a rock nearby. He picks it up, breaks the window, reaches out, and unlocks the door.

" get in!"

Maggie climbs in.

Kenny wires it, and moments later, it starts working.

"It's working,"

Kenny drives the truck back to the warehouse entrance.

He parks the truck next to the pallets and jumps out. Together, he and Maggie begin loading the truck as much as they can.

Suddenly, there's a loud crash. Zombies have entered the building, drawn by the noise.

"Maggie, we're not alone ."

Kenny and Maggie work faster, loading the last of the supplies into the truck. The sounds of approaching zombies grow louder.

"Done!"

Maggie slams the back door shut.

Kenny starts the truck and drives through the horde. Bodies are crushed under the wheels.

Meanwhile, back in the warehouse bunker, the rest begin to wake.

Tom notices that Kenny and Maggie are missing.

He turns to David, who has just stepped out of the clinic.

"Have you seen Kenny or Maggie?"

"No."

"okay... I'm going to check the area ."

He grabs his tools and goes outside. Above him are the warehouse walls, riddled with bullet holes.

Tom begins to examine the area, stopping at a section where the fence has been breached, revealing a large gap.

He inspects the slashed metal and cracked wood. The dead didn't do this; someone did it on purpose.

Suddenly, he hears the sound of an engine in the distance, followed by screams and gunshots. Tom lunges forward, his eyes widening as he sees Kenny and Maggie heading toward the warehouse in a truck .

Kenny parks the truck next to Tom and jumps out of the seat.

"We did it!"

Maggie emerges from the other side.

"There was a herd of dead, but Kenny lured them away. It was crazy, but it worked."

Tom turns to Kenny quickly.

"you Did what?"

"We did it . It was a little dangerous, but we got the good stuff... All of it."

At that moment, the rest of the group emerged from the warehouse, drawn by the commotion. Their faces lit up when they saw the truck full.

"Food?"

David asked, looking down at the back of the truck.

"Yeah , enough for months."

Sarah hugged Maggie tightly.

"I can't believe you did that."

As they began unloading the truck, Tom pulled Kenny aside.

"Kenny, I want to thank you for what you did today. You risked your life to bring us these supplies, to keep us alive."

"I did what I had to do ,"

"No, it was more than that, which is why I want to suggest something to you."

Kenny looked at him curiously.

"What is it?"

"I want you to lead this group."
