Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: First Meeting with My Brother-in-Law

When Nawaki heard the strange ninja say he wanted to guide him, he stopped and glanced over.

Not everyone had the qualifications to teach him. Tsunade was his sister, Orochimaru was his teacher, and he was also curious to see just how capable this Hatake ninja really was.

"This is Jonin Hatake Kawakaede, and he's also a good friend of mine."

Tsunade took the initiative to introduce him to her younger brother, fully aware of the little thoughts Nawaki had in mind.

"Hatake Sakumo is no match for him."

In her own words, she used poor Sakumo as a background prop to highlight Kawakaede's strength — and Kawakaede truly was formidable.

Hearing his sister speak that way, Nawaki's eyes lit up, and an honest, sunny smile appeared on his face.

"And he's also Shanfeng-nii."

A clever brother-in-law indeed. Kawakaede slowly walked toward Nawaki, giving the boy some face.

It wasn't that his big brother was weak — he himself was simply too strong.

"I was just sparring with my brother."

"It seems your taijutsu is average. I wonder how your ninjutsu is?"

Kawakaede had no intention of giving this kid any face. Things were already bad enough. If he wanted to keep him alive in the future, he couldn't afford to go easy.

The moment he finished speaking, he appeared right in front of Nawaki. Tsunade's eyes lit up — that speed was fast.

Nawaki stared at Kawakaede, who had suddenly appeared before him, towering over him, exuding a pressure he'd never felt.

It was completely different from the gloomy heaviness Orochimaru gave off. Kawakaede radiated a scorching, thunderous intensity that sent Nawaki's heart pounding wildly.

All the frustration he'd built up dissipated. His expression grew serious.

"I hope Shanfeng-nii will give me some guidance."

Nawaki bowed respectfully, and Kawakaede accepted it as naturally as breathing.

"Use everything you've got. If you can make me move, you win."

Kawakaede didn't even reach for his eight-sided Han sword. He simply crossed his arms and looked at Nawaki with a mischievous smile.

Seeing how arrogant Kawakaede was, Tsunade realized that a ninja's strength wasn't only in their fists.

"Kawakaede-kun…"

Her voice drifted over, but Kawakaede waved her off casually.

"No need to worry."

She hadn't even finished speaking before being cut off. All she could do was silently watch, hoping her medical skills wouldn't be needed.

"Kawakaede-nii, I won't hold back then."

What young man wasn't proud? Being looked down on like this, Nawaki was irritated. He never expected that he wouldn't even be able to force Kawakaede to take a single step.

But reality often defies expectations. There is always someone better.

"Water Style: Water Dragon Bullet!"

Nawaki formed the seals and spat out a water dragon. But with his limited chakra, the dragon looked more like a small snake compared to the massive beasts his granduncle Tobirama used.

Kawakaede's expression didn't change. That warm smile remained.

Before he even moved, lightning flashed over his body — and the little water dragon evaporated instantly on contact.

"Lightning Armor?"

Tsunade frowned, recalling the Cloud Village's secret technique.

This was Kawakaede's personal method of using Lightning Release chakra to stimulate cell activity, increasing both offense and defense — similar to Lightning Armor. But because lightning chakra was too violent, even he couldn't maintain it long without his golden finger.

Seeing his strongest ninjutsu fail entirely, Nawaki grit his teeth and continued forming hand seals.

"Earth Style: Earth Dragon Bullet!"

An earth dragon burst from the ground beside him, opening its mouth and spitting a clump of earth at Kawakaede.

Kawakaede dispelled the lightning around him, drew his eight-sided Han sword with a graceful, noble movement, and cut the earth bullets cleanly in half, sending them falling neatly to the side.

Tsunade stared blankly at Kawakaede — standing there with a sword, silver hair swaying in the breeze — and found herself momentarily stunned.

He had not only shocked Nawaki but also found the perfect chance to show off in front of Tsunade — killing two birds with one stone.

"Kawakaede-nii, I want to become your student and learn swordsmanship!"

Nawaki's eyes sparkled. The sword looked incredibly cool. His best ninjutsu were useless, and he wasn't planning to continue the fight.

"Learning swordsmanship is fine — if you agree to one small condition."

Kawakaede sheathed his sword, walked up to Nawaki, and his smile turned sly.

Brother-in-law's strategic plan had begun.

"Eh? What condition?"

To Nawaki, the handsome older brother suddenly looked suspiciously scheming.

Tsunade stood still, watching the two.

"I'll teach you swordsmanship… and you help me pursue your sister."

Kawakaede was a straightforward man. No beating around the bush. He bent down and whispered, leaving Nawaki speechless.

Are all adults this direct?!

"How am I supposed to help?"

Nawaki didn't think his sister was pretty or strong, and he didn't understand why anyone would want to date a woman who hit so hard.

Sure, she had lighter skin, a better figure, and some money, but what else?

He sneaked a glance at Tsunade, shuddered, and vowed he'd never like a woman like his sister.

You're too young… too naive!

"As long as you're willing, the Hatake estate doors will always be open for you when we need you."

"And I'll give you a sword."

Kawakaede understood boys well — every boy dreamed of becoming a warrior.

"I want that!"

If Nawaki hesitated even one more second, that would be an insult to all warrior dreams.

"Deal!"

Kawakaede proudly patted Nawaki's shoulder — almost knocking him over — saying the kid had a bright future.

"How much chakra have you got left?"

Even after finishing the important part, Kawakaede didn't forget the details.

"Enough for a few more jutsu, but they're useless against you, big bro."

Nawaki answered innocently, even skipping "Kawakaede" and going straight to "big bro."

"At your age, your chakra amount is really good. But your seal speed is slow. Your taijutsu lacks power, and your ninjutsu doesn't hit hard enough."

"Remember — there are no useless jutsu, only useless ninja."

Kawakaede listed Nawaki's flaws and gave stern warnings.

This kid truly had the qualities of a Senju heir. His chakra far surpassed his peers.

Tsunade either refused to train him properly, or Orochimaru's teaching methods were questionable.

Such a talented child was still only at genin level — far behind his future nephew Kakashi.

By age twelve, Kakashi would already have jonin-level skill, only slightly weaker than him.

"Then I'll leave it to you, big brother. I'll do my best."

"My teacher is always busy and hasn't taught me for a long time."

"I'll come to your house tomorrow."

"And bring your sister along."

You had to admit, the kid learned fast. He even picked up the art of quick replies.

"Good, good!"

Kawakaede grinned and slapped Nawaki's shoulder again, nearly knocking him flat.

Tsunade watched the two laughing together. It seemed Nawaki genuinely liked Kawakaede.

"Kawakaede-kun, what do you like to eat? I'll have the kitchen prepare it."

Tsunade finally relaxed and approached to ask, planning to prepare his favorite dishes.

"Just bring me that drink. I'm not picky."

Kawakaede meant it. He could barely stomach Japanese food, but the sake was tolerable.

"All right, I'll head to the kitchen. Please forgive me if anything isn't to your liking."

Tsunade carried herself with refined grace — nothing like the monstrous strength she was known for.

"You go ahead. I'll practice with big bro a bit more."

Seeing his sister about to ramble endlessly, Nawaki quickly cut her off, hoping she would disappear.

"Lunch time!"
