Chapter 17 - The Sheep Islands

As I climbed onto the ship, I only then realized that something about it was a little strange. It had neither a mast nor any oars to propel it forward.

"How do you steer this thing, Fenrir?" I asked, looking down from the massive ship directly toward him.

"Go to the steering wheel," he simply said, as he gave the woman some food. The village also seemed to be slowly calming down again. The children came outside and watched me closely, but they were also afraid. All the huge Vikings were gone. Could they have been another ability of his? Whatever. I wanted to leave this place for now.

I walked over to the steering wheel and looked at it. It was made of glass, which didn't fit the rest of the ship at all. I also noticed that I could push it forward and backward. I gently pushed the wheel forward, and the entire ship started moving. I was startled and almost fell over, but I managed to stay on my feet at the last moment.

"Thank you, Fenrir! Take good care of this land, okay?" I said, waving and smiling at him. He smiled and waved back. For some reason, I trusted him. He hadn't killed me, even though he could have.

I spent an entire day sailing across the sea, looking for land.

"I really need a map," I said to myself. The sky was once again nearing dusk, but the ship had plenty of places to sleep. I made my way to one of the beds and lay down.

Who am I, anyway? I thought about that the entire time. I had no name, no origin, and I didn't even look like the other humans. So I was a god. A god like Fenrir. And like many others who apparently existed. The word "god" was something special to me, and not something that should simply be thrown around. However, reality seemed to be different. Gods walked among humans and exploited them. What a beautiful world. The more I thought about it, the more tired I became. Eventually, my eyes closed, and I fell into a very deep sleep.

BOOM!

I woke up. What was going on? What was that sound? I hurried onto the ship's deck to see what was happening. I had reached land. But it was still almost night? Apparently, I had slept for an entire day and had finally arrived at an island chain. Everything I saw was something new to my eyes. Lush grass grew everywhere, and there were many sheep and cows grazing. In the distance, I saw what looked like a castle, and I jumped off the boat to go there. I heard the cawing of a raven as I walked toward the castle.

Some time later, I arrived. It was a massive castle with an equally massive gate. I knocked on it and heard someone speaking to me from inside.

"Who are you?" he shouted, since otherwise I wouldn't have been able to hear him.

"A traveler. I mean you no harm. I just want to, uh... travel." Travel? What was I even saying? The same word twice? I really needed to work on my social skills. I guess that's what happens when you spend all your time talking only to yourself.

"Do you have any weapons with you?" the man asked, once again at a very high volume.

"Yes, but they are a part of me. I can't put them away. I honestly don't want to hurt you."

It became quiet. As if the guard were thinking.

"Alright, but don't get any stupid ideas," he said.

I expected the massive gate to open, but instead, a small door opened inward in the middle of the gate, exactly where I was standing, allowing me to look inside. Everything was decorated with lanterns, and the night felt alive. People were walking around a huge marketplace, looking at the various stalls. The castle was completely alive.
