Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Screwed and Damned

Drew snarled, sick of the supernatural side; it hadn't even been a week, and he was already too stressed because of it.

He turned to Xeanoz.

"Now what, what the fuck else is going on?"

"And how the hell are we supposed to deal with it?"

He growled, prompting Xeanoz to take her eyes off the thing and turn to Drew.

"You run, and I fight, that's how we'll deal with this."

Drew stared, dumbfounded. He had no idea why she was willing to fight again, especially after the last time.

"Y-you sure?... Xeanoz, I don't think you should take that thing head-on..."

"I know I'm not one to judge right now, but that thing doesn't look like an alien to me, more like a demon..."

"But I've heard a lot of folklore and religions, and honestly, I don't think I've ever seen one that looks like... that."

He stared back at it as he tried to figure out what it could be. The most realistic was that it was a demon from Christian mythology.

It wasn't the most far-fetched thing, since he now knew aliens with superpowers were real.

"No... hell no. Those demons have got wings. But whatever the fuck this thing is, it's here for him."

Drew thought as he glanced at the [presumably] passed-out Sam.

It was hard to tell from the blood dripping, his lowered head, and hair covering his face

Xeanoz took a stride ahead.

"I am sure, just listen to me and run."

Just as she took her second step.

The demon-like creature was gone.

However, in that same instant, it reappeared, sizing up Xeanoz.

It was much taller than her. but she stood unfazed, looking up at its eyes.

They stood staring at one another for a minute.

CRASH

Xeanoz side-eyed the destruction she caused, using the air [which was altered into fire] to send the demon-like creature into one of the car park pillars.

However, when the smoke cleared.

It disappeared.

Before speed blitzing behind Xeanoz and throwing a right hook to her head, which she effectively managed to dodge by sidestepping to the left.

"There's no one else around here anymore."

"So, no reason to let a little more loose."

She raised her arms and threw them in front of her into an X-shape, which immediately created a massive gust of air and fire across the hallway.

She then followed it up by increasing the density of the fire, shifting it into bullets with amplified speed by the air's pressure.

Which pierced the demon-like creature's skin, yet it persisted.

Rushing through the damage, the debris, and the assault.

Allowing it to enter close quarters with Xeanoz.

It then threw a quick jab to her face.

Which it faked. Catching her off guard and throwing a quicker one to her stomach.

She managed to lower her palms in time, but it was also a dummy.

And finally, it threw a clean right hook straight to her face.

She stumbled to the left, and it then aligned its third leg, and as she practically leaned into the attack, it kicked her directly at her ribs.

Xeanoz was flown backwards, as her back slammed into the pillar behind her, but she kept her stance up and focused solely on it.

She scoffed as the demon-like creature charged at her again, she blocked its left-handed jabs, before elbowing it in the neck.

She looked at the ground and stomped her foot, causing an immense echo, and as the demon-like creature reeled its arm back for another attack.

A blue stream-like pillar of fire emerged from below, sending it into the sky.

Xeanoz placed her hands in her hoodie pocket and stared at the hole she created.

"I...shouldn't have gotten so caught up in the moment, I guess...no. This thing is strong. Way too strong for an average attack. I need to hit it with some larger ones or I'll surely die this time."

However, as she was about to fly up, she realised something else and turned to where Sam was.

Drew, on the other hand, had just managed to make it out of the car park, and he then looked up into the sky, as he saw the massive blue stream of fire, and muttered.

"That's damn well not discreet, you lying bitch."

As he ran off, there was a massive vibration that caused him to look back, and his eyes darkened.

And when he did, he saw Sam in his mech suit.

Who just made a 5-story jump using his mechanical arms as a landing.

He looked Drew in the eyes and yelled with rage and spite.

"YOU THINK YOU'RE GONNA GET AWAY WITH THAT?! I'M GONNA KILL YOU!!!"

Drew sprinted, swearing to himself, whilst Sam charged like a madman, reactivating his gauntlet's four remaining claws.

"Ohhhh, run, go on. I'll give you a head start, you pussy!"

Immediately after his words, he slammed his right gauntlet into the ground, causing a shockwave and simultaneously propelling himself into the air, positioning to land near or on top of Drew.

Who. Took quick notice, and slid into a park nearby, cursing himself for letting his losing his temper earlier, and gripping his head before hiding behind a bush and trees.

"How do I get out of here. Without Xeanoz."

"God, I need your help, God."

"I...I can't do this shit."

His arm pain started to returned, and he held his mouth closed with his left hand, hoped not to make a sound.

As Sam arrived, he rummaged through the park looking for Drew.

"You're so stupid! You think it's smart to hide here?!"

"I don't care what happens, I'll kill you!."

With that, he pulled one of the rods out from his gauntlet, threw it into a pile of leaves, then the bush immediately began to catch fire.

Drew stayed in his spot but couldn't help but get the feeling that he truly might die here.

"Why did I get caught up in this mess?", "Why do I have to be so weak?", "I should've just let Xeanoz kill me.", "Why has this been nothing but painful?"

He retracted his thoughts, "nothing but painful." He stopped himself, lowering his hand, and reflecting on his own words.

He looked up at the sky.

Drew said those words again, "Nothing but painful." as he thought of the last two days of what he's been through.

Recalling his loss at school, his paralysis, losing to Xeanoz and bleeding on his dad's car, his arm getting broken by Sam, how he lashed out, and other things in his life would come to mind.

"This is the easiest my life can be right now...isn't it?"

He nodded his head as if answered his own question and sighed.

"I wish I could die."

Those subtle words were heard.

Not by some saviour.

But by his exorcist.

Sam rapidly made a move to the bushes.

But he then thought.

"But that's how I'll stay behind forever."

"Isn't it."

***

Xeanoz used the air to float up to the top of the car park, and she looked up, noticing that the demon-like creature had disappeared into thin air and that Sam was nowhere to be seen.

"Shit."

And her distraction almost cost her dearly.

As the demon-like creature exponentially descended towards her from the air, throwing chunks of debris that it picked up while being blasted into the air.

She was slightly surprised by its attack strategy, but didn't show any signs of worry or concern.

She dodged multiple, but was grazed and hit by a few, which caused her to lose balance.

Then the demon-like creature through another rock straight to the back of her neck.

"GUH!"

She grasped her neck as she fell.

Straight towards the hole.

Fortunately.

Xeanoz managed to twist her body over and fall right next to it.

Realising this was much different compared to fighting Sam, she stood back up and sent flames to the sky, shielding herself with a massive barrage of raw blue flames.

Suddenly.

She dropped to the floor.

Pressing one knee to the floor, and grasped her hoodie while panting harshly.

"I used way too much Soul Vapour in the last two days. I haven't even let it replenish..."

"I can't believe this, but I'll have to use my Tome again."

"Great."

"One wrong move and it will happen."

She forced herself back up, and her sclera shifted to black, her pupils to blue, and her eyelashes to a bright cyan.

Xeanoz then began to densen the fire barrage together into a massive X.

She furthered the densing of it as it became an X-shaped platform.

Xeanoz then stomps the ground with her leg, and propelled upwards, turning nearby rocks from the floor into air, and simultaneously creating another fire pillar.

The demon-like creature landed on the X, moving quickly around it to avoid the fire spreading from its sandals to its body.

"Smart." Xeanoz uttered, as she hovered just slightly above the fiery X.

The demon-like creature stared at her.

And out of nowhere, it spoke.

"I've never met a damn thing alive like you, young girl, you're a lot more impressive than the boy with the shattered arm, but you're still a fucking nuisance."

It proclaimed, however, it was its collar that spoke for it, with the slight chattering of teeth being heard behind each word.

She was stunned as she responded.

"I had no idea you could talk."

It didn't change or soften its expression but halted itself to stand a metre away from Xeanoz.

"I wouldn't take any offence."

It started kicking its legs one by one, to avoid the fire from spreading

She kept her guard up, responding once again.

"If you should know, Drew can't do much. But you should get your cybernetic freak off our backs."

It got into a fighting stance, evidently not on the same opinion as her.

"He's as much of a nuisance as you, but we see eye-to-eye on one factor that makes me not want to kill him, and personally, if I'd had the chance, I'd offer you a place in our ranks."

"But I was ordered to kill you, the boy, and anyone else who may have seen what had happened."

Her glare intensified, her fingers and hands moving upwards and forwards as if drawing or painting, as they moved, blue flames followed, each hand movement like a brush on a canvas.

The reality was her page, and her fingers were the brushes.

And as Xeanoz finished, she created a much more detailed, denser, and profound version of her spear, gripping it with perfect balance, she positioned herself to fight the demonic being.

"I could let you try and kill me."

"Or I can help you kill yourself."
