Chapter 111 - The Teacher’s Paradox

Chapter — The Teacher's Paradox

The hospital room was a pocket of unnatural cold. **Luke** sat on the edge of the bed, his shadow stretching long and jagged across the floorboards under the influence of **Koru's** dark presence. **Auru** lay in a deep, magically induced slumber nearby, her soft light flickering like a dying candle.

"Are you ready for the reality, Luke?" Koru asked again.

Luke took a steadying breath, his hands clenched in the hospital sheets. "I think I am. But first... Auru is sleeping because of this, isn't she? You didn't want her to hear."

"Sorry, Luke," Koru said, his voice a low, gravelly vibration. "This is a conversation for the shadows. Your positive aura—that little fairy—isn't built to process the kind of betrayal we are about to uncover."

"It's okay," Luke whispered. "But I need to know. I've spent the last week tracking every Master across the globe. I've watched their routines, scanned their spirits, and I found nothing. Everyone is... normal. Too normal. I need to know who the Devino is hiding in so I can prepare."

Koru drifted closer, his obsidian eyes reflecting Luke's own fear. "So you want me to give you the name? Just like that?"

"No," Luke replied, his voice hardening. "Just give me a hint. A direction. I need to find the crack in the mask."

Koru took a deep, theatrical breath. "Have you truly used Aura Purification on *every* Master, Luke? Think back. Think of every scan, every check, every moment of 'security' the Council has provided."

Luke closed his eyes, his mental processor whirring at high speed. He visualized the global map. He had checked Mizu in India, the Masters in Russia, Egypt, Brazil, and Pakistan. He had seen the records of the Council's internal sweeps.

"All the Auramasters are scanned," Luke muttered. "They all used the purification on each other months ago. No one showed a trace of devil energy."

"Is that so?" Koru's voice was a taunt. "Think harder, Luke. Think about the people you *don't* look at because they are the ones looking at you."

The realization hit Luke like a physical blow. His facial expression twisted into a mask of pure terror. The air in the room seemed to vanish.

"Is it... is it even possible?" Luke gasped.

"You're finally thinking in the right direction," Koru hummed. "The Devil doesn't hide in the flock. He hides in the shepherd."

"So there are two of them," Luke whispered, his blood turning to ice. "The scans... they never happened for *them*."

He stood up, his resolve snapping into place. "Thank you, Koru. I know what I have to do. Wake Auru up. We're going."

Auru woke with a start, rubbing her eyes. "Luke? What happened? Why was I dreaming of a silent forest?"

"There's no time, Auru," Luke said, his voice dropping into the cold frequency of **Auron**. "We have to go. Now."

He **Unified** in a burst of silver-indigo light. Auru sensed the shift immediately—this wasn't the frantic Auron who had been purification-sweeping the streets. This was a Hunter.

He didn't go to the main Council chambers. Instead, he sought out **Celine**. He found her in the tactical archives, her eyes widening as the Unique Auramaster manifested in front of her. She stepped back, her hand moving instinctively toward her comm-link.

"Auron! You're awake... we didn't expect you to recover so soon after the anesthetic," she said, her voice cautious.

"Don't worry, Celine," Auron said, his voice calm. "I'm not here to sweep the halls again. I've found my focus. But I need something from you. I need you to gather all the Auramasters .Right now. In the Great Hall."

Celine blinked. "But... wouldn't it be faster to ask Evelyn or Kaizen to issue the summons? They are the heads of Global Incharge."

"That is exactly why I am asking *you*," Auron said, his visor shimmering. "I need this to be a direct summons from the tactical wing. Can you do it?"

Celine studied him for a long moment. She saw the clarity in his indigo aura, the missing piece of the puzzle finally found. "I don't know what you're planning, Auron... but I think I see the man we've been missing. I'll do it."

Within two hours, the Great Hall of the Global Council was filled with the most powerful people on Earth. Mizu was there, still smelling of the salt air; the Masters of Egypt and Russia stood in the corners; and **Zoya** was right at the front, her eyes practically turning into hearts as she watched Auron stand on the podium.

*"He looks so cool when he's serious!"* Zoya whispered loudly to a confused Mizu.

Auron flinched behind his mask. *If only she knew the stakes,* he thought.

"Listen to me!" Auron's voice boomed, silencing the room. "We are facing a threat that goes beyond the Nodes. We have three left, but one of them is the architect—the **Devino**. He is a Devil who has already captured our friends and turned them into puppets. And he is here. He is in the midst of us."

The room erupted in whispers. "In the midst of us? But we've all been purified!" a Master shouted.

Suddenly, the heavy mahogany doors at the back of the hall slammed open.

"What is the meaning of this?!" **Kaizen** roared, his footsteps echoing like thunder as he marched down the center aisle. **Evelyn** followed close behind him, her face pale and worried. "Auron! You are conducting a high-level meeting without my authorization? I am the Head of Global Incharge!"

Evelyn hurried to the podium. "Auron, please, you aren't well! We can talk about this peacefully. Why have you gathered everyone like this?"

The other Auramasters watched the confrontation with bated breath. The tension in the room was a physical weight.

Auron narrowed his eyes, his indigo aura flaring to its maximum output. "I've gathered everyone because the truth cannot hide in a crowd anymore."

"You're talking about the 'midst of us' again," Kaizen sneered, standing at the base of the podium. "We've all been scanned, boy. Every person in this room has passed the purification tests."

"Are you sure about that, Evelyn?" Auron asked, his voice dropping to a deadly whisper. "Have I ever used Aura Purification on you? Or on Kaizen?"

Evelyn faltered. "Well... no, but—"

"Think back to the training sessions," Auron continued, stepping down from the podium to face his teachers. "You taught me the technique evelyn during battling with Kael. You and Kaizen demonstrated it on me too st that day. And then, you both performed it on the other Masters to prove their loyalty. But did you ever perform it on each other? Did any of the other Masters ever dare to point their finger at the two leaders of the Council?"

Auron's staff struck the floor with a resonance that shook the building.

"We never point our fingers at our teachers," Auron said, his voice thick with the pain of the realization. "We assumed your purity because of your rank. But the Devino knew that. He knew that the only place a Devil could truly be safe was in the skin of the people we trust the most."

He raised his gloved hand, the silver light of purification beginning to swirl around his fingers like a miniature storm.

"So, from you two... one is the real Devino. And I'm going to find out which one it is right now."

The silence that followed was absolute. Kaizen's hand moved slowly toward his own weapon, while Evelyn looked at Auron with a heartbreak so deep it felt like the world was ending. The hunt was over; the war had officially come home.

**Who will the purification reveal as the Devino?**
