Kaguya bowed deeply, her poise impeccable, but when she looked up, her small face was flushed red, and her ponytail swayed with a joyful bounce: "Thank you so much for today, Ten-kun." Her voice was still slightly breathless from the roller coaster's after-effects, and her eyes were strikingly bright. "I truly look forward to another day of fun with you."
Yukino stood quietly to the side, having reverted to her usual cool demeanor, her hands neatly folded over her lower abdomen. But the lingering excitement in her icy blue eyes and the unvanished blush on her cheeks silently spoke of her equally pleasant mood.
Chen Tian looked at the two starkly contrasting Young Ladies before him, the corners of his mouth curving into a natural smile. He didn't offer any polite clichés. He simply reached out and naturally ruffled Kaguya's lively high ponytail: "Good." He agreed readily, then added, "Next time, let's go for a picnic."
Kaguya's eyes brightened even more: "A picnic?"
"Mhm, a picnic." Chen Tian withdrew his hand, his gaze sweeping over Yukino, who appeared calm on the surface. "If you're free, Yukino, you can come too."
Yukino's eyelids lowered, her long lashes fluttering. She neither nodded nor refused, merely giving a soft "Mhm."
The smile on Chen Tian's lips deepened.
He hadn't expected this—when the roller coaster plunged down the first steep drop, Kaguya's meticulously styled ponytail instantly became wind-swept. The usually elegant "Shinomiya Young Lady" actually clung tightly to his arm, her scream mixed with giggles: "I'm going to fall out! Ten-kun!"
As for Yukino—the honor student who always judged amusement park rides as 'childish'—she had clenched his hand tightly the moment the roller coaster started.
During the 360-degree loop, he clearly felt those cool little hands suddenly squeeze with force, her fingernails nearly digging into his palm.
The most absurd part was after they got off—Kaguya was still immersed in excitement and hadn't let go of his hand, while Yukino maintained their interlocked finger position as if frozen.
Chen Tian looked at Yukino's feigned composure and couldn't help but ruffle her head as well. Her hair was surprisingly soft, carrying the faint scent of shampoo.
"There now, Yukino," he intentionally adopted her usual serious tone. "How about I take you to see that little calico cat next time?"
Yukino slightly pouted, but the corner of her mouth uncontrollably tilted up a bit.
She gently nodded, a trace of warmth flashing in her icy blue eyes.
The scene made Chen Tian recall the first time he had seen Yukino in high school—the rumored "Ice Princess" was crouching on the way home from school, using her palm to feed bread to a dirty little calico cat.
The sunlight filtered through the leaves, dappling her. She was smiling so tenderly, completely different from her cold, untouchable demeanor at school.
"Meow~" The little calico cat rubbed against Yukino's fingers.
"You like cats too?" Chen Tian hadn't been able to stop himself from striking up a conversation then.
Yukino instantly looked up, startled like a frightened rabbit, and immediately reverted to her usual unapproachable expression.
However, her flushed ear tips and the panicked gesture of pulling the milk carton away had already exposed the true nature of this "high-mountain flower."
Since then, Chen Tian had frequently "coincidentally" run into Yukino feeding the cat.
Gradually, the two went from nodding acquaintances to a relationship where they could pet the cat together.
Although Yukino always claimed she was "just passing by," Chen Tian knew she deliberately rerouted every Wednesday to feed that little calico cat.
"Hey, what are you spacing out about?" Yukino's voice pulled Chen Tian back to reality. She was looking at him with a look of distaste, but the corners of her eyes still held the residual softness from before.
Kaguya curiously leaned closer: "What little calico cat?"
"It's a secret." Chen Tian winked at Yukino, earning a helpless eye-roll in return.
He suddenly felt that his role as a 'playboy' was quite worthwhile—at least he could get these proud Young Ladies to show their most genuine selves.
Although Marin might tease him later for "flirting everywhere again," who cared?
"Let's go." Chen Tian waved his hand, turning and walking away decisively.
The sun cast his shadow long, stretching it out across the campus tree-lined path, gradually moving away.
He glanced at his phone. Marin had already sent three messages:
[Ten-kun, where are you?]
[I checked, that 4S dealership has a special event today]
[(.o﹏o) Hurry up]
The corner of his mouth curved up unconsciously.
This vibrant girl had been excited since yesterday. She had even been holding her phone, checking car specs during their intimate moments last night.
Though every time she opened the details page, he would interrupt with a deep kiss, and the phone would unknowingly slip to the floor…
As Chen Tian was walking and scrolling through his phone, it vibrated again.
It was a selfie from Marin: her eyes were curved, she was making a V-sign at the camera, and the background clearly showed her packed bag and blazer.
[I'll wait for you at the school gate~]
He could imagine her standing there, blonde hair swaying, looking around expectantly.
Chen Tian smiled and replied: [Be there soon. P.S. That smile is cute]
Just as he sent the message, another one popped up. It was a photo from Kaguya: she and Yukino were standing under the teaching building, holding the cotton candy they bought at the amusement park.
[Ten-kun, I look forward to you letting me know the time for the picnic.]
Chen Tian was about to reply when a third message suddenly appeared.
Yukino sent a photo of the calico cat, with only two cold words as the caption: [Wednesday]
He turned the final corner.
At the school gate, Marin was standing on her tiptoes, looking around, her golden long hair flying in the wind.
The moment she saw Chen Tian, her eyes lit up. She hopped and waved like a cheerful little rabbit.
Chen Tian switched his phone to silent mode and tucked it into his pocket. Now, it was Marin's time.
Marin crashed into Chen Tian's arms like a small cannonball, carrying the sweet scent of sunshine and shampoo. "Boyfriend-kun is late!" She looked up, her blonde hair rubbing against Chen Tian's chin, her smile dazzling.
Chen Tian said nothing, his large hand naturally resting on the back of her head, his palm feeling the softness of her hair. The person in his arms moved restlessly, looking up, her eyes curved like crescent moons: "But it's okay! Usually, Boyfriend-kun waits for me. I'll wait for you today."
"Good, good, good," Chen Tian chuckled, his finger gently stroking her slightly puffed cheek. "Thank you for your patience, Marin."
"Hehe." Marin immediately smiled brightly. Her small hand skillfully slipped into Chen Tian's palm, their fingers interlacing. She tugged him out of the school gate: "Hurry, hurry! I made an appointment with the dealership, and I reserved a test drive. We absolutely cannot be late!"
Her steps were quick and urgent. Her golden hair, with pink tips, bounced behind her head. She continuously muttered, "That red sports car. The staff said there's a special offer today…"
The taxi door closed, and the cab drove toward the dealership.
Marin hugged Chen Tian's arm, her head resting on his shoulder, like a kitten finding its nest.
Suddenly, her small nose twitched. She leaned close to Chen Tian's collar and sniffed, her brows immediately furrowing.
Hmm? Marin's internal alarm bells went off. It was Shinomiya Kaguya's scent! Being in the same major as Ten-kun is such a hassle. She probably took advantage of my absence again…
She couldn't help but picture Kaguya-sama elegantly and cunningly approaching Chen Tian, and she angrily squeezed his arm tighter.
If Kaguya knew Marin's internal monologue, she would probably cry foul—she was nearly scared to death today, alright!
The car soon stopped.
As the two stepped out, a bald middle-aged man in a sharp suit immediately hurried from the dealership entrance, his face plastered with a professional smile. He bowed slightly to Marin enthusiastically: "Miss Kitagawa! We've been waiting for you!"
He turned his gaze to Chen Tian and bowed slightly: "This must be Mr. Chen Tian? Please come in, please come in! The red sports car you reserved is ready for a test drive."
Marin's eyes instantly sparkled. Her slight jealousy was immediately tossed out the window. She grabbed Chen Tian's hand and rushed inside: "Hurry, hurry, Ten-kun! I can't wait to try that little red car!"
The bald man, all smiles, led the two to the test drive waiting room. He poured them some water and respectfully withdrew to prepare the car keys.
Only the two of them remained in the room.
Chen Tian gently pulled Marin's hand toward him, looking down at her eyes, which were still sparkling with excitement, a hint of teasing in his smile: "Hey, why are you so excited? Do you even have a driver's license?"
Marin waved her hand dismissively, her other hand instinctively gesturing a steering wheel: "I don't, but you do! Besides, this is our first car, after all! Of course, I'm excited!"
Her voice was filled with pure joy.
Chen Tian was amused by her utterly convinced and childlike manner. He wrapped his arm around her, pulling her completely into his embrace, his warm breath fanning her forehead.
"You have a license, and I don't. That won't do." He tightened his arm, watching her ear tips instantly flush red, his voice filled with indulgence: "If you really love this car, you need to quickly get your license."
He paused, his chin gently rubbing against the top of her head, saying the crucial words: "After all, this car will be yours."
The person in his arms froze for a second, then suddenly looked up, her golden hair brushing his neck.
Her large eyes widened with disbelief, then burst into a brilliance even more dazzling than her test drive anticipation, like ignited fireworks. Surprise almost spilled out.
"Really… really?! It's for me?!" Marin's voice went up an octave. A radiant smile bloomed on her face, like a small animal overwhelmed by immense happiness. She instinctively rubbed against him: "Ten-kun! You're the best!"
The "small obstacle" of the driver's license was instantly washed away by this huge surprise.
Chen Tian's heart softened at her nuzzling. He gently pinched her cheeks, which were slightly puffed with excitement, and chuckled: "Mhm, it's settled."
The bald man soon returned with the car keys, leading the two outside with a beaming smile. A brand-new 2018 red Audi R8 Spyder sat quietly there, its sleek lines shimmering dazzlingly in the sunlight.
"Wow! Little Red!" Marin immediately let go of Chen Tian's hand and dashed toward the sports car like a cheerful little bird. Her entire face was almost pressed against the window as she peered inside, her wide eyes filled with awe. "It's so beautiful! The interior is amazing too!"
Chen Tian took the keys, signaling to the salesperson not to ride along.
The test drive quickly began.
Chen Tian drove first, moving smoothly on the city roads, feeling the car's handling and power. Marin sat in the passenger seat, excitedly touching and looking around, her seatbelt unable to contain her joyous heart.
When it was Chen Tian's turn to sit in the passenger seat to assess the riding comfort, he looked at Marin next to him.
Her hands gripped the steering wheel (though the car was stationary), her eyes shining astonishingly bright, her small face flushed with excitement. She nodded vigorously, her expression clearly saying, "It's amazing! It's amazing!"
Chen Tian smiled, no longer hesitating. He rolled down the window and spoke decisively to the bald salesperson waiting at the showroom entrance, his face etched with anticipation: "Alright, this is the one."
The bald man's smile instantly blossomed like a fully opened chrysanthemum. He loudly responded: "Wonderful, Mr. Chen Tian! This way, please! We'll process the paperwork right away!"
The contract was spread on the table.
"Sign here," Chen Tian pointed to the buyer's signature line and handed the pen to Marin.
Marin took the pen, her fingers trembling slightly.
Looking at her name about to be bound to that dream sports car, she sniffled, tears actually welling up in the corners of her eyes.
She quickly blinked them away, suppressing the surge of emotion, and swiftly signed her name—Kitagawa Marin.
"Done!" The bald salesperson smiled broadly, collecting the contract.
After all the paperwork was settled, Chen Tian pulled out the unlimited black card imprinted with a strange spiral pattern and casually swiped it.
The dealership would arrange for a brand-new identical car to be delivered; the test drive car couldn't be handed over as new.
On the way home, Marin was surprisingly quiet, not chattering like she had on the way there.
She just tightly hugged Chen Tian's arm, her face resting on his shoulder, giggling foolishly from time to time.
Chen Tian ruffled her head: "Come back to life."
"Mhm…" Marin rubbed against him, her voice muffled and nasal. "Ten-kun…"
"No, it's nothing…" She shook her head, burying her face deeper.
But her heart was bubbling like boiling water: Tonight… I must reward Boyfriend-kun properly tonight!
Opening the door to their house, the familiar air washed over them. Marin kicked off her shoes, her bare feet touching the floor, still feeling somewhat lightheaded.
"I really… have a car?" She turned around, looking up at Chen Tian as he changed his shoes, her wide eyes filled with disbelief.
Chen Tian had bought her plenty of things—bags, jewelry, cosplay outfits, limited edition game consoles…
But a sports car? The impact was completely different.
"Isn't your name on the contract?" Chen Tian changed into his slippers. Seeing her still spacing out, he intentionally teased her: "Should I call the dealership and say we made a mistake with the signature?"
"No!" Marin immediately pounced, hugging his waist tightly like a small cat guarding its food. "It's mine! My Little Red!"
Chen Tian chuckled, embracing her in return: "Then get used to it, future Owner Marin Kitagawa."
He lowered his head, rubbing his chin against the soft top of her head. "Want to give it a name? Calling it Little Red all the time feels like calling a puppy or a kitten."
"Mhm!" Marin nodded vigorously in his arms. She looked up, her smile blooming like a rose, the dampness at the corner of her eyes turning into bright light. "A name… let me think! It has to be the best name ever!"
She stood on her tiptoes, quickly pecked him on the lips, then ran off, blushing like a cat that had stolen something delicious: "I'm going to check how to get a driver's license the fastest!"
Chen Tian watched Marin skip away, shaking his head with a mix of helplessness and affection, then turned toward the kitchen.
He had just tied on the apron with the cartoon pattern, ready to prep the ingredients, when a small head poked through the doorway.
"Boyfriend-kun! Boyfriend-kun!" Marin's voice carried a mix of excitement and shyness.
Chen Tian stopped holding the knife and turned his head sideways: "Mhm? Why are you back? Finished researching the license guide?"
Marin was as nimble as a small fish, quickly slipping to his side. She wrapped her hands around his waist, resting her face against his apron-clad back and rubbing: "Hehe, not done yet. But, um… can I discuss something with you?"
Chen Tian slightly raised an eyebrow, signaling her to continue.
"Tomorrow… can you pick someone up for me?" Marin's voice had a hint of pleading.
"Pick someone up? Who?" Chen Tian turned around, looking down at her.
"It's a distant cousin of mine," Marin looked up, a hint of trouble on her face. "She just returned to the country. Her flight arrives tomorrow afternoon."
"Oh?" Chen Tian understood. "Alright. Are you busy tomorrow morning?"
Marin instantly slumped like a deflated ball: "Don't even talk about it! Tomorrow morning is the 'Demon Professor's' class… he's super strict with attendance. I can't possibly skip it!" She shivered, thinking of the professor's cold gaze.
Chen Tian nodded knowingly. He had also heard of that professor's reputation. "Fine. Send me a photo of the person you need me to pick up, and you contact her beforehand, so I don't scare her."
"Mhm, mhm, mhm!" Marin nodded repeatedly, a huge smile blooming on her face. "Boyfriend-kun is the best!" With that, she was about to dart out again like a gust of wind.
"Wait," Chen Tian quickly stopped her, his hands still slightly damp. "You haven't told me your cousin's name?"
Marin stopped abruptly, turned around, and smacked her forehead in annoyance: "Ah! Right, right, right! Look at me! I forgot the most important thing!"
She stuck out her pink tongue, shaking her head apologetically. "Her name is Tohsaka Rin! She just came back from an exchange at the 'Clock Tower' in Great Britain!"
"Tohsaka Rin?" Chen Tian noted the name. "Got it. Go ahead."
"Mhm!" Marin was completely relieved, responding happily. Like a frolicking young deer, she bounded out of the kitchen again, leaving Chen Tian alone in front of the counter.
Chen Tian watched the lively figure disappear through the doorway, smiling with a mix of helplessness and indulgence. He picked up the knife again and continued prepping the ingredients.
He sliced the carrot twice with the knife. Before the neat slices could even form, the blade suddenly stopped.
Chen Tian maintained the cutting posture, but his eyebrows involuntarily furrowed into a deep frown.
"Tohsaka Rin…?" He repeated the name softly. "Fate????"
