The trio rushed out of the crowded school gate area. Led expertly by Chen Tian, they didn't slow their pace, heading straight for the entrance of the nearby subway station.
There weren't too many people on the platform. Chen Tian stopped. Like a magician, he produced a baseball cap and a pair of discreet sunglasses from nowhere, smoothly putting them on, concealing most of his attention-grabbing face.
"What is this?" Shinomiya Kaguya slightly tilted her head. Yukino also cast a slightly questioning glance.
"Precautionary measures," Chen Tian smiled at them from behind the sunglasses. "Saves trouble from being recognized on the way." His voice sounded a bit muffled through the mask (which he had also donned at some point).
Kaguya and Yukino exchanged glances and nodded understandingly. Given Chen Tian's current fame, this was indeed necessary.
The sound signal for the incoming subway sounded. The three quickly boarded and luckily found three empty seats side-by-side.
Chen Tian naturally sat in the middle, with Kaguya and Yukino on either side.
The train carriage swayed slightly.
Yukino tidied her slightly ruffled skirt, her gaze fixed on the blurred reflection on the opposite window. She spoke in a low voice, her clear, cool tone carrying her usual sharpness: "This is truly absurd. The esteemed Student Council President, plus a top candidate for the Faculty of Business, publicly skipping classes together. The meaning is unclear."
Chen Tian leaned back against the seat, eyes closed, appearing completely deaf to her poisonous critique. The corner of his mouth seemed to hold a hint of an amused curve.
Kaguya sat erect on Chen Tian's other side, her hands folded elegantly on her lap, her back straight as if measured by a protractor. But her gaze subtly tracked the rapidly passing street scenery outside the window, a flicker of barely noticeable excitement in her eyes.
Skipping class again after such a long time, and with him… this small act of rebellion made the heart beating beneath her Young Lady composure subtly accelerate.
Seeing Chen Tian completely refuse to engage, Yukino frowned almost imperceptibly. She slightly turned her face, her icy blue eyes looking toward Chen Tian's profile, which was obscured by the cap brim and sunglasses. She spoke again, raising her volume slightly this time, with a tone of deliberate questioning:
"Hey. Chen Tian-kun." She paused. "Where are we going? You wouldn't really be abducting us, would you?"
Chen Tian finally reacted. He lazily opened his eyes, glanced at Yukino through the sunglasses, then swept his gaze over Kaguya, who was trying hard to maintain her composure but whose eyes were sparkling, and the corner of his mouth curved into a definite smile.
The subway arrived at its destination. Chen Tian led the two, who were still slightly dazed, expertly through several streets. When the colorful, vibrant spires, the giant Ferris wheel silhouette, and the sounds of screaming and cheering from high up became increasingly clear, the destination was finally revealed.
"Amusement park?"
"An amusement park?!"
Yukino and Kaguya exclaimed almost simultaneously, but their tones were worlds apart.
Kaguya's usually calm and elegant eyes instantly lit up with a whoosh, filling with sparkling stars! She even subconsciously gripped Chen Tian's sleeve, leaning slightly forward, like a kitten drawn by a fascinating new toy.
An amusement park! For her, the Young Lady of the Shinomiya family, it was not an unfamiliar word, but every time she set foot in one, she was invariably followed closely by maids and butlers, constantly reminded to mind her manners, mind her status, and mind her safety.
She was like a delicate porcelain doll in a display window, only able to watch the screaming, laughing figures from a safe distance. Right now, this noisy, colorful, vibrant, and genuinely fun park held a fatal attraction for her.
Yukino, on the other hand, was completely stunned. A rare hint of bewilderment and… distaste? flashed in her icy blue eyes.
An amusement park? Of course, she had been—once, when she was very young, brought by her parents as if fulfilling an obligation.
Her memory was filled with packed crowds, exaggerated screaming, cloyingly sweet cotton candy smells, and, in her opinion, pointless spinning rides.
She racked her brain but couldn't understand why Chen Tian would go through all this trouble, planning a "skip class operation" and attracting attention from the whole school, only for the final destination to be this… somewhat childish place, in her view. What was the meaning?
Chen Tian acted as if he didn't see the "Is that it?" question in Yukino's eyes. He removed his sunglasses and mask, revealing a smirk of successful planning, and raised his chin toward Kaguya: "How about it, Kaguya? Want to experience the 'commoner's' joy?"
Kaguya took a deep breath, suppressing the excitement in her eyes, trying to maintain her Young Lady poise, but her slightly shining eyes and the involuntary upturn of her lips betrayed her: "Ten-kun's arrangements are surprisingly delightful."
She didn't say whether she dared or not, but her anticipation was clear.
Yukino frowned slightly, her clear voice ringing out: "Chen Tian-kun, I believe your time and energy should be spent on more meaningful things. For example, returning to class." She attempted a final struggle.
"Meaning?" Chen Tian raised an eyebrow. He grabbed both their wrists, one in each hand, and walked straight toward the ticket booth without allowing for further argument. "The meaning is now! Yukino-kun, isn't it nice to be 'meaningless' for just one day? Let's go!"
Yukino was forcefully pulled forward. Watching the small children run past to buy ice cream, and the blurry figures screaming on the roller coaster in the distance, her cheeks slightly flushed. She protested in a low voice: "Absurd! Childish!"
However, the protest was useless. Chen Tian had already efficiently bought three all-access passes and tucked them into their hands.
"First stop, the carousel!" Chen Tian ignored Yukino's protest, pointing at the double-decker carousel near the entrance, flashing with colorful lights and playing cheerful nursery rhymes. His tone held an undeniable excitement: "Don't tell me you two don't want to ride this!"
Kaguya looked at the dreamy carousel, her eyes softening. This was a scene from her girlhood that she had only ever seen on television. She gently nodded, her feet already instinctively following him.
Yukino stood still, looking at the brightly colored, bobbing wooden horses, and the adults and children laughing without restraint on them. Her icy blue eyes were filled with rejection and the thought, "This is entirely unsuitable for my image." "Chen Tian-kun, I think we should…"
"Scared?" Chen Tian looked back, intentionally provoking her.
Yukino immediately straightened her neck, a hint of shame from being underestimated flashing across her face: "How could I be! I simply find it a waste of time!"
"Then don't waste time, get on!" Chen Tian had already climbed onto a tall white horse, extending his hand to help Kaguya get on the one next to him.
Kaguya looked at Chen Tian's extended hand, then at the ornate, delicate pumpkin carriage seat nearby, ultimately choosing the white horse that better suited her imagination.
She lifted her skirt and gracefully mounted the horse, a mix of novelty and nervousness on her face.
Yukino watched the excited pair. Looking at the cheerful atmosphere around them, her reluctance was finally suppressed by a faint, even self-denied, curiosity.
She kept a straight face, choosing the "most stable" black horse farthest from Chen Tian and Kaguya. She sat down, gripping the cold handrail tightly, her back perfectly straight, as if she wasn't there to play but to execute some important mission.
The music started, the horses began to turn, and the lights twinkled. Kaguya sat on the white horse in front, gently rising and falling with the rhythm. Feeling the evening breeze sweep through her hair and watching the colorful lights and shadows around her, the smile on her lips could no longer be contained, pure and genuine, like the melting of fresh snow.
In this moment, there were no butlers, no maids, no rules, only a pure, genuine joy that belonged entirely to her.
Yukino sat on the black horse behind, her body stiffly swaying with the horse. Her ice-sculpture expression struggled to hold firm. But as the carousel reached its highest point and the view suddenly opened up, with the distant Ferris wheel and the castle gilded by the setting sun, the line of her perpetually tight lips seemed to very slightly… curve upwards?
It quickly reverted, so fast that one might think it was an illusion. Only she knew that a string in a corner of her heart, which had been tightly wound, seemed to have been subtly plucked by this childish music.
Chen Tian looked back, perfectly capturing the unconcealed delight on Kaguya's face, and the fleeting, minimal relaxation on Yukino's.
After the carousel, Chen Tian transformed into the perfect tour guide and companion. He treated the two to ice cream coated with colorful sugar sprinkles. Yukino, while protesting that the "sugar content is excessive," ate it carefully, bite by small bite.
He then bought them an exaggeratedly shaped cotton candy. Kaguya, mimicking the children nearby, cautiously bit into a cloud, her eyes squinting from the sweetness.
The atmosphere grew increasingly relaxed. Passing by an accessory stall, Chen Tian's gaze swept over the sparkling hair ornaments, and a smile appeared on his lips.
"Don't move." He suddenly stopped in front of Yukino. Before Yukino could react, he reached out and gently undid her meticulously neat black, straight hair.
Under her slightly astonished gaze, his distinctly jointed hands skillfully divided her smooth black hair into two sections, rapidly tying them into two clean, brisk pigtails high up on her head.
"You…!" A hint of annoyance and panic flashed in Yukino's icy blue eyes, and her cheeks quietly turned red.
This was a hairstyle she occasionally tied when alone, finding it convenient, but would never display in public.
She tried to reach up to stop him, but her hand paused halfway, and she ultimately just turned her head awkwardly, muttering softly: "…Childish."
Chen Tian was unfazed and turned his attention to Kaguya.
The Young Lady's elegantly coiled hairstyle was undone, her smooth long hair cascading down like a waterfall.
Then, under Kaguya's slightly curious and expectant gaze, he simply gathered her long hair and tied it into a lively high ponytail at the back of her head, with a few strands naturally falling onto her forehead.
"This is more liberating," Chen Tian said, satisfied with his "work."
Stripped of the rigid coil, the high-ponytail Kaguya had less of the formal elegance and more of a girl's bright energy. She subconsciously shook her head, feeling her entire field of vision widen slightly.
Unbeknownst to them, the two girls were gradually immersed in the relaxed atmosphere Chen Tian created and the unique noisy cheerfulness of the amusement park. Although Yukino was still largely expressionless, the line of her tightly closed lips seemed to have softened slightly.
Kaguya's smile, on the other hand, was becoming increasingly genuine and natural, occasionally letting out small gasps of surprise while pointing at a certain ride.
After riding the leisurely sightseeing boat, Chen Tian looked down at his wristwatch—11:30 AM.
The gentle smile on his face instantly switched, replaced by a slight, cunning, excited grin, like a hunter who finally sees his prey relax.
"Alright, the cozy time is over." He snapped his fingers, his eyes shining astonishingly brightly. "Final item, the main event! After this, our skip class operation should conclude!"
Without allowing them to argue, he pulled both the still-dazed Kaguya and Yukino, one in each hand, and strode purposefully forward.
Soon, a huge shadow fell over them, accompanied by the deafening sound of grinding steel and the tourists' intermittent, almost sky-splitting screams—
A massive, winding roller coaster, its track twisting and coiling like a gigantic python, stood before them like a steel monster!
Kaguya and Yukino, who were still warm from the recent leisurely rides, had the relaxed smiles on their faces instantly freeze. They looked up at the towering, steep slopes and the rapidly flipping loops, their expressions utterly bewildered.
The screams seemed to explode right next to their ears!
Chen Tian watched the two girls' frozen expressions. The planned mischievous smile had just curved his lips, ready to enjoy their look of sheer terror—
"That's fantastic!"
Two distinct but equally energized exclamations instantly burst out!
Kaguya's beautiful eyes lit up astonishingly with a whoosh, as if ten thousand volts had been injected into her. Her previous bewilderment was completely swept away, replaced by unconcealed excitement!
She suddenly reached out, tightly grabbing Chen Tian's sleeve, shaking it eagerly: "Ten-kun! Ten-kun! Is this it?! I've always wanted to ride this! I've never had the chance!"
Her delicate face was flushed with excitement, and her ponytail bobbed lively with her movements.
At the same time, Yukino's clear voice, sounding utterly relieved, rang out next to them, carrying a hint of lightness: "Finally, we can ditch those childish rides."
In her icy blue eyes, there was actually a glint of eagerness, and the corner of her mouth even curved upwards into a clearly visible small arc, completely unlike the resistance she had shown toward the carousel.
The mischievous smile on Chen Tian's face instantly froze, and his mouth twitched slightly.
"…Huh?"
He was stunned, his mind slightly short-circuited.
Wait… the script is wrong?
Shouldn't these two Young Ladies be screaming and backing away like normal girls?
Why does Kaguya look like she won the lottery?! Why is there excitement hidden in Yukino's tone of distaste?
Are they genuinely not scared, or…?
He looked at Kaguya, who was practically jumping with excitement on his left, and then at Yukino, who was trying hard to keep a straight face but whose eyes were shining on his right. He felt like his carefully prepared "plan to make them completely drop their facades" was a damp squib.
"Come on, Ten-kun!" Kaguya pulled hard on his sleeve, seeing him hesitate, pointing at the roaring steel beast. "Let's hurry and queue up!" The Young Lady's decorum was utterly lost in the face of immense anticipation.
Yukino had already taken the initiative, stepping toward the entrance with light steps, leaving only the words: "Don't waste time, Chen Tian-kun."
Chen Tian stood still, watching the two Young Ladies rush toward the roller coaster entrance, one after the other, with a clear purpose. It was as if the person who resisted the carousel wasn't Yukino, and the person who was elegantly restrained wasn't Kaguya.
He raised his hand and rubbed his brow, finally letting out a helpless laugh, and quickly followed: "…Coming, coming."
The roller coaster's safety bar clacked down, locking the trio firmly in place.
Kaguya sat on the very end, gripping Chen Tian's hand tightly. Her eyes were sparkling as she stared at the steep track ahead, her small face flushed with excitement: "Ten-kun, it's about to start!"
Yukino sat on Chen Tian's other side, her hands also subconsciously gripping the safety bar across her chest, her knuckles slightly white. But her eyes were unusually focused, staring ahead. The tight line of her lips showed a hint of nervousness, but even more so… anticipation?
Chen Tian felt Kaguya's grip on his left hand stinging and the faint tremor of Yukino's fingertips through the safety bar on his right. Looking at their expressions, which were different but equally screamed "bring it on," the corner of his mouth couldn't help but curve again—Alright, I got played, but… this isn't bad either, is it?
The engine's roar suddenly grew louder. The train slowly began to climb the steep slope…
