Chapter 1 - Escape

"Gah!!!" A roar of agonizing pain rang out and echoed through a cold and dark room, the sound reverberating off the sterile walls.

In the center of the room there lied a metal table where a child layed, strapped down and helpless. He was only 13 years old, just a boy. A mutant that had been captured by the government and brought to this facility.

Four people dressed in pristine white coats surrounded him on all sides, methodically cutting and tearing into his body and flesh with surgical instruments, treating him like nothing more than a specimen.

He was from a family of mutants and his parents had been killed by those who hunted mutants. Ever since the day he was born into this world he had been on the run, never knowing safety or peace.

His father had been a spider mutant and his mother had been a centipede mutant. He had been born with both of their traits combined within him. Because of that unique combination he had been born with a grotesque and unsettling appearance that made others recoil in fear.

A few years ago he had been captured and detained along with his parents. They were all experimented on relentlessly and subjected to countless procedures, and now only he was left alive, the sole survivor of his family.

Everyday that he lived it was like pure agony, an existence of endless suffering. His blood would be taken and extracted. His limbs would be torn apart, but because of his regenerative powers he kept regenerating and healing, only to be torn apart again.

He desperately wanted the pain to stop, prayed for it to end, but they never stopped their experiments,

"Agh!!" He roared out in excruciating pain as they tore out one of his fingers, ripping it from his hand.

As he screamed and cried out, tears streamed down his face in rivulets. His mind was being broken and shattered to a point of no return, his sanity crumbling. But deep inside his fractured psyche something was growing and festering—something dark and sinister.

Then finally they stopped their work for the day. Looking at the pieces of tissue and body parts they had taken and collected, they nodded to each other in satisfaction.

"This should be enough for today, bring it to the scientists for analysis." One of them said in a clinical tone.

The others nodded in agreement and left the room with what they had taken and harvested from the boy's body. The one that had spoken remained in the room for a brief moment, observing the boy, before turning and leaving and heading towards the door.

After the doctor finally left and closed the door behind him, the boy smiled a grotesque and twisted smile and tore off the metal restraints that had been binding and pinning him down to the table.

Standing up from the table he stood at a swooping height of 5'10. He was only 13 years old and was already so incredibly tall. One could only imagine how much taller and more imposing he would become as he continued to grow.

He had multiple eyes scattered across his face, giving him an alien appearance, along with six sharp spider legs protruding from his back. His mouth constantly secreted a potent venom that could kill almost anything it touched.

Spiders in nature can lift approximately 10 times their normal body weight. And some special species of spiders can lift more than 170 times their own weight. But he was different, he was special and far beyond normal limits. He could lift over 200 times his own body weight with ease.

Right now he weighed about 110 pounds since he hadn't been eating good food or getting proper nutrition. That meant he could theoretically lift up to 22,000 pounds if he were at full strength.

He was essentially a living machine, a weapon made of flesh and bone. But as of now he couldn't do much or utilize his full potential since he was severely malnourished and weakened as well as the fact that he had reached his full potential or reach adulthood. He could have escaped from this place a while ago but he had deliberately waited, biding his time until he had eaten enough to do so successfully.

This laboratory and its staff already knew full well of his immense strength and incredible capabilities, and so they only fed him through tubes and IV lines, and they never provided enough nutrients or calories for him to use his power to its fullest extent, but there was a new person who had recently joined the staff.

That new person that he didn't know the name of, seemed to feel bad and sympathetic for him and his situation, and would occasionally bring him different snacks and small portions of real food.

He was extremely grateful and appreciative for the man and his small acts of kindness, since he was able to finally escape from his bindings and restraints because of him and the extra sustenance he provided.

Hearing the sound of footsteps approaching from outside the door he immediately jumped up on to the ceiling, using his spider abilities. It was the guard that normally and routinely sent him back to his cell after each session.

Attaching himself firmly to the ceiling using his abilities he waited patiently and silently for the man to enter the room. Slowly and steadily the door opened as the man stepped inside.

The guard then paused and froze when he saw and realized that the boy was no longer strapped on the table where he should have been. He immediately and instinctively went to grab his radio to call for backup, but it was already too late for him.

"Got you," a cold and emotionless voice said from directly above him in the darkness.

The man froze in terror but he was already caught and trapped. Sharp spider legs caught him and pierced through his flesh like knives. The guard desperately tried to reach out toward the door as it slowly closed and sealed behind him, cutting off his escape.

Fear and horror etched across his face as tears of panic fell from his eyes.

Crunch crunch

The soundproof room didn't let any noise or sound leave or escape its walls. The boy began to eat and consume as much as he possibly could, driven by hunger. The man screamed in agony as his flesh was being devoured and torn apart.

The boy's face remained cold and expressionless as he ate the man alive, showing no emotion or remorse. It was the first human being he had ever eaten in his life, but it didn't matter to him anymore, he felt nothing.

He wasn't a cannibal by nature or by choice. It was just that he had a special and unique ability that set him apart. His body could absorb DNA and genetic material and constantly evolve and adapt according to what he ate and consumed.

But he hadn't been able to use it to its full potential or see its true capabilities since there had been nothing substantial to eat or consume until now.

In another section of the sprawling facility, far removed from the cold examination room, multiple people dressed in white laboratory coats could be seen diligently working and conducting tests on the various pieces and samples of tissue they had taken and harvested from the boy.

"His DNA is extremely powerful and unlike anything we've encountered before," a scientist said with a mixture of awe and concern as he carefully mixed the boy's blood with another experimental liquid substance.

The others who were gathered around the laboratory workstation nodded slowly in agreement, their expressions serious and contemplative.

"It's a good thing that he isn't being fed enough proper nutrition or sufficient calories, or he would probably already have the strength to escape from this place. And I can't be too sure or confident that we will be spared if that happens," the man added nervously, fear clearly laced and evident in his trembling voice.

The scientists in the room went quiet and fell into an uncomfortable silence at the man's ominous words. After a long pause, another scientist, a woman with graying hair, then spoke up hesitantly.

"Are we doing the right thing here? Is what we're doing truly justified?" She asked, her face filled with visible regret and moral uncertainty.

Some of the researchers grit their teeth in guilt and shame. They had all seen the boy up close during the procedures. He wasn't the monster they had initially expected or been told about - he was young and had once been innocent. Previously many of them had hated and feared mutants because of what they'd seen reported in the news and media, but after witnessing firsthand what this particular boy had been through and endured, they didn't know what to think anymore or where they stood.

Each and every time the boy screamed out in agony or desperately begged and cried out for his deceased parents, they felt deep down like they had committed a grave and unforgivable sin against an innocent child.

"What was the boy's name again? Does anyone remember?" one scientist asked, his voice filled with profound guilt and regret.

"I-it was Adam. His name is Adam," one of the younger researchers answered quietly.

Named after the first human being in biblical tradition. Yet despite that meaningful name, he had experienced so much hatred, cruelty, and suffering from those of his own kind - from humanity itself.

"Everyone get back to work immediately, we can't afford to waste any more time standing around," one of the senior scientists said firmly, though internally he was the most affected and conflicted of them all.

He himself had lost his own parents to violent mutant attacks years ago and had harbored deep hatred toward mutants ever since that tragic day. But now, seeing how mutants like this boy were being treated and experimented on in this facility, he couldn't help but question everything and blame humanity for its cruelty.

Suddenly, without warning, red emergency lights began to blare and flash throughout the entire facility. As the loud and piercing alarm noise began to ring out and echo through the corridors, the doctors and scientists looked around at each other in growing panic and fear.

This flashing alarm and siren only meant one thing - one terrible thing. A mutant test subject had somehow managed to escape from containment. But there was only one mutant being held in this particular facility at this time.

"Everyone get to the emergency exits immediately, right now!" the lead scientist commanded urgently and started leading and directing them toward the nearest exit route.

They quickly left the laboratory area and began running down the sterile white hallways as fast as their legs could carry them. But as they ran desperately for their lives, they could hear bloodcurdling screams echoing from somewhere behind them - screams of absolute horror and mortal fear.

They breathed heavily and raggedly as they continued to run, their lungs burning. Their hearts beat faster and faster, pounding against their chests like drums. They could hear the sounds of other people running frantically behind them in the corridors, but then suddenly and eerily, all the sounds stopped completely.

But none of the fleeing scientists dared to turn back and look to see what had happened. Then suddenly and finally they reached one of the secured emergency exits. They frantically took out their security access cards and prepared to swipe them and leave, but then a single drop of blood fell from directly above and landed on the floor in front of them.

They all froze completely in their tracks and shook uncontrollably with terror as they slowly, hesitantly looked upward. There was Adam, clinging to the ceiling above them like a predatory spider, fresh blood dripping steadily down from his mouth and fingers.

"Aaaagh!!!!?" They screamed in absolute terror and horror.

He launched himself down from the ceiling with incredible speed and force and began viciously tearing each of them apart one by one. They tried desperately to escape through the exit door, but their shaking and trembling was too severe and intense, and they couldn't manage to put in the right security passcode with their fumbling fingers.

Until finally, after the carnage, there was only one person left alive. The very lead scientist himself. He looked around at all the people who had died around him, their bodies torn and broken. He looked like he had aged several decades in mere minutes.

"Old man," Adam said coldly, looking down at him.

The man looked up at the boy with wide, disbelieving eyes and couldn't believe or comprehend that this child was capable of such grotesque and brutal behavior.

"Since you helped me and showed me kindness, I'll spare you and let you live," Adam said quietly and walked passed the trembling man before casually punching the heavy metal security door completely off its reinforced hinges.

The old man fell down onto his knees, watching helplessly as Adam walked away from the facility and disappeared into the other sections of the facility . But soon, even from that distance, he could hear more screams beginning to ring out from elsewhere in the compound.

A few hours later, he found himself standing completely alone outside of the destroyed facility, his body still trembling slightly from the adrenaline and exertion. This particular base had been deliberately hidden and concealed deep within a large and dense forested area, far away from any signs of civilization. He took a moment to look around carefully in all directions, scanning his surroundings, and all he could see stretching out endlessly before him was an ocean of tall trees and thick vegetation.

Behind him, scattered throughout the facility's corridors and rooms, countless corpses lay sprawled across the cold floor, their bodies broken and lifeless. He didn't look back at them as he began to run with determined urgency, putting as much distance as possible between himself and the scene of carnage. Having finally had his fill of food and sustenance after so long, and with his incredibly efficient digestive system working and processing at an accelerated rate, he had already managed to reach his absolute peak physical condition and strength.

But now, despite his newfound power and freedom, he desperately needed to find a safe and secure place to hide from those who would inevitably come looking for him. He knew without a doubt that he would soon be actively hunted and pursued by government forces, and on top of that growing concern, he suddenly felt extremely strange and disoriented, like he was going to pass out and lose consciousness at any moment.

As a unique hybrid mix of both spider and centipede mutant genetics, he possessed incredible speed and agility that far exceeded normal limits. His body moved with fluid grace and supernatural swiftness through the forest terrain. He was moving and traveling at incredible speeds of well over 100 miles per hour, his feet barely seeming to touch the ground.

He didn't dare stop running or slow down his pace as he went rapidly past multiple forest creatures and animals that scattered in fear at his approach. Eventually, after what felt like an eternity of running, he came across the dark opening of a cave entrance and immediately stopped before cautiously heading inside to investigate and take shelter.

By now his head had become increasingly heavy and difficult to hold up, the weight of exhaustion bearing down on him. He was already dangerously close to passing out from the strain and transformation his body was undergoing. Before he could even properly lay himself down on the cold cave floor in a comfortable position, his body suddenly slumped forward and he fell hard to the rocky ground, completely losing control.

As he went unconscious and his awareness faded into darkness, his bones began to crack and shift audibly beneath his skin, his outer layer of skin began to shed and peel away in large pieces, and his more obvious and visible mutant features and characteristics began to gradually disappear and retract until eventually, after the painful transformation was complete, he looked like a completely normal human being with no outward signs of his mutation.

But completely unknown to him in his unconscious state, time began to pass steadily outside the cave as he slept deeply and remained motionless. His body continued to undergo changes and began to evolve and adapt internally, though the transformation was no longer happening externally or visibly on the outside anymore.
