Ash-Veil Dungeon, Floor 2 — Deep Blue Ring Region
The veins of the labyrinth turned black in an instant. The blue lights vanished entirely.
The ground collapsed inward with a muffled rumble.
BOOM.
The floor shook.Moist stones trembled overhead.Aras lost his balance and stabbed the Clawblade into the ground to stop himself.
SYSTEM WARNING "Floor 2 Guardian is awakening."
The Grey Ring spun sharply against his chest.Heavy footsteps rose from beneath the earth—so powerful they smothered his heartbeat.
Darkness split open.
A colossal shadow pulled itself out of the tunnel wall, dragging its arms along the stone. Everywhere its hands touched disintegrated into dust.
It had no face—At least, not yet.
But it had a form:
Mist sunken to its chest,
A rotating vortex where a neck should be,
And a trembling, shapeless surface…
Aras drew a single breath—and in that breath, the creature's "face" began to take shape.
The vortex twisted…Particles condensed…And three masks formed—stacked atop one another.
THE THREE QUESTIONS1) "Who am I?" — The Faceless Mask
Dark grey.Eyes like empty pits.A face of identity-lessness.
2) "Why am I here?" — The Reason Mask
Deep blue.Cracked lines forming a faint question mark.
Aras shivered. That was his question. The dungeon had heard it.
3) "Am I afraid of being split?" — The Fractured Mirror Mask
Shards of broken mirror. Each shard reflecting a faint, distorted Aras.
A whisper crossed Aras's mind:
"My fears… carved onto its face."
SYSTEM EXPLANATION"The Guardian has integrated the carrier's mental echoes into its form.As the battle progresses, each mask becomes an active threat."
Aras raised the Clawblade.
The Guardian roared.
✦ BATTLE START — The First Strike of the Rift
The Guardian slammed its fist down.
Aras dodged aside, but the impact hurled dust, memory fragments, and stone into the air.A searing pain flared on his shoulder—skin torn.
The Grey Ring flashed.
SYSTEM"Pain reduced."
No time to breathe. The creature wound up for a second strike—
And the first mask activated.
✦ THE FACELESS MASK — "Who am I?"
The blow distorted Aras's perception. He knew the attack was coming, yet its direction kept shifting.
The Grey Ring strained to anchor the visual field.
Aras thought:
"I know who I am… right now, I am the one who fights."
Clarity snapped into place. He swung the Clawblade in a clean arc.
The mask cracked.
✦ THE REASON MASK — "Why am I here?"
The Guardian pulled back.A guttural hum rolled through the hall.Blue veins flickered to life.
The Reason Mask moved forward.
A wave of questioning burst outward—pulling at Aras's consciousness.
For a brief moment he forgot:
—Where he was—Why he fought—Why he moved forward
A few seconds… but in battle, eternity.
The Grey Ring spun violently:
SYSTEM "Consciousness collapse prevented."
Aras inhaled sharply.
"I'm here because I'm alive.And if I'm alive, I must move forward!"
The Ring pulsed in agreement.
Aras twisted the blade. This time the shadow along its edge extended as a contour-line—
A strike.The blue mask shattered.
✦ THE FRACTURED MIRROR MASK — "Am I afraid of being split?"
Darkness fell over the dungeon.Everything split in two.
Aras saw two versions of himself:
—One stepping forward—One recoiling
Both felt real.
His mind split. His knees buckled.Warm blood slid from his nose.
The Grey Ring blared:
SYSTEM"Mind strike reduced by 70%."
Aras was still standing. But if he failed to break this mask, his mind would shatter permanently.
He gripped the Clawblade with both hands.
For the first time, the shadow form responded to his will—it trembled.
Aras roared:
"Even if I must split—I choose to gather myself!"
The blade ripped forward in a dark arc.
The shadow leapt from the blade's tip like a feline burst—and accelerated the strike.
KRAAACK.
The final mask exploded.
The Guardian staggered. Its dark body collapsed inward.
With its last flicker of echo, it reached toward Aras:
"You… have found your answer."
And crumbled.

The ground trembled softly.Blue veins reignited.
A door—more thought than matter—opened slowly ahead.

The fire in his eyes was not fear.
It was readiness.
