Kasteil parked his car in front of the restaurant where Holland worked and turned the engine off, but he didn't move right away. His hands stayed on the steering wheel, fingers tightening slowly, knuckles whitening as the uneasy feeling in his chest grew heavier.
Holland had told him he would call when he was done. Kasteil had offered to pick him up the moment his shift ended.
That had been yesterday evening.
Kasteil glanced at the dashboard clock again.
12:03 p.m.
Holland had said the deliveries would come in at around eight in the morning. Even if things ran late, even if something went wrong, there was no reason he shouldn't have called by now. No reason he wouldn't answer.
Unless something was wrong.
Kasteil picked up his phone again, even though he already knew what he would see. Missed calls. Messages left unread. He scrolled through the call log, irritation and fear tightening in his chest with every unanswered attempt.
