Chapter 8 - Someone: Kato Megumi Stole My Life

In the original timeline, Megumi Kato was a girl whose presence was so low she could have been a strong contender for the title of Grand Assassin. In this reversed world, she went to the other extreme—her presence was unbelievably high.

For example, even if someone transformed into Ultraman right next to Megumi Kato, the first reaction of any witness would be: "Look! It's Kato-san!".

As for how that Ultraman striking a classic pose appeared? Who cares?

So, if an Ultraman human host were to ever appear in this world, they should probably get in touch with Megumi Kato to help hide their identity.

People's joys and sorrows are not shared, and this holds true even for the same person.

Just as much as the low-presence Megumi Kato wanted to increase her presence, the reversed Megumi Kato wanted to lower hers.

Don't be fooled by her current fame. Though she's hailed as the King of a Hundred Beasts and the delinquent girl closest to the top at Shuchiin and its surrounding areas, it was all the result of a series of misunderstandings.

She wasn't a delinquent at all! How did she end up as the King of a Hundred Beasts?!

In Megumi Kato's self-perception, she was just going to school like a normal student when a bunch of followers inexplicably gathered around her and, without any room for argument, thrust her into this position.

What could she do? Surrounded by a circle of fierce-looking, intimidating delinquent girls chanting "Long live the Boss," Megumi Kato didn't dare say she was actually a good girl.

What if she told the truth and the delinquents, out of humiliation and anger, decided to clean house?!

If it weren't for Megumi Kato's deadpan expression, which allowed her to remain composed even if a mountain were to collapse before her, perfectly concealing the turbulent storm in her heart, she would have been screwed long ago.

So why did she end up in this situation? It was still because of her abnormally high presence.

Whenever there was a scuffle between thugs, a battle between legendary delinquents, or even just an incident of someone stealing candy from a kid, if Megumi Kato happened to pass by, everyone around would automatically assume she was the one responsible.

That's right, she, Megumi Kato, was the scapegoat of this world. Every bad thing was her doing!

Secretly inciting an assassin to kill the Know-It-All King, helping Abe open his heart, ordering the TV station to stop broadcasting the Sentai series—it was all her!

The list of her evil deeds was so long it could fill a whole Kichiku-style parody video titled "The Evil Deeds of Megumi Kato."

If she were only seen as the mastermind behind all evil, she wouldn't be so revered by the delinquents; at most, she'd have a role similar to the principal in Crayon Shin-chan who looks like a mob boss.

But as mentioned before, the great war among legendary delinquents was about a mysterious person who appeared out of nowhere in the last year and defeated various legendary senior delinquents, or rather, delinquent women.

And every time, Megumi Kato would coincidentally pass by the scene of the defeat. Just like how King from One-Punch Man stole Saitama's credit, Megumi Kato, due to her incredibly high presence, had stolen the life that mysterious person was supposed to enjoy.

This is the story of the delinquent closest to the top, the King of a Hundred Beasts, Megumi Kato.

"Boss Kato, I've got the intel!" A subordinate ran into their base, full of excitement. "Yukinoshita from the Service Club deserted mid-battle because of a man named Kanzaki Saku."

"Because of Yukinoshita's absence, the delinquents in the area don't recognize the outcome of the final battle. Should we use this Kanzaki Saku guy to stir things up?"

Megumi Kato, who had been reminiscing about her glorious past, was pulled back to reality by the report.

Glancing at the circle of huge lesbians surrounding her, Megumi Kato, being a normal person, felt a pang of conscience. She definitely didn't want to drag anyone else into this mess, especially not a boy.

So, maintaining her poker face, she said in a completely flat tone, "There's no need to worry about that Kanzaki Saku. We will never lose."

The moment she said this, her underlings were stunned for a second, then their faces filled with immense admiration.

"That's our Boss Kato!"

"Class! That's the class of the King of a Hundred Beasts!"

"So honorable! She scorns such underhanded tactics!"

"We, the Kato Legion, will reach the top through sheer strength!"

Amidst a chorus of praise, the Kato Legion's victory celebration came to an end.

After the party, the delinquent girls left in small groups, arms slung over each other's shoulders, discussing their boss's magnanimity.

The subordinate who had suggested going after Kanzaki Saku was among them, but she was stopped by someone before she got far.

Because Megumi Kato wasn't interested in leading, she didn't manage the Kato Legion's affairs. So, there were no officially designated officers. However, some people inevitably stood out, and one of them had taken on the role of strategist.

The one who stopped the subordinate was this very strategist, the tacitly acknowledged "brains" of the Kato Legion—Kotegawa Yui.

Kotegawa Yui pulled the subordinate into an empty corner, her expression serious.

"You heard what Sister Megumi said just now, right?" Kotegawa Yui asked in a low voice.

"I heard!" The subordinate nodded vigorously, her face beaming with admiration. "Boss Kato disdains dirty tricks and wants to reach the top with pure strength! We can't let her down!"

"You idiot!" Kotegawa Yui tapped her on the head, frustrated by her lack of perceptiveness. "That's just what Sister Megumi said on the surface. You have to learn to grasp her deeper meaning! Only then can you become her right-hand woman!"

The subordinate rubbed her forehead, a look of naive clarity in her eyes.

Kotegawa Yui looked left and right, confirming no one was eavesdropping, before guiding her in an even more mysterious tone: "Let me ask you, does the boss like men?"

"Is that even a question?!" The subordinate looked at her as if she'd stated the obvious. "Of course she does! I like men too! Who doesn't like men?! Men are amazing!"

"Then let me ask you again. Our boss, who would even steal lollipops from elementary schoolers and is known for having no scruples, suddenly says she wants to rely on pure strength to reach the top. She specifically emphasized not to bother with a high-quality man who could make her rival Yukinoshita lose her composure. What does that imply?"

"It implies..." The subordinate fell into deep thought. Though not particularly bright, she became sharp as if possessed by Conan whenever the topic involved men.

"It implies the boss has taken a liking to that man! She doesn't want us to use 'underhanded' methods because she's afraid of scaring or hurting her crush!"

"Bingo!" Kotegawa Yui gave her a relieved look, as if to say 'you finally get it,' and patted her shoulder. "Exactly! Sister Megumi is catching feelings! As her subordinates, we need to help ease our boss's worries and secretly help things along, understand?"

"I see! I completely understand now!" The subordinate was instantly fired up, her eyes filled with determination. "Don't worry, Strategist Kotegawa! I know what to do! We have to help Boss Kato win over that Kanzaki Saku!"
