Chapter 8 - 8. The Leviathan’s Whisper

The storm rolled in without warning.

Dark waves crashed against the cliffs below Tsukiren Ridge, and the air carried a hum—

low, ancient, vibrating with something that felt alive.

Rin, Nahara, and Elion followed Rokuro down a crumbling path toward an old seaworn staircase spiraling deep underground.

Elion paused at the entrance.

Elion:

"This aura… it feels like it's watching us."

Rokuro:

"It is.

The abyss remembers every footstep.

Tread lightly."

The staircase led into a colossal underwater cavern (The Ocean Root Temple).

Bioluminescent algae lit towering pillars carved long before any known civilization.

Nahara stepped forward, the water instantly reacting to her presence.

A whisper echoed through the chamber.

"Child of the Tide…

Will you hear the Leviathan?"

Nahara's breath hitched.

Rin reached for her hand, but Rokuro raised his staff.

Rokuro:

"Let her walk alone.

This is the calling of her bloodline."

Nahara nodded and descended deeper, where the water darkened into a liquid void.

A colossal eye opened beneath the water.

A single, ancient, abyssal pupil.

Nahara trembled.

Nahara:

"…you're real."

The Leviathan King spoke without words.

"You carry pain…

You carry fear…

But will you carry me?"

The water surged upward, engulfing her—

and Nahara disappeared beneath the surface.

Rin instinctively ran forward—

but a barrier of pressurized water stopped him cold.

Rin:

"Nahara!"

Rokuro's voice was solemn.

Rokuro:

"She must face what the ocean drowned her in…

or she will never master the Crown."

While Rin slammed his fists into the barrier, Elion slowly approached the edge.

His golden runes flickered.

Elion:

"She's terrified. I can feel it.

My Sol Requiem can soothe her emotions from here—"

Rokuro suddenly gripped his wrist.

Rokuro:

"No.

Your power cannot shelter her from her past.

But… there is something else you can do."

Elion blinked.

Rokuro tapped Elion's chest—

right above his heart.

Rokuro:

"You possess an affinity no Solari has shown for millennia.

Soft light.

Gentle light.

A light meant to heal oceans and moons alike."

Elion's voice shook.

Elion:

"But that's why they called me defective…"

Rokuro smiled.

Rokuro:

"And that is why you may surpass every Solari before you."

Elion froze—

the words sinking into his bones.

For the first time, someone wasn't telling him who he should be.

They were telling him who he could become.

The runes around Elion's arms began to glow—

not gold, but soft white-gold, almost lunar in hue.

Elion gasped.

Elion:

"I—I've never seen this color before."

Rokuro took a step back.

Rokuro:

"That is not Solari light.

It is Dawnlight—

the light that existed before the sun and moon separated."

Rin and Elion exchanged stunned looks.

Rin:

"So he's… something different?"

Rokuro:

"Not different.

Rare.

Balanced."

The cavern trembled again.

Rokuro pointed to a stone pillar etched with faded glyphs.

Rokuro:

"Elion, place your hand here.

If you truly possess the Dawnlight…

it will awaken for you."

Elion swallowed.

He stepped up…

…placed his hand on the stone…

…and the entire cavern exploded with radiance.

ELION'S NEW ABILITY — "DAWNDIVER (黎浄歩, Reijō-ho)"

Light spread across the cavern floor like a rippling tide.

Elion floated above the ground, his body disassembling into pure light—

but this time, it wasn't the harsh golden flare of Solari movement.

It was soft. Graceful.

Almost weightless.

Rin stepped back, shielding his eyes.

Rin:

"Elion—your body—!"

Elion's voice echoed from every direction at once.

Elion:

"I think… I can move through light itself.

Not just sunlight.

Any light."

He reformed in front of them, glowing brighter than ever.

Rokuro nodded with pride.

Rokuro:

"You have shed the limitations of a Solari child.

Welcome to your true path."

ELION'S SECOND ABILITY — "HEARTHRAY (心兆光, Shinshow)"

Elion noticed the water barrier around Nahara flicker with her fear.

Without thinking, he lifted his hand…

…and a gentle beam of white-gold light spilled out, bending across the chamber.

Rin stared.

Rin:

"What is that?"

Elion:

"I… don't know.

But it feels like I'm sending her courage."

The light passed through the barrier and into the deep.

Beneath the water, Nahara was drowning in memories.

Her mother being swept away.

Her exile.

The whispers of her tribe.

"You awakened the tide too soon."

"Your storm killed her."

"You are the cursed daughter."

The Leviathan's voice echoed around her.

"Show me who you are, child."

Nahara screamed.

Nahara:

"I AM NOT A CURSE!"

Her hair spiraled like ink underwater.

Her scales shimmered.

Her eyes glowed with fury and grief.

Then—

A soft light touched her palm.

Elion's light.

His courage.

Nahara's fear shattered.

She inhaled—

and the ocean inhaled with her.

The water exploded upward.

A massive spectral Leviathan rose behind her, roaring with ancient might.

Nahara floated above the pool, glowing with deep blue majesty.

Her voice echoed with layered tones.

Nahara:

"Shin'ō: Leviathan's Crown — Second Form: Abyssal Sovereign."

Rin's eyes widened in awe.

Elion clapped a hand over his mouth.

Rokuro smiled knowingly.

Before they could celebrate, the cavern began to quake.

Rin:

"What now?!"

From the walls, glowing sigils ignited.

Rokuro froze.

Rokuro:

"…No.

Not them.

Not now."

Elion swallowed hard.

Elion:

"What race is it?"

Rokuro gripped his staff.

Rokuro:

"The Umbrakin.

Children of living shadow.

A race older than the moon.

Long asleep…

and now awakened by Rin's Eclipse aura."

Rin felt something stir behind him.

Something cold.

Something familiar.

A tall figure of shifting shadow rose from a pillar, its eyes like dying stars.

Umbrakin Shade:

"Moon-born child…

your heartbeat disturbed our slumber."

Rin's blood ran cold.

Nahara, Elion, and Rin stepped together—

united despite fear.

Rokuro planted his staff.

Rokuro:

"Prepare yourselves.

If the Umbrakin speak…

war is not far behind."
