Chapter 3 - Training(2)

Battleship graveyard, Marineford

"You want me to punch the ships until I what?"

Ramos stood facing the former Navy vessel, and rust and moss decorated the one powerful weapon.

"Your bones are still growing, so to make sure they grow strong, you'll punch these ships until you embed your fist in them."

"That's insane!"

"Oi, you said you wanted me to train to be strong so here's the best way, or you want to cut grass at the academy?"

Ramos gritted his teeth, balled his fist and turned to the ship and began punching it.

"Bang, bang, bang...crack."

The sound of his metacarpals fracturing sent his nerves on edge. Neglecting the pain he continued punching the metal until his fist shaped it.

"Don't forget strength is used to protect those who can't protect themselves. Hatred only leads to more suffering...even to those you never intended to harm."

His words echoed in Ramos's brain, he let out the anger he had for Roger onto the vessel. Hit after hit only made his arms shake and paint his knuckles with blood.

1 hour later...

By the shoreline of the island, Garp and his pupil stood looking at the waves. A rare moment of peace during their onslaught of training.

"Why are we observing the sea?"

Garp didn't respond instantly, he watched the sea before glancing at him."This is a crucial part of your training. In a world full of devil fruit users, your one advantage is the great blue sea."

"...Isn't that why we have ships?"

"You idiotic brat! I'm talking about swimming brat, SWIMMING!" The old Marine barked.

"I don't know how to swim."

"Then learn fast." He grabbed the boy by the collar of his shirt and swung him into the ocean.

"Aaaaah–You're insane!" Ramos yelled as he splashed into the water. "Blagh...I-I can't swim–help."

"Calm down, float on your stomach, kick your legs while pushing your arms forward. " Garp advised, no worry in his tone.

Ramos barely registered his voice as the waves thrashed him around like a rag doll, he struggled to keep his head afloat.'Focus damn it!' He thought.

Moving with a survival instinct, he began swimming through the harsh waves, the sea was ruthless in its motion, adding the constant ache of his limbs, he powered through until he touched land.

"Congratulations on learning how to swim." Garp chuckled, looking at the slumped form of his student, completely drenched.

"I hate you."

"Do you want more love taps?"

"No."

"Bang!"

"Oww–I said no." He groaned, holding his bump.

"It's an affectionate brat." He said, turning around to walk off."Come on brat, let's go eat."

Ramos looked at the retreating form of his mentor, the anger in his heart was replaced by a warm feeling of familiarity. "W-Wait for me." He ran after him, all the earlier meant nothing.

"Haha –It's good you're enthusiastic about food, you need to eat a lot if you want to get stronger. He ruffled the boy's hair roughly.

"Hey! Stop ruining my hair with your gorilla hands." He complained but couldn't stop the smiling from growing.

The two walked off to the restaurants area in the city of justice.
