His words echoed in my ears as he pulled away from me without hesitation. "Wait for me. I'll be right back."
Augusto dressed with mechanical efficiency, his movements sharp and urgent. He didn't spare me a single glance as he rushed toward the door, leaving me behind like I was nothing more than furniture in the room.
The door slammed shut, and silence crashed over me like a wave.
The rumpled sheets, the intimate warmth still lingering in the air, the tender marks scattered across my skin - everything seemed to mock my foolishness. My chest tightened with a familiar ache, and tears threatened to spill over, blurring my vision until the room's lights became nothing but hazy orbs.
I forced myself to breathe deeply, pushing the tears back down. Of course his heart belonged to Ashley. I knew that. I had always known that. So why did he insist on me carrying his child when he loved someone else so completely?
