"You have a daddy?"
"But my mommy said you're never having a daddy."
"My daddy said your mommy is a single mother and being a single mother is bad."
The morning, which had been slow and orderly, erupted as the children stopped moving toward their classrooms and crowded around Finn and Rhys.
Finn glanced at them, shrinking back uncomfortably at their closeness.
Seeing him struggle, Rhys stepped in front of him.
Rhys had a reputation for being confrontational and stubborn, so when the other kids saw him move forward, they assumed he was offended and instinctively stepped back as well.
When Finn stopped cowering, Rhys knew that was enough and stopped moving.
Then he parted his lips to give a general answer to their questions.
"What does it matter? My brother says I have a daddy now!"
The kids glanced at each other skeptically then returned their eyes back to the twins.
"But we've never seen him before. How can that be possible if we've never seen him?"
