At midnight, a man is walking in the cemetery, carrying a shovel in his arm, searching for a
particular grave. After a while deep into the cemetery he stops before a grave, the tombstone
reads "Donna Grimes." He forced the shovel into the mud, pushed down with his foot, leaning
forward he tilted the handle back towards himself, then he lifted the shovel and threw the soil to
the side.
He keeps going at it.
Dig… Dig… Dig… Dig…
After digging for a long while, he hears the sound of coffin wood. He slowly opens the coffin lid.
He looks at the rotting corpse inside, then starts gently shaking by the shoulder while whispering
"Momma… Momma… Momma… Momma…"
The corpse gently opens its rotting eyes, looking at the man, she utters
"A… A… Alberrrt…"
Raising her hand she places her palm on the man's face.
"Albert, my dear," she speaks softly. Tears well up in their eyes. She sits up with great difficulty.
Hugging her beloved son. Drops of tears fell down their eyes. After a long warm hug, he lends a
hand to help his mother stand up and get out of the casket. Then he speaks:
"Momma, let me close the lid off, fill it in, then we will go back home."
"Oh my dear, let me help you, son. Somebody might see us."
"You don't need to help, Momma, for I am capable of doing it myself. You go guard the gate and
see whether anyone is coming, signal me if you see someone. And we should flee at once if we
catch the sight of anyone."
His mother walks up to the gate to keep an eye while Albert closes the lid off and begins to fill in
the grave. Filling in was a lot faster than digging up. After finishing up, they leave the cemetery,
with him still carrying the shovel in his arm. They reach a tiny tin shed.
"O Albert! Are we to spend the rest of the night here? You know about my arthritis. I can't live in
cold places. Can't we just head straight home?" said his mother.
It was a tin shed with one room on the inside and a toilet on the outside. You can't go to the
toilet directly from inside, although it's pretty close, it isn't attached, to be exact.
"Mother, I've lost our house in debt, Julie and the kids couldn't possibly live in this hardship, so
I've sent them to her father's place. However, you oughtn't to worry as I have some great
investments and I expect to achieve a great return in a week or so, we should be able to get our
home back in no time" explained
Albert.
Inside the room there was a double bed. All the kitchen utensils are on the opposite corner with
a gas stove, a tiny table with a chair, a study table with a table lamp and another chair. Albert
turned the light on. "Do you want to eat anything mamma?" asked Albert. She was still
observing the surroundings with an astonished face. "O yes; I feel so hungry I could eat a
horse."
Albert warmed up some stew from before, and placed the stew pot and rye bread on the tiny
table and placed the chair from the study table to the tiny table in front of the other chair. They
sat down and had their food. Albert was pretty hungry from all that digging as well. Fortunately,
he had enough for both of them to eat until their stomachs were full. After finishing their dinner
they both went to sleep under the cotton blanket. His mother put her fingers through Albert's hair
as he felt like he had returned to his childhood.
[Author's note: I won't tell how he got his
powers. I don't think that's important.
What is important is how he would use it. but I do intend to explain how his power works, well
the basic premise of his power is that he shares his life span. For example if keeps his moms
corpse alive for one day he would lose two days from his lifespan]
