Chapter 7 - CHAPTER SEVEN

LUCY POV

I grumbled, tossed a bit before opening my eyes. The ray from the sun made me squint my eyes.

Slowly, I sat up and looked around the room. There was no trace of Will in the room. He surprised me, though.

I didn't expect him to leave me on the couch, but I'm not complaining. No matter what happens, I have a wall to protect. The boundary between us.

Although I came to sleep in his room not because I craved him or anything but because I was scared of sleeping alone.

Removing the duvet from my body, I wore my slippers and immediately, the door opened, and he walked in. Dressed in black and it made my skin crawl.

He didn't seem like the Will I know. He was more of a stranger. The surrounding aura was cold, thick and dark.

I felt smaller under the weight of his presence. He closed the door and came forward but stood at a respectful distance.

Then it hit me. It was faint, but still it was there. I perceived it. The metallic stench of blood. My stomach churned.

He said nothing to me. Instead, he removed his face cap, and his hooded gaze landed on me. I don't think I've ever seen him like this. His eyes were void of emotion.

My heart raced erratically. Unable to hold his gaze any longer, I diverted mine. I wasn't scared of him, but I was uncomfortable as hell.

Still worried, I opened my mouth to talk, but the words stuck in my throat. I closed my eyes as I tried to steady my breath.

"Spill it," he groaned. My eyes snapped at him, and he sat on the bed, staring at me. His arms folded.

Minutes passed, but I couldn't get the words out, and he furrowed his eyebrow, enjoying my stupidity.

"You didn't sleep... sleep here," I stuttered.

"Why should I? You're still my boss," I replied in a flat voice.

I bit my lower lip to stop me from lashing out. Oh, so now he remembers that I'm his boss. Is he kidding me?

"So why did you let me in?" I asked.

He pinched the bridge of his nose, looking bored. "I was obviously doing my work. You needed protection"

Thinking about it, I do need protection against him.

"From how you were dressed, it seemed you were out," I blurted out before I could stop myself.

My hands itched for me to slap myself for being so silly.

"I believe whatever I do is none of your business. So you should stop being a gossip," he grunted.

Now that was it. My hands continue to itch, but this time, to slap Will for being an asshole.

I sprang to my feet. "It matters to me because you are meant to be protecting me. I don't pay you to be lazying around. And this would be the last time you disrespect me because it won't be funny," I seethed.

His eyes darkened, obviously because he doesn't like it when I talk to him. I'm not used to talking to him like this either.

"The last time I checked, Grey gave me the job," he said

"My husband and I make the decisions together, and we pay you for your services. You need the money"

Laughter tore from his lips, and clapped his hands. The laughter was more of a mockery. "Do I really need the money?" He asked.

Cat caught my throat because his question left me speechless. Aside from being my bodyguard, I don't remember Will doing any other side jobs.

"Answer me," his voice boomed, startling me. How did he get so close to me? Instinctively, I moved back.

"Leave," he ordered, and my body obeyed without question, conflicting my internal resistance.

With every step that I took, my thoughts spiraled. My heart raced against my chest. Goosebumps filled my skin.

I don't know if I'm being delusional, but something has changed about Will. I can't place my hand on whatever it is, but my stomach is flipped.

Unless Will has been pretending all along, which I don't think so, currently he seems bipolar.

I winced as pain shot up from my leg. I crouched as I held my toe. Gosh, I was so distracted that I didn't realize when I missed a step.

Soon, I limped to my room and headed to the bathroom and turned on the shower. A deep sigh escaped my lips as the cold water trickled down my skin.

The longer I stood, the more the pain worsened. I walked out from the dressing room, wearing a knee-length floral dress, with spaghetti straps and packed my hair in a sleek bun.

My phone buzzed. I picked it and rolled my eyes at the name that popped up.

My dear husband finally remembered to call the wife he abandoned in the middle of nowhere.

I refused to click the answer icon. He doesn't know the woman he married. If he thinks I'm a pushover, he has something else coming.

'As if you're not a sulker for your bodyguard,' my inner bitch mocked me.

The phone started to ring again, and it was beginning to annoy me. I swiped the screen and his annoying voice boomed so loud that my eardrum ached.

"Are you seriously asleep at this time of the day? What kind of wife are you?" He hissed.

I opened my mouth to fire him back when he cut me off. "Pack your bags, Will is bringing you back to America" he announced

"What do you mean by that? You left me here all alone, and now you want me to leave you alone?" I frown, my teeth gritted.

"Listen, I don't have time for all this drama. The orders came directly from my father that we cut the duration of the honeymoon" he replied nonchalantly.

"What has your father got to do with our honeymoon and what happened that demands my presence?"

"Don't try to make yourself relevant. Also, you should learn to listen sometimes. I have informed Will," he added and the line dropped on me.

I desperately need someone to explain what was going on. First, Will spent the night out and came back as a different person now my husband and father-in-law are raving mad.

Cullen was absent during my engagement. He claimed he had something to do. His son followed in his steps, claiming he had something to do.

Now they want me to be obedient and return like nothing has happened? Could my life get anything worse?

I winced as I paced back and forth, my hands on my hips. My muscles were tense, my fists were clenched, so tight that my veins popped.

To make things worse, Will agreed to me to be tossed around like some piece of trash.

Someone knocked once and, before I could grant permission, the door opened revealing the devil himself.

"Have you packed your bags?" He asked, looking around.

"So you think it's nice to invade my privacy and not apologize?" I stared at him bewildered.

"I knocked, and besides you were not naked, so.." he shrugged

My jaw dropped. What an asshole!

"Get your things together. Let's get moving," he said.

"Why did you agree to whatever it was Grey told you?" I snapped, unable to keep it in any longer.

A sly smirk crept onto his face. "I see you don't want to part ways with me. Don't worry, I'm not leaving you, and I promise a thrill filled experience," he said. His tone, a bit.

He walked away and began to pack my stuff. Am I in my head again? Because to me it seems like Will is excited to return, like he had been waiting for things for a long time.

I'm not going crazy, right?
