Veronica's POV
My sharp voice cut through the room, making everyone flinch.
"Quicklime? What do you mean?" Caspian asked, clearly bewildered.
I grabbed the urn and shoved it toward his face.
"Look at this! Are these my mother's ashes? No—it's quicklime! How could you be so cruel? You couldn't even leave her remains alone? What kind of monster are you?"
Fury consumed me, and I hurled the quicklime directly at Caspian.
He threw up his arm defensively, protecting his face while white powder coated his clothes.
The harsh, burning smell confirmed what I already knew—this was definitely quicklime.
"This can't be right! How is this quicklime?"
Caspian stuttered, genuine shock written across his features.
"Veronica, why would I replace Ruth's ashes? I picked up the urn from the funeral home and took it straight to the columbarium. I never touched the seal!"
