When the image appeared on the screen, Hitomi and Kasumi flinched in amazement and exclaimed in surprise:
"What is this?!"
"What the…?"
"Don't be scared—it's a television. In the near future we'll have one just like it at home," Kenshin said with a smile, hugging both beauties. Based on his understanding of the "Create Refuge" ability he knew advanced entertainment methods like television or music would appear sooner or later. He couldn't wait to show the girls his favorite movies—so he planned to invest the next skill point in this skill.
"God—what a miracle… Like a person trapped behind glass…" Kasumi whispered, stepping closer. Kenshin's words worked flawlessly on them; the two curious cats instantly relaxed.
Noticing everything on screen had become serious, Kasumi and Hitomi focused all attention on the image and saw a strange-looking man with orange hair effortlessly slaughtering a Konoha scout group.
"Ah! What scoundrel dared destroy a Konoha shinobi squad right at the village gates? Is he suicidal?" Kasumi exclaimed angrily. Though she no longer belonged to Konoha's shinobi, she still had very warm feelings toward her home village.
Hitomi wisely stayed silent. Something in this shinobi's eyes terrified her. She didn't understand what was wrong with his eyes but was very perceptive and knew he was far from ordinary.
Suddenly the frame changed; six more figures appeared in identical black cloaks with red clouds—making Kasumi's confidence waver slightly. She began suspecting not everything was simple and Kenshin wouldn't show them this fragment without reason.
When the girl with metal spikes in her face was thrown into Konoha and summoned the others, Kasumi's heart skipped a beat. Though everything was drawn and ridiculous, she perfectly recognized hand seals and forehead protectors on the shinobi.
"What scum from the Rain village?!" Kasumi snorted, fearing for her former village's fate.
The picture changed again; all enemy shinobi scattered instantly—seeding chaos and destruction.
"Ah! Where's Anbu looking—and Lord Hiruzen personally!" Kasumi fumed seeing the damage caused.
Suddenly a young man with hair tied in a large ponytail appeared in frame—saving a woman from a giant centipede attack then piercing it with shadows.
"Good—the Nara clan isn't sleeping! Who is this shinobi?" she asked Kenshin joyfully—proud of her clan.
"That's Shikamaru."
"WHAT?! Little Shikamaru?!" she exclaimed surprised. The young man on screen only slightly resembled the bratty kid she often saw. Besides drawn characters differed greatly from real people—so Kasumi was shocked learning the truth.
Kenshin decided to stay silent until they watched to the end. His memories were still incomplete; many "unimportant" moments forgotten—so in literally ten minutes they watched everything up to Pain rising high above the village and using great "Shinra Tensei."
"God—no!" Kasumi exclaimed. Tears flowed from her eyes seeing the huge invisible wave sweeping everything away.
"Lady Tsunade!" Hitomi cried noticing the woman she practically idolized. Seeing Senju Tsunade's state after protecting huge numbers of villagers Hitomi couldn't hold back tears.
"Where's Hiruzen? Where's Jiraiya? Where's Danzo? Where are Shikaku and Hiashi?! Why when the village is in trouble is there no one to protect it?!" Kasumi cried in absolute rage at everything happening.
"Hiruzen and Jiraiya are dead. Danzo is waiting for Tsunade to die and free the Hokage position. Shikaku and Hiashi—unknown where. In this story they're somehow unremarkable figures," Kenshin replied—seeing shockock mixed with disbelief on both girls' faces.
"This can't be!" Kasumi exclaimed—worried for her Nara clan. Though in conflict between Nakayama family and Nara clan she would without hesitation choose her beloved family—the black-haired kunoichi still harbored some warm feelings toward her birth clan and village.
Then Naruto appeared pompously on a huge toad and a fight ensued in which the Nine-Tails jinchuriki successfully held off Pain's six bodies for some time. Both girls watched breathlessly. What happened on screen was so inconceivable they flinched fearfully when the most dangerous techniques flew straight at the "camera." Kenshin had long materialized three chairs—sitting the beauties left and right and taking the middle himself, hugging both by the waist.
When Naruto was pinned to the ground by long spikes the girls sighed sorrowfully—until a beautiful black-haired girl with Byakugan appeared in frame.
"Ah—Hyuga clan child—run away!" Hitomi exclaimed feeling pity for a distant relative. She noticed the girl's open forehead without slave seal.
"Main branch child? Who is she?" Hitomi asked surprised.
"Hyuga Hinata—Hiashi's daughter," Kenshin replied.
"Ah! Princess Hinata…" Hitomi whispered—worrying even more against common sense. She had seen this girl only a few times at major Hyuga clan festivals and for some reason little Hinata didn't evoke the hatred Hitomi felt toward her father.
When two blue lion-headed mists appeared on Hinata's hands and she successfully fought Pain, Hitomi and Kasumi held their breath in amazement—until instead of attacking the enemy she began breaking spikes from Naruto's body.
Pain easily suppressed Hinata—sending her high into the air then pulling her down. Hitomi couldn't hold back tears seeing a girl from her former clan pierced cruelly by a huge spike.
"God—what monsters are these? Why can't anyone defeat them?" Kasumi asked while her best friend cried burying herself in Kenshin's shoulder.
"This is Pain. Six bodies are practically immortal. They share one vision and are controlled by one person," Kenshin replied—stroking his fourth wife.
Events on screen changed again; both girls focused on the incredible release of the tailed beast. Naruto was furious—no longer restraining the Nine-Tails, instantly gaining the fox cloak and breaking spikes.
