Chapter 29 - I Still Know Your Wife

When dawn broke, Sun Zhewen felt like his right arm wasn't his own; it was completely numb. He quietly pulled his arm away, preparing to get up for work. Li Zhiyan, half-asleep, reached out and hugged him, saying, "Don't go."

Sun Zhewen frowned, "I need to go to work."

Li Zhiyan mumbled in a daze, "Alright, go then."

Sun Zhewen softly asked, "Are you still in pain?"

Li Zhiyan woke up, took a deep breath, "It's better. You go to work. I also need to go to work."

Sun Zhewen frowned, "How can you go to work in this state?"

Li Zhiyan smiled helplessly, "I have to go talk to his cousin today, otherwise, if they keep treating me like this, I'll be ruined."

Sun Zhewen nodded, "Oh, okay, be careful."

Li Zhiyan suddenly thought of something and asked, "When are your parents coming?"

Sun Zhewen thought for a moment, "It should be tomorrow."

Li Zhiyan frowned. "Then I'll be at home tomorrow. I'll go pick them up."

Sun Zhewen shook his head. "No need, I'll pick them up."

Li Zhiyan insisted, "Who's more convenient, you or me? That's settled then, I'll go tomorrow."

Sun Zhewen smiled helplessly. "Alright, but you should try to refuse them in the future. You're suffering too much."

Li Zhiyan nodded. "Okay, be safe."

After leaving the house, Sun Zhewen remembered that he'd forgotten to tell Li Zhiyan last night to find a way for Chen Qingyan and to have Chairman Wang hold off for a while. So, he quickly took out his phone and dialed Li Zhiyan's number. Li Zhiyan's lazy voice came from the other end, "Hello, who is it?"

"Zhiyan, it's me, Sun Zhewen," Sun Zhewen said quickly. "There's something I need you to help your sister with. I don't know if you have any connections, but could you get Chairman Wang of the Provincial Women's Federation to not come to Jiang City? If that's not possible, even postponing the visit would be fine."

Li Zhiyan was taken aback for a moment, then smiled. "Okay, I understand. I'll do my best. It's probably doable."

"Thank you," Sun Zhewen sighed in relief.

"Silly, this is for my sister. Why are you thanking me?" Li Zhiyan chided, her tone laced with affection.

After hanging up the phone, Sun Zhewen felt a little more at ease. He quickened his pace, heading to his workplace. As soon as he arrived, Fang Ping hurried over to find him, panting, "Xiao Sun, Chairman Liu wants you to go see her as soon as you get here."

"Alright, I'll go right away," Sun Zhewen nodded, a little apprehensive.

He went to the chairman's office and knocked on the door. "Chairman Liu?"

"Come in," Liu Ruyue's voice came from inside.

Sun Zhewen pushed open the door and saw Liu Ruyue sitting behind her desk, her expression serious. She looked up at him and asked, "Have you told Secretary Chen about this?"

"Secretary Chen? Chen Qingyan?" Sun Zhewen was a bit puzzled.

"Yes," Liu Ruyue nodded.

"I have, but the main thing is that if the provincial leaders don't come, everything will be fine. If they do, it'll be a big problem. After all, no matter how fast the treatment is, it won't be effective in the short term," Sun Zhewen explained.

Liu Ruyue frowned, thought for a moment, and said, "Well, I think you should remind her. If this thing blows up, she'll be the first to take the hit. Then there's me. She and I are now in the same boat. Neither of us can escape. So while I'm looking for connections, she also needs to take action, or we'll both die."

"Chairman Liu, it hasn't come to that point yet, has it?" Sun Zhewen asked with some concern.

"It hasn't yet, but if she doesn't put in the effort, I think it will become a reality soon," Liu Ruyue said calmly.

Sun Zhewen stood by the window, the sunlight spilling onto his face, outlining a slightly tired face. He took a deep breath, turned, and walked towards the desk, still replaying the conversation in his mind. Liu Ruyue, this woman was really not simple. Her smile seemed to be able to easily solve all the problems.

"She didn't tell me any of that, but I think she'll do her best," Sun Zhewen said, trying to keep his voice calm.

"That's good. If she takes the initiative, you won't have to tell her what I just said," Liu Ruyue nodded, a slight smile playing on her lips. The smile held a hint of cunning and confidence, making it impossible not to be influenced by her aura.

Sun Zhewen secretly admired this woman. It was no wonder she got promoted; she was too good at handling things and knew the ins and outs of everything. He heard she was the daughter of a high-ranking official in the province, but none of the top twenty officials had the surname Liu. He tried hard to recall the list of high-ranking officials, but he couldn't find the answer.

Back in the office, he sat in his chair, hands crossed in front of his chest, and pondered for a moment. Then, he picked up his phone and sent Chen Qingyan a message: "I asked your cousin to help you find some connections to see if we can cancel Chairman Wang's trip to Jiang City, or at least postpone it. Also, Liu Ruyue wants you to find a way."

A few minutes later, his phone vibrated, and a message popped up on the screen: "Got it, love you, Zhewen."

Sun Zhewen couldn't help but smile when he saw the message, but he also felt a twinge of nervousness. He quickly replied: "Work hard, and don't do anything illegal."

"Got it, your wife knows these things," Chen Qingyan's message quickly replied, her tone playful.

Sun Zhewen stared at the message, his heart a little complicated. Wife? He didn't expect Chen Qingyan to say she was his wife, which both surprised and frightened him. If others saw it, he would be ruined. He quickly replied: "Okay, I'm working too. Remember to delete our messages. Don't let anyone see them."

"Mm-hmm," Chen Qingyan replied briefly.

Fang Ping came over again, "Sun, the Chairman is looking for you."

The people in the office had been seeing Liu Ruyue looking for Sun Zhewen and then him these past few days, and they were all letting their imaginations run wild. He quickly stood up and went to the Chairman's office.

He knocked on the door, "Chairman, you wanted to see me?"

"Come in."

He entered and saw Liu Ruyue packing things, "Go get the keys, we're going to the hospital."

"What's wrong? Did something happen?"

"No, the hospital just said they're doing the Induced Abortion today and wants us and the Public Security Bureau to go. They don't want to take responsibility."

Sun Zhewen picked up the keys from the table and went straight downstairs to the parking lot. He got into his car, turned on the radio, and the music began to play softly, trying to calm the turmoil in his heart.

A few minutes later, Liu Ruyue also came downstairs. She was wearing a simple professional outfit, a hint of worry on her face, but her eyes were filled with determination. She got into the car. Sun Zhewen smiled slightly, started the engine, and the car drove smoothly towards the hospital.
