Chapter 1 - Prelude:

Under the glittering stars of a calm, peaceful night, here I am again—still admiring you from afar, still waiting for you to come back, even though the chances of seeing you again feel impossibly small. Every bit of those foolish hopes I used to cling to… they're slowly dying, day by day.

Should I still hold on? Or let you go?

I can still vividly remember the last words you told me before you left.

"I promise, I'll come back."

Those were the words you said before flying to America to study Law—your childhood dream, the one thing you always said you were meant for. You wanted to become a prosecutor ever since you were a kid.

Honestly? I'll admit it—he's a genius. Ever since we were young, I admired him quietly… because of that sharp mind of his. But not just that. He's kind, too. The type of man who would always put others before himself. A man full of passion and perseverance. Maybe that's what I liked most about him.

A bitter smile escapes my lips as the memories flood in.

I can feel my tears building up the moment I remember those days. I tried… really tried… not to break down again. I promised myself I wouldn't cry the moment he left.

But why does the pain still feel the same? Why does it hurt like hell even now?

The anger boils, the frustration stings, and the only thing I manage to do is scream—because of the wound he left in me.

"How can people be this cruel? Seriously, fuck them!"

The curse slips out before I can stop myself, followed by a hollow laugh—one that makes me sound insane. And honestly? If anyone saw me right now…

"Well, I don't fucking care."

I know him. I know him too well.

He's a man of his word. And I've always believed he'd return like he promised.

That's why until now… I'm still here, waiting.

Even if it's almost impossible.

But it seems like, this time… he failed me.

People change. So do their hearts, their minds… everything.

All I could do was let out a deep sigh.

Still… I hope—just once—life gives me the chance to see him again, even if it's for the last time.

I whisper that wish softly as I stare up at the night sky.
