Chapter 12 - Disarray

It felt like a blur, we were running down the hill, I looked back as our house lit up. A glistening yet smoldering flame consumed the home I once lived in. Tears rolled down my eyes as we ran. My parents ran alongside me. As long as we all lived it was fine.

Mother: We need to warn the villagers!

Father: No! Avery and our lives come first!

Mother: No! I'll go then to warn them, you take Avery to safety.

Father: Florence! Fine. I'll go! You take Avery to safety and I'll meet you guys in Aloa. Head there it will be safe.

Mother: Alright! Avery, come on.

Father: I love you Florence!

Mother: I love you too, Thomas.

Father diverged, cutting towards the town. My mother began to cry, tears rolling down her eyes. She gripped my hand tightly as we approached the forest. The forest was dark and thick so it was a good cover. It should help us escape.

Entering the forest I took one last look back. The village slowly burnt down, the bakery was up in flames. The blacksmith that me and my father went to had burnt over and the tent when I learned about my magical powers was turned into a crisp.

Wait! I forgot about that boy by the lake. I need to alert my mother, we can save him. I looked up at my mother as she kept running.

Avery: Mother! Stop! We need to head for the lake.

Mother: No! This isn't time to do magic!

Avery: There's a young boy at the lake, we can save him!

As I yelled at my mother I hit a root. The forest was covered in them, roots sticking out of the ground, low hanging branches. I had fallen over at a critical time like this. My mothers figure got further and further away. Eventually I managed to stand up, looking back I realised. Shit! I broke my foot. I need to get to that boy and meet up with my mother.

They mentioned Aloa, which should be straight from the lake. I slowly grabbed onto a tree, pulling myself up as I hopped towards the lake. The blue hue of the sun blaring on the lake shot past the thick branches as I arrived at the lake. The boy sat on a rock, patiently waiting.

Boy: Your back! Wait what happened to your foot?

Avery: We need to go! The village got attacked and the survivors are heading for Aloa!

Boy: Um, a-alright but what about your foot?

Avery: I'll have to tough it out for a bit.

Boy: You won't make it to Aloa like that!

Avery: Shut up! I need to! So stop ordering me around like a bossy woman and help me get there!

I had never yelled at anybody before, in this body and in my last life. I felt bad as the boy teared up, he burst out crying as I slumped backwards. That's when I realized something. He totally had tits what the hell! This so-called boy was not a boy.

Avery: W-what's your name?

Boy: You don't know? My name's Iris.

Boom! A massive explosion went off in my head. Of course! That's why this so-called boy looked super feminine and had long hair. Why did I think she was a boy? Get your orders straight! We need to find mother and reunite with the others.

Iris: We should wait out the night before heading for Aloa tomorrow.

Avery: No! What if they're in trouble we can't just abandon them.

Iris: But your foot!

Woman's Voice: I can help with that.

I turned around as a slim woman slipped out from behind a tree, her skin was as pale as the moon with long white hair that had a long strand strung across her face, resting across the right side of her nose. She wore a long elegant black dress that only rich nobles would even touch. She was extremely beautiful and had a body any man would die for.

Iris: Who are you?

Woman: Me? You can call me Cordella.

Avery: Cordella? How can you help?

Cordella: By healing that poor foot of yours.

Avery: You have Healing magic?

Cordella: Actually I have more than Healing magic. I can use all forms of magic.

Iris: Liar! Nobody can do that!

Cordella: Shut up you impudent fool!

Iris immediately went silent, she slowly backed away from Cordella as if she was scared of her. I turned back to Cordella who had a sinister smile on her face. It was cute yet unnerving at the same time.

Cordella: So that foot, let me heal it for you.

She slowly approached before bending down and placing her hand on my shoe, taking it off followed by my sock. She placed her hand on my foot, her hands were frozen. Chills went up my leg bone as if she was freezing it over. A jolt of iciness ran up my leg.

Suddenly a green blitz of energy flowed out of her hand slowly, feeding into my foot. I felt as the sharp pain in my foot faded. This was the power of healing magic! I lifted myself up and stood on it, completely fine. Holy fuck! That's totally useful.

Avery: Uh, thank you!

Cordella: No problem, but we should rest here for the night. That young girl, while having the wrong reasons, had the right intention.

Avery: What! No! We need to head for Aloa!

Cordella: Currently the Veronan soldiers have made their way towards Aloa and an all out brawl is going on there. Approaching it wouldn't be the smartest.

Her voice was soothing, calm yet devoid of emotion. Her words felt like a lullaby that could remove all my thoughts and worries. I abruptly calmed down staring into her black eyes. Not brown but a black. How strange. My eyes closed staring back into hers as I passed out.

I sat on the bridge once again. Every night I had the same dream. Sitting on this endless bridge staring out on the ocean, no matter what I did it would send me spiralling down into the water. But this time it was different. I turned back to see a man, he had long dark red hair. His eyes were a sharp yellow. He just looked at me before flicking his hand forward as I plummeted down into the water again.
