Chapter 26 - Begone, Evil!

The crew lands on Latuya and picks up Xita and Zarya and goes to Almatia.

There, they meet up with Vega and Kael.

"Hey, there! It's been a while!", says Kael excitedly, shaking Aeternum's hand.

"Hey, Kael, buddy! I agree, it has. How's Kephar? Is it getting better over there?", asks Aeternum.

Zarya hears their convo as Mailen and Rain talk with Vega, and joins in: "Is there a chance for me to visit Komara one more time, really quick?"

"Yes. I'll get my assistant, Mr. Nikola Falk", says Kael. Behind him, a person appears – tall but not as tall as Kael and Aeternum, glasses, short hair, looks like an older man.

"Hello there. I'm Mr. Kael's assistant. I am happy I get to meet you.", says Nikola.

"He was there as he saw you guys leave Kephar. He is excited for your return, if you ever come back.", says Kael, telling Zarya: "I can get you to Kephar for a day. The crew can rest for a bit. We will then drop you back in Almatia tomorrow, got it?"

"Understood. Thank you.", says Zarya.

Rain and Mailen say hi to Kael and Nikola before they leave with Zarya. Rain and Zarya hug each other before she leaves for Kephar for a day.

They watch as the Kepharian ships leave for Kephar.

"Well. The Driftspace is gone. But we should still prevent future cases, right? Is there any working anti-memetic virus?", asks Aeternum. Vega quickly points out that the UHC has been developing an anti-memetic cure for a month now, and that it could be put into use in a week.

"Enjoy your week, and we'll develop the cure. Feel free to contact your family, and so on. We'll contact you when the cure is deployed publicly", says Vega.

Asten comes up and mentions that "Almatia is happy the Thread is on their side."

"You guys have done a better job than the UHC. Thank you so much.", says Asten, tearing up, and shaking everyone's hands.

On Kephar, Kael personally escorts Zarya into Komara, and onto "Korin", her home village, now mostly abandoned.

"It's been several months since I've been here. Mom, dad, I miss you.", says Zarya.

She walks into a graveyard and sees two tombs.

"Here lies Mikhail Lunov" / "Here lies Irina Lunova"

She takes a flower that she found on Almatia when they arrived, and places it on their grave.

"This flower is a sign of longevity. Mother, I believe you would've enjoyed watering it in our beautiful garden.", says Zarya, trying not to sob. "The war is over. If it weren't for those monsters 10 years ago… You would've seen how your chaotic daughter grew."

"I'm not saying I'm unhappy, but the opposite. I met a crew that accepts me for who I am. They love my chaotic insane side… You would love them, father. They love fighting as much as you do. Happy birthday though. You would be 39 today.""

Zarya is fully alone with nobody around her. However, a sound is made. Something's nearby.

Zarya quickly grabs a weapon from her purse and checks nearby corners. Nothing.

A monster quickly jumps her, but thanks to her quick reflexes, she stabs the monster in the stomach and kills it.

"This village is still filled with filth. Ugh.", says Zarya, fully emotionless. Since her parents' deaths, she has always been alone.

"Korin… my childhood. My first love, my first game, my first enjoyment in this place. All gone, thanks to these monsters. Only residing in my head now. I need to go back to the Thread.", adds Zarya inside her head.

Zarya calls Kael and says she has enjoyed Komara but must leave prematurely. Kael notices that and allows her to leave.

Zarya teleports to the Thread's Almatian base via waypoints.

Rain sees her there, with her eyes watery.

"Zarya? Are you okay?", says Rain.

"I visited my old village. It's in ruins. I visited my parents' grave and vented. I am fine though.", says Zarya, rubbing her eyes and wiping tears.

Rain hugs Zarya tightly. "It's okay. I know how you feel. You're in safe hands."

Zarya leaves the hug and thanks Rain. She goes to take a nap.

A few days later, the crew receives a call from Asten.

"Hey there, weavers! Vega and I are calling to let you know that the cure is ready for deployment!", says Asten excitedly.

Zarya, now back to normal, jumps excitedly. Rain is happy, and Mailen and Aeternum, playing chess, are hearing the news and smiling.

"After several months. Our mission on Almatia is finished. Let's enjoy a few more days, to see it prosper.", says Mailen. "I'm proud of us."
