Chapter 3 - Chapter No.3: Aftermath Of A Decision

After the race, the first three drivers, Gilles, Jim and Jacques, are celebrating and spraying champaigne at each other on the podium. Gilles then invites his wife Joann to come with their kids on the podium, he then caresses heads of the kids and in a tight hug kisses Joann. Jim and Jacques just look at each other and smirk after seeing what has just happened.

When the whole celebrations ended, Gilles drives his family home in his pick-up, he unlocks the front door and everything seems normal, just a normal average day after race.

"Ah! I must admit Gilles, watching you race, win championship and everything was nice, but returning back home into warm from the cold outside curciuts is always the best of the day," she says with a slight chuckle.

"So does it mean dad is the best in the world now?" Asks little Jacques his mother.

"It seems that yes, he is, darling. But for me he always was the best in the world, right Gilles?" She answers her son and looks at her husband.

As Gilles watches her, he suddenly starts to feel guilty and decides to confess her with something: "When we are talking about this warm house Joann, I have to tell you something."

"And what is that, Gilles?"

"Well, I don't actually know how to say it, I... have sold our house."

Joann chuckles and says: "You are joking, right Gilles? Right?"

Gilles just gives her a serious look filled with a hint of huge guilt.

Joann then sends the kids to go to their room and after they leave she starts talking again: "But why? Why would you do that? We don't have much money yes, but... was it really neccessary?"

She sighs, "Just... why?And why didn't you at least talk with me about it?" her tone of voice high, not from a frustration, more like a concern and a hint of fear of an unknown future.

"I honestly don't know... was propably an act of affect and enthusiasm so I didn't even think about reasonable things much, I'm... sorry." in his face expression and tone of his voice is the feeling of guilt very noticable that even Joann doesn't want to rage at him or anything, she just wants to understand.

"But why did you do it? And I still don't understand all these words about affect and enthusiasm. What happened? It does have to do something with racing, right? Please just tell me the truth, I'll try to understand."

Gilles just nods and doesn't say anything for a while, then says: "I bought a ride in a Formula Atlantic."

"A Formula... Atlantic?"

"Yes."

She starts nodding before talking: "So will you at least make some money from it? All the money you earned from snocross racing were also put into formula racing as well and you haven't earned any money from it! And now we will need money to live somewhere and I can't work more and take care of the kids!"

"I know. If I will be good then yeah, I will make money."

"I see, so if you will be good. Was this all really worth the risk?"

"I guess we are going to find out... but at least I'll be a bit closer to Formula One when fate plays out well, where the money will be almost certain."

"If the fate plays good?"

"Y-yes."

"How big chance is that?"

"I... I don't know, Joann, I start to doubt my decision honestly," chuckles nervously.

"Well that's a bit too late for such emotions," she looks at him, seeing his bad emotional state "but I will support you, no matter what."

"Thanks, Joann. I'm sorry to drag you into this mess."

"It's okay, just promise me something!"

"I'll do anything for you."

"Be succesful!" she says with a smile on her face to cheer Gilles up at least a bit.

He then smiles too before he talks again: "Don't worry, I will. To help you, to help us. I am going to look for sponsors right tomorrow to secure some money."

"I love you, Gilles."

"I love you too, Joann." after this endearment they press their foreheads against each other and then kiss.
