Chapter 121 - Soul Descent, King of Fear

Watching Magneto's retreating figure, Wanda closed her eyes, heartbroken. For her, it was the shattering of a naive dream. The father figure she'd longed for was completely destroyed the moment Magneto turned away.

She chose not to cry, because it wasn't worth it. She silently used her abilities, desperately trying to sustain the life of her only remaining family member. But this was a drop in the bucket, a healing method that wouldn't last. When her power ran out, Quicksilver would die. Wanda understood this, so she promptly turned to Zhou Yi for help.

"Help me, Dawn Knight. Save my brother!"

"How can I help?" Zhou Yi used his Divine Authority, the power of Solar Blessing, on Logan and Mystique. But it had the same effect as on Quicksilver. Although it temporarily restored them to a normal state, they inevitably deteriorated again the next moment.

This almost unsolvable problem left him helpless. Faced with Wanda's plea, he could only sigh in despair.

But Wanda didn't think so. In her eyes, Zhou Yi was the only person capable of solving this problem. She waved her hands, and her Chaos Magic enveloped the bodies of all three, repairing their bodies and sustaining their lives. Although only temporarily, it freed up Zhou Yi's hands.

"I can feel it, Dawn Knight," Scarlet Witch said, staring intently into the depths of the base. "Their souls are not here. Something is using a strange power to take their souls to another world. Their souls are constantly being harmed, and this damage is reflected in reality, causing everything we see. To save them, we must save their souls."

"Souls?" Zhou Yi savored the word, something only understood through mysticism. Although he had once ventured into the realm of the dead alone, he was still ignorant about souls. As the highest-ranking god in the mystical realm, he was still as blank as a sheet of paper. Experience couldn't fill this void; a lack of divine knowledge was his greatest weakness.

"What should I do?" In this situation, he could only turn to Wanda for help. He guessed that since Wanda was asking for his assistance, she naturally knew how he could help her.

"Go in this direction. I can feel the source of the power there. You must defeat him; we don't have much time."

Following Wanda's direction, Zhou Yi began to sprint. The air pressure sent many soldiers standing still flying, but not a single one made a sound. Just as Wanda had said, their souls had fallen into another world. Therefore, what remained were just walking corpses.

Or perhaps, these people were already dead. Not everyone was fortunate enough to have someone like Zhou Yi or Scarlet Witch go to great lengths to save them. Everything their souls had experienced could have been enough to kill them on a physical level.

Fortunately, these people deserved to die. Their evil deeds were enough for them to enjoy plenty of special services in hell. Therefore, Zhou Yi, of course, wouldn't have any sympathy or other feelings for these people.

He just rushed through the crowd, guided by an indescribable intuition, passing through one corridor after another, turning one corner after another. Finally, he stopped in front of a sealed door.

Several soldiers with cutting tools were still standing in front of the steel-welded door, but they no longer had the chance to open it. Because they had turned into withered, dried corpses, as if they had been scorched by fire, their entire bodies were charred into a mass that was difficult to identify.

However, the tools in their hands, and the clothes they wore, were completely intact. The reality that ordinary people couldn't understand at all was the unfathomable power of the mysterious side.

Zhou Yi grabbed a document from the body of a soldier in a white lab coat and quickly flipped through it. He found it was a mutant record. After reading the file, Zhou Yi finally understood what had happened here.

Erisa Otis, a mutant girl whose abilities weren't strong but were very strange. Although her ability level was only three, the role she played was immeasurable. Her ability was called Soul Descent. It could summon the souls of the deceased or other beings onto herself, and it was uncontrollable and irreversible.

In the beginning, her ability only attracted some ordinary spirits. These spirits had no great power besides some slight supernatural elements. Therefore, the supernatural phenomena on her only made her parents feel strange. They brought in a few exorcists, who dispelled the souls that had descended upon her, and that was the end of it.

Until a terrifying soul descended upon her.

This terrifying soul possessed unimaginable power. In just one night, she caused all living things in a small town to fall into eternal silence. The government discovered this town that had become a dead zone, and they also discovered this surviving little girl. But they couldn't do anything. Any life that entered this town would quickly die, and they died inexplicably, leaving everyone who knew about it clueless.

Until Stryker's department took over here. After paying the price of many subordinates' lives, he finally figured out the general situation and captured the sleeping Erisa with a hypnotic gas that permeated the entire town.

Stryker regarded Erisa as an excellent experimental subject and brought the possessed girl back to the base. But he didn't expect that because of this, he almost destroyed his life's work.

Almost all the soldiers and most of the mutants fell into this state of death. The entire base almost fell into paralysis. In the end, Stryker, who was immune to any mental attacks, had to use sleeping agents to put her into a long-term hibernation, which allowed the base to return to normal.

Unable to bear the thought of destroying such precious material, Stryker ultimately decided to seal her away completely. He would wait until the time was right, or until the descending soul left on its own before activating this material. He held onto this idea for a long time, but the descending soul's patience exceeded his expectations. Every year, he would cautiously test, but each time, it only resulted in the waste of a few lives, without any other effect.

It wasn't until now, the most critical moment of Stryker's life, that he decided to release this terrifying destroyer.

After reading the orders signed by Stryker in his hand, Zhou Yi shifted his gaze to the door in front of him.

Stryker's base used an unknown material that rendered Zhou Yi's super vision useless, making it impossible to see what was behind the door. However, his intuition, coming from a god, told him that there was a terrifying being behind the door. This being was similar to a god.

The welded steel door couldn't stop him. With a gentle push, the heavy steel twisted and deformed like a pile of mud bricks. He stepped through the damaged door and entered the prison that held the demon.

The steel walls were cold enough to make one shiver. The empty cell was filled with cold mist. Darkness permeated everywhere, and the person he was looking for was curled up in the darkest corner, shivering, looking pitiful and harmless.

It was a girl who looked to be only about a dozen years old, thin and dirty, looking even worse than a street beggar. But she was enough to make anyone who knew her feel fear, not of her, but of the being within her body. The one who created death and fear.

Walking straight ahead, Zhou Yi's footsteps startled the shrinking girl. She raised her head and, through her tangled, greasy hair, saw the yellow, snake-like vertical pupils.

"King of Light, you dare to appear before me. Who sent you to gaze into the most terrifying abyss?"

A strange, echoing whisper resonated in Zhou Yi's ears, like a malevolent echo from a shadowy lair. It was the most wicked language and sound, capable of driving anyone who heard it mad and turning them to darkness. Just hearing the voice made Zhou Yi instinctively uneasy, as if he were facing a natural enemy.

"Who are you?" Zhou Yi stared intently at the girl before him, as if facing a great enemy. Golden flames had already ignited on his body; this Solar Blessing should have been the hottest, brightest flame. Yet, it couldn't dispel the cold or illuminate the darkness here. Darkness and light confronted each other so starkly, like the myths and legends told throughout history.

"Who am I?" Layers of voices intertwined, emerging from her throat. Her frail body slowly stood up, leaning against the corner. Although she looked fragile, the shadow behind her was constantly rising and growing, forming a grim and terrifying silhouette.

"I am the master of the abyss, the reaper of souls, the giver of all darkness and pain. I am the shadow of death, the embodiment of emptiness. I am—Erdiaboloz, King of Fear!"

As she spoke her name, Zhou Yi's Divine Authority erupted, and golden flames soared into the sky, nearly burning through everything that stood in its way. Under the illumination of the flames, the densest darkness began to gather on Erisa. A vague shadow gradually revealed its true form. It was the image of the most real and most powerful demon, as imagined in everyone's heart.

Grim horns intertwined on his head in layers, their sharp tips flashing with a grayish-green luster, as if infused with a terrifying venom. Three pairs of small eyes were scattered across his scaly face, and the yellow vertical pupils revealed not only malice, but also scarlet flames.

A forked tongue, like that of a venomous snake, constantly flicked within a mouth full of sharp teeth, and thick green saliva trickled down his wide mouth. A pungent stench was barely perceptible.

The massive body, resembling that of a giant, was covered in dark red scales. Black, matted fur grew between the scales, making him look grotesque and terrifying. Six enormous arms extended from his dreadful body, each one covered in barbs, with sharp claws that were more lethal than any dagger.

And on his back, a pair of enormous bat-like wings were folded. Each bone joint on those wings sprouted bone spurs like sharp swords, and as the wings trembled, these bone spurs made a sparse clattering sound. It was like bone colliding with bone, shattering.

His lower body was not that of a human's legs, but a serpent's tail. On both sides of the huge belly tail, things like the dorsal fins of fish grew, and at the end of his tail was a dragon-like head without eyes. This eyeless dragon always looked around, and thick green poisonous fire splashed bit by bit in its mouth.

As this image appeared, countless people's cries and screams suddenly appeared in Zhou Yi's ears. He saw countless pale undead prostrate at his feet, reaching out their arms to pull at his body, but they were always turned to ashes by the poisonous fire splashed out by the eyeless dragon at the tail.

At this moment, he believed his identity. A demon from the abyss, the King of Fear, Erdiaboloz.
