Chapter 47 - The Dawn of Destruction, The Duke's Vile Plan

Vileen was filled with regret. She regretted not noticing Light Axe's condition, regretted this bizarre hunt, and even regretted joining the Blood Clan Guard. There were many other things she regretted, but none of it mattered anymore. No one could buy a potion of regret in this world, not even vampires.

Light Axe was already holding Vileen by the neck, lifting her off the ground. With a sorrowful expression, Vileen called out to her former lover, hoping to bring back his sanity. But her lover would never respond to her again. A virus from an alien species had burned away Light Axe's brain, and Vileen no longer existed in his thoughts. The craving for blood had consumed his entire being.

His snarling mouth fell on Vileen's neck, just like their previous kisses, but this time, it brought not joy, but extreme pain. Not just physical pain, but also mental.

As a woman, there was nothing more painful than being killed by the one she loved. She didn't want this pain to continue, not for herself, nor for Light Axe.

So, as Light Axe greedily drank her blood, she didn't put up a futile struggle. Instead, she silently pressed the device in her hand.

It was the vampires' last line of defense, the control device for the ultraviolet optical bomb. These devices should have been deployed on the battlefield, but because of Light Axe's betrayal, they weren't where they should have been.

And what Vileen had to do was detonate them, turning everything into dust.

Using her last bit of strength, she touched Light Axe's cheek and spoke her final words in this world.

"Darling, if it's possible… let's be human in our next life."

The next moment, the clock hit zero. Endless light erupted, and in that light, Vileen and Light Axe's figures, locked in an embrace, turned to ash. The light continued to surge, flowing through the narrow castle corridor.

Reinhardt ripped off his earpiece. When he lost contact with Chuba and the others, a bad feeling had already begun to creep into his heart. Watching his guards fall back, as the other species tore through their last line of defense, his premonition grew stronger.

He instinctively turned to look at their master, the vampire duke. But there was nothing. The vampire duke had vanished long ago. All he could see was Snowman silently guarding the private elevator of Grand Baki Nos.

He knew Snowman's identity very well. He was Grand Baki Nos's warrior, loyal only to the vampire duke. Although they were both part of the Blood Clan Guard, the two didn't get along. Because Snowman wasn't his man at all; he was the vampire duke's confidant.

And now, Snowman's behavior proved it: the so-called vampire duke, Grand Baki Nos, had abandoned everyone loyal to him and fled alone.

This discovery made Reinhardt want to burst out laughing. He really thought everything he and his men had done was ridiculous. To bet everything on such a guy's empty words was simply foolish. He deserved to die.

However, Reinhardt didn't want to die just yet. He looked at Chad Norma and the other species under his command, who had almost breached the defenses, and sneered. He no longer intended to play along with this pair of bastard father and son.

Chad Norma had torn through all the defenses, but to his disappointment, Grand Baki Nos was no longer there. He had fled early in the fight, taking his beloved daughter with him.

This discovery nearly drove Chad Norma mad. He couldn't allow Grand Baki Nos to escape his long-planned revenge; he had to plunge the dagger of retribution into his heart before he left. Now, only a single warrior stood in his way.

Looking at the Snowman, who was as still as death, holding his longsword, Chad Norma revealed a cruel expression.

"Tear him to shreds." At his command, the mutants, like unleashed hounds, howled and charged towards the figure in front of the elevator.

The vampire duke used his fastest speed to head towards his hidden private hangar, but his aged body clearly couldn't achieve the agility of other vampires. His fastest speed was only about the same as a human's stroll.

At this moment, he was also quite resentful of his powerlessness, but this resentment had been around for quite some time. This was the price he needed to pay, he already had this awareness when he decided to forever occupy the throne of power, and he would still do it even if he could start over.

Researching the modification of vampire genes was only an effort he made to restore himself to his former glory after he had taken the throne.

He didn't do it for the future of vampires, as other vampires thought. Everything he did was actually only for himself.

In the face of death, he didn't hesitate to abandon the dreams he had woven. As long as he could live, he would still be the ruler of the vampires, and for him, nothing had really changed.

Suddenly, his steps came to an abrupt halt. Staring at the black figure that appeared before him, he gritted his teeth and shouted his name, "Dawn Knight!"

Yes, blocking his path was Zhou Yi. Just as Chad Norma couldn't allow Grand Baki Nos to escape, Zhou Yi didn't want to see such an antagonist leave the stage in this manner. So, he stood in his way.

"Go back, or come and die. Grand Baki Nos, you have no other options."

Grand Baki Nos glared fiercely at Zhou Yi, then turned to his daughter and said, "Nisha, stop him!"

Nisha was startled, looking at her father with disbelief. Even though she had discovered the truth, she still didn't want to admit it in her heart. It was because of that sliver of hope that she had remained silent after returning to her father's side.

But now, her father, the vampire duke Elida, Grand Baki Nos, had personally destroyed that hope. She had seen through her father's false facade; he was someone who could truly sacrifice everything for the power he possessed.

Seeing Nisha's inaction, Grand Baki Nos didn't care what she was thinking. The situation was extremely critical for him; perhaps in a few seconds, that vengeful son would appear before him. And when that time came, it would mean the end of everything.

The Grand Baki Nos, driven close to madness, glared at his daughter with a ferocious expression, harshly questioning her.

"What, are you also going to defy me? Are you going to betray me too?"

Nisha didn't respond to her father, instead silently charging towards Zhou Yi. At this moment, she probably only felt resolve, determined to use her life to carry out the final order her father had given her, and then let the filthy blood flowing through her veins perish.

The Grand Baki Nos abandoned his daughter, hoping to buy himself a last sliver of life. To be able to go to such lengths for himself, he was undoubtedly a true schemer. However, he had miscalculated one thing. Nisha's strength couldn't stop the Dawn Knight, and he wouldn't be able to grasp this meager chance of survival.

Nisha rushed towards Zhou Yi and threw a punch at his head. Her fair fist struck the hard helmet, failing to produce even a tremor. For Zhou Yi, the vampire's power was simply too weak. Not to mention his own defense, the Dawn Armor alone was enough to render a bare-handed vampire helpless.

And Nisha wouldn't get another chance to attack. Zhou Yi reached out, grabbed her fist, and forcibly twisted her body. In a single move, he had her pinned in his embrace. Meanwhile, the Grand Baki Nos hadn't even moved twenty meters away.

A whistling stream of air tore through the floor in front of the Grand Baki Nos. The air blade produced by the supersonic hand-knife immediately made the Grand Baki Nos freeze in place, not daring to move. Zhou Yi walked towards the petrified Grand Baki Nos step by step.

"At first, I just thought your body was disgustingly rotten, but now I think your heart matches your body perfectly. I've never been so eager to kill someone before, and you're the first!"

From a certain perspective, Grand Baki Nos's actions had crossed Zhou Yi's bottom line. Abandoning family, regardless of the reason, was, in Zhou Yi's eyes, deserving of death.

Watching Zhou Yi raise his hand knife high, Grand Baki Nos was surprisingly defiant.

"Dawn Knight, you cannot kill me. Or rather, if you kill me, you will definitely regret it."

Zhou Yi remained silent, his arm still raised. He wanted to see what tricks Grand Baki Nos could pull in this situation.

The vampire duke clearly didn't want to waste time; there were more than one person here who wanted him dead. So, he simply took off his shirt, revealing a device partially embedded in his chest.

"From about ten days ago, my body started failing. The power of my heart's beating is diminishing day by day. To maintain my heartbeat, I installed this thing. It can give me a little boost and, at the same time, monitor my heartbeat."

"And the monitoring data is in the hands of the person I trust the most. So, Dawn Knight. Have you noticed that some people are missing around me?"

Zhou Yi thought about it, and indeed. From the beginning until now, he hadn't seen the vampire butler who he'd severely wounded. Considering a vampire's recovery abilities, he should have been here protecting his master.

"I think you've already guessed. My most loyal butler is currently on a flight to London. He has an instrument that monitors my heartbeat. This instrument is impervious to any microwave interference and doesn't interfere with anything else. If my heartbeat has any problems, he will release something lethal on the plane. As a superhero, I don't think you can just watch hundreds of people die because of me, and then have me die with them."

Grand Baki Nos's methods were despicable, but they were effective against Zhou Yi. He couldn't let hundreds of people die just for his own sake; it wasn't worth it.

He looked at Grand Baki Nos, who kept crossing his bottom line with his methods just to survive, yet he couldn't kill this venomous snake. He had to admit that much. The Vampire Duke was worthy of the title, a treacherous individual who carried out his schemes to the bone.

"I promise to let you and your daughter go. Contact your butler. Stop this evil plan!" Zhou Yi compromised in the face of the conspiracy. This was the first time he'd compromised under threat, not a threat to himself or those around him, but to the lives of hundreds of innocent people. It was direct and effective, making him afraid to cross the line.

"No, I don't trust you," the Vampire Duke replied stiffly. People as insidious as him wouldn't believe any promise, even from a hero.
