Jefferson's POV
I gunned the engine the second Gordon dropped into the passenger seat. The car lurched forward as I floored the accelerator, leaving nothing but tire marks on the asphalt.
The silence between us stretched on, and I found myself mentally counting how long Gordon could possibly keep his mouth shut. It became a game of sorts, watching the numbers climb in my head.
The seconds ticked by endlessly.
"So," Gordon finally broke, his voice carrying that familiar note of amusement, "I get that you wanted to stick it to her old man by scheduling the wedding right on his deadline. But don't you think the actual bride deserved a heads up before you made the announcement public?"
I kept my focus on the road ahead, weaving through traffic with practiced ease. The city rushed past us in a blur of concrete and glass as I took the turn toward Harding headquarters. "What would be the point in that?"
