Chapter 11 - Insanity 3: A Mechanical Heart (1)

Humans have countless emotions. Each emotion has its own name.

One of them is love.

Love has many definitions. It can't be defined in just one sentence.

Love takes many forms. It can't be expressed in just one way.

Love has many names. One of them is affection.

Humans love and hate. Humans care and hurt.

A newborn baby will love both parents. A mother provides affection filled with warmth. A father cares and protects. A love called family.

Love is not limited to anything. Even to an object called a robot.

"A robot doesn't have a soul."

"True."

"They only run on a written program."

"Yes."

"But what if a group of machines were designed in such a way that they could learn anything?"

"Even about affection?"

In a developed country with the most advanced and leading technological innovation ever. Researchers are innovating everything from everyday appliances, vehicles, healthcare facilities, public facilities, and even security systems, all based on artificial intelligence.

Although the implementation of such automated systems is not yet fully widespread across the country, researchers continue to innovate and develop them.

While artificial intelligence technology has indeed been very helpful, it is still not widely accepted by society. Many older people still don't understand technology. And even for young people, the increasing sophistication of artificial intelligence not only makes things easier for them but also threatens their jobs.

What if such advanced technology replaces existing humans? Despite this, research continues.

At least they might be able to find a solution that doesn't harm anyone. However, despite their goal of improving and simplifying society, some still desire more. And perhaps that is what is called insane.

One night, in a hidden building far from the city center, in a small room, eight people sat behind a circular table.

"According to reports from our spies, the 'Absolute Childe' research project has been confirmed complete. However, according to information, several more tests are still needed before it can be revealed to the public." A man dressed all in black spoke.

"When are the remaining tests expected to be completed?" The man in front of him, with a thick black mustache, asked.

"According to reports, about a week."

"We don't have much time." Said another man.

A man with a bandage on his right arm flipped through the pages of a document handed to him by the man in black.

"Project 'Absolute Childe' successful, subject Codename: Twelve."

"It seems like it took a lot of experimentation to produce this one." Said the man with the bandage on his arm.

"So, who will take it?" Hearing that question, everyone in the room turned to one person.

"I'll be leaving in two days." A man who appeared to be in his thirties with ash-blonde hair and slightly gloomy blue eyes.

The meeting ended.

The largest laboratory in the city center, Valley Science Technology. In a white room filled with sophisticated equipment, a large tube with clear glass walls sat. Inside the tube was a figure.

A little girl, who looked about seven years old. Her body was covered in numerous cables. With long, violet hair, she appeared to be sleeping in a tube filled with a water-like liquid.

"Wouldn't it be better if her hair were black, or perhaps blonde?" Asked a person wearing a long white coat.

"It's no problem, we can change it anytime. Besides, we still need a few more tests. Her hair color will make it easier for us to tell if she's not human." Replied a person wearing the same long white coat.

Around their necks hung an identification tag. They were researchers in this laboratory.

"Finally, the project we've been working on for twenty years has yielded results."

"Yes, you're right. Even though she looks like a child, she can control all available information. And she could destroy an entire country."

"And with her appearance, no one would suspect she's dangerous."

"But even so, before she takes the final test, she's no different from any ordinary child."

"We just have to be patient. Because this time it will definitely work. The perfect prototype, Twelve."

...

It was midnight inside Valley Science Technology. All the rooms were deserted because the researchers had gone home.

Some of the people monitoring the security cameras had passed out. Some of the security cameras had been damaged by someone.

A man dressed entirely in black, covering his head, face, and feet, revealing his gloomy blue eyes. The man broke open the door to a room accessible only with registered ID.

The man entered a room. Inside was a large cylinder and a child inside. The man frowned at the sight of the child.

"They're bastards." The man carefully unlocked the code according to the information he had been given.

The water in the cylinder began to drain. The cables attached to the child's body began to uncoil. The cylinder door opened. The man prepared a large bag the size of the child. After placing it inside, the man scanned his surroundings.

In the corner of the room was a door, inside which were several documents. They were probably research reports.

The man placed a bomb inside the room and closed the door. Then, in the room where the cylinder was located, he also placed three bombs.

After that, he left the building. After walking a few meters, the man pulled out a button and pressed it. A loud explosion was heard. The fire alarm immediately sounded. The man disappeared into the darkness.

Hearing the warning alarm, all the guards on duty immediately ran to the scene.

"Why isn't the automatic fire extinguisher working?"

They grabbed fire extinguishers. With the fire's intensity, they had difficulty extinguishing it.

"Call the fire department!"

Because of the fire's intensity, they decided to flee. After a few minutes, the fire department arrived. It took about an hour to extinguish the fire.

Finally, it was extinguished. Several researchers were informed that one of the laboratory rooms had exploded and caught fire. Their faces turned slightly pale.

The research subject, 'Absolute Childe,' Codename: Twelve, had disappeared.
