Chapter 24 - lady of the night

The lady of the night - chapter 24

The monsters came in waves. Not a few, not dozens — but hundreds, spilling like a dark tide across the cracked desert crawling out of the sands with claws sharp they clawing on each other in hunger. Abyss sat lazily on a boulder, arms folded behind his head, watching the others tear into the horde.

"Don't even think about it," Ethan barked, pointing at him. "You said you wouldn't interfere this time!"

Abyss smirked, laying back further. "Fine, I'll nap. Wake me when someone's dying."

The others rolled their eyes but pressed on.

Leo was the loudest, as always. Pillars of flame erupted from the ground with each step he took, vaporizing monsters before they could even screech. He laughed as fire curled around him like a crown as he walk the ground turn to molten glass as he ripple into them one by one

Clarita copied him, igniting her own flames — but hers were straightforward jets, blasting directly forward. She panted, cheeks puffed, watching Leo spiral his fire into arcs and crescents.

"How is he doing that?!" she muttered.

Arthur, his twin blades dripping ichor, sidestepped a drakon's snapping jaws. "Because you overthink it. Not every attack needs to be efficient, Clarita. Sometimes—" he kicked the beast backward into Leo's vortex "—it just needs style."

Leyla chuckled at that. "Style over substance. Sounds like your love life, Arthur."

"Don't start," Arthur shot back, cutting down two more skeleton magicians.

Ethan slammed his fist into the ground. The earth split open, cracking like a mirror. Leo immediately took advantage, pouring fire into the crevice. A roar of molten heat swallowed dozens of monsters whole.

But the skeleton magicians weren't done. Chanting in unison, they dragged the charred bodies of fallen beasts into the fissure. The corpses twisted, melded, and reshaped until a drakon burst free, scales forged from monster bone, eyes glowing like embers.

"Are you kidding me?!" Jack groaned, running forward anyway. He slashed into the creature's side. "Wooh! Teamwork! High five me!"

He slapped Ethan's hand, then reached for Leo's. Leo obliged — except when their palms met, a shockwave erupted. Ethan and Jack were launched backward like ragdolls.

Clarita and Leyla burst out laughing, clutching their stomachs. "Oh gods—your teamwork is literally explosive!"

Even Homan, fighting further away with his floating orbs spiraling around him, smirked. His greatsword carved through the lesser beasts while Imad siphoned stray energies, adapting his armor to pulse with stolen strength.

Abyss yawned, already half-asleep.

The drakon fell. The monsters dissolved. For a brief moment, silence they goes back to the ship as they float just a little bit into the sky the group just recovering as they joke around having fun but

Then the sky ripped open.

A shadow of wings blotted the sun as fallen Valkyries descended — armored maidens twisted in aura, their presence soaked in corruption just like an iraclis.

"Valkyries?" Arthur muttered, spinning his blades. "That makes no sense. We're in Olympian territory—"

"Who cares!" Leo roared, blasting upward with a lion-shaped spiral of fire. The flames swirled like a predator hunting prey.

The Valkyries dodged gracefully, their spears slashing arcs of light. Homan's eyes narrowed; his orbs absorbed the energy. His armor shifted as imad the orb formed his armor to have floating shoes aka , sprouting thrusters that lifted him into the air.

"Now we're even," he muttered, flying up to clash with them.

Clarita tried echoing Homan's ability, but her mimicry failed without the armor since his power came from imad and the armor. She bit her lip, frustrated.

Abyss finally stood. "You guys are boring." He touched each of them lightly — and suddenly, they hovered, wind curling beneath their feet.

Arthur's eyes widened as he felt himself lifted. "Alright… I take back what I said. Style and substance."

The battle shifted into the air, the group clashing with the Valkyries in mid-sky chaos. But then the enemy pulled together, wings folding into formation.

"HOLY LANCE!" they cried.

Their spears merged into a single blinding javelin of divine energy. With a scream, they hurled it at the ship.

The explosion ripped through the hull. Wood splintered. The deck burst apart. The ship buckled and fell, throwing the group across the sky.

They crashed into the land below in scattered fragments of flame, sand, and smoke.

But their was abyss pov

Abyss hit the river. He cursed the water instantly, kicking against the current.

"Poseidon, you bastard! I know you can hear me! I don't care if you can't—bitch!"

The water shimmered. Behind him, a presence coiled. Dark, elegant, suffocating. A woman, beautiful and terrible, her aura pressing like endless night.

Nyx.

Her smile curved softly. "My little light in the darkness. You still curse the seas as if they matter."

Abyss froze. He remembered her face — glimpses from childhood, when he wandered Aphrodite's palace. Always in the corner of his eye. Always watching.

"You…" he muttered. "You were there. Who are you, really?"

"You…" he muttered. "You were there. Who are you, really?"

Her laughter rolled like velvet over broken glass. "They call me Lady of the Night. Always watching, always waiting. And you—" she brushed her hand against his chest, a gentle push "—you've always been mine"as she slowly dissolve her shadow hugging him she disappear to do her favorite hobby watching him for eternal nights

But before Abyss could dwell on Nyx's words though, a strange pressure tugged at his mind. He felt it—someone trying to manifest into his thoughts. Not truly here, not physical, but enough to project their image into his senses.

A voice slid in, mocking.

"You know he can hear you, right?"

It was about his earlier insults to Poseidon. Abyss smirked faintly.

"And? What's he gonna do—send me a wave? Please."

The figure ignored the jab, its tone shifting, heavier.

"No… what interests me is not your insolence. It's your darkness. It's deeper than Hades' punishments. Stronger. You should be using that to tear Olympus apart. Tell me—why haven't you betrayed them yet, after all they've done to you?"

Abyss didn't even bother to look at him. His voice came flat, dripping with disdain.

"Who the hell are you? I bet your face is as ugly as your intentions."

The figure chuckled, finally revealing himself.

"I am Loki. God of Mischief."

Abyss snapped back instantly.

"More like god of clowns." His eyes narrowed. "Let me guess—the Valkyries were yours. Not corrupted, just one of your little illusions. A trick, so Olympus would think they've gone rogue, right?"

Loki's grin widened. "Clever boy. Yes. My little… special effect."

Still not looking at him, Abyss let the words hang, then muttered,

"No. That's not your real power. It's not illusion—it's conviction. Whatever lie you can make people believe… you twist reality into it. Your lies are your weapon."

Finally, Abyss turned his head and met Loki's eyes. His stare was sharp enough to cut.

"And now I can confirm my theory: your face is uglier than your intentions."

He stepped closer, slow and deliberate.

"Tell me something, clown. Am I supposed to be Odin's son? Some pawn meant to betray my own kind?" He didn't wait for an answer, voice rising. "No. Don't bother. Go tell Odin to go fuck himself."

Abyss pressed his palm against Loki's chest.

The god's smirk faltered. His form began to flicker, unravel, and fade—disappearing into smoke and static. Not even Abyss knew what he had just done… only that Loki was gone though
