Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Deducing the Special Class [Valkyrie]!

Among the three special classes [Asura], [Valkyrie], and [Disaster Apostle],

Aaron's initial target had been [Disaster Apostle].

Mare was a dark elf, a subspecies of human, so he had no racial classes. His entire build was composed of 100 levels of job classes.

That also meant this special class had no racial prerequisites.

Aaron actually knew quite a bit about Mare's various classes, and with the safety net provided by the Genius class, he might be able to brute-force his way to [Disaster Apostle]—even if it meant wasting one or two intermediate classes.

As for the other two—

[Asura] was the special class possessed by Cocytus.

Aaron had specifically studied these special classes. From the limited information on Cocytus's stat sheet, [Asura] did not seem to have an obvious connection to his other classes.

He suspected this special class might have been obtained through some special item or artifact.

As for [Valkyrie],

in both the anime and the light novels, there were currently two people known to possess it: Shalltear and Zesshi Zetsumei.

Both were women.

Aaron could not help suspecting this was a special class that only females could obtain.

With all that in mind,

Aaron had been forced to set his sights on [Disaster Apostle]. But now, the appearance of Priestess meant he might have acquired a kind of "female character buff."

So—

he might actually be able to obtain [Valkyrie] as his special class.

"Shalltear's [Valkyrie] is much clearer in terms of job structure than Mare's [Disaster Apostle]."

Aaron took a deep breath. While recalling the information in his mind about Shalltear, he raised a finger and began sketching on the ground.

Aside from Ainz, she was one of the two characters who appeared most frequently in both the anime and the light novels, so naturally the most information had been revealed about her.

Shalltear's level composition was:

20 levels of racial classes + 80 levels of job classes = overall level 100.

The classes explicitly shown on her stat sheet were:

Valkyrie/Lancer 5 Lv, Cursed Knight 5 Lv, and Priest 10 Lv.

In addition to these three, the light novels mentioned two more jobs: Blood Drinker and Cursed Caster.

Aaron was certain both of these were high-tier classes.

The reason he was so sure

was that Blood Drinker had a unique skill called "Blood Pool," which was demonstrated in Shalltear's battle with Ainz.

Cursed Caster, on the other hand, was said in the novels to have a negative side effect that caused Shalltear to go mad whenever she touched blood.

In the anime, when Shalltear first encountered Brain, after slaughtering those humans she suddenly went berserk. That had been because of this class.

The anime had simply not spelled it out.

In Overlord's game, any class with negative side effects was a strong high-tier class, using those drawbacks as a form of limitation.

So—

Valkyrie/Lancer 5 Lv

Cursed Knight 5 Lv

Priest 10 Lv

Blood Drinker 5 Lv

Cursed Caster 5 Lv

These were all the classes Aaron knew Shalltear possessed, totaling 25 levels, leaving a 55-level gap.

On the surface, it still seemed like too little information to deduce anything clearly.

But—

"Come on, this is a job for a STEM major." Aaron grinned, slipping into an excited state, like he was back in his previous life playing puzzle games.

He quickly circled two of the jobs he had written on the ground!

First, he set [Valkyrie] aside. Priest was a basic class and did not require much attention.

Next,

since he did not know enough about Blood Drinker, he could shelve it as well.

That left two high-tier classes, both of which should have their own prerequisite job chains.

Following the logic of math problems: treat the "unknowns" as variables and you could force your way to the "knowns."

Basic warrior job (unknown) 15 Lv → Intermediate warrior job (unknown) 10 Lv → Cursed Knight 5 Lv = 30 Lv

Basic caster job (unknown) 15 Lv → Intermediate caster job (unknown) 10 Lv → Cursed Caster 5 Lv = 30 Lv

That made 60 levels total, plus Valkyrie/Lancer 5 Lv, Blood Drinker 5 Lv, and Priest 10 Lv, for a total of 80 levels.

Exactly 80 job levels.

In an instant, Shalltear's build became crystal clear.

Blood Drinker was a high-tier racial class unique to the vampire race.

And among all these jobs, the only one that really stood out was the basic class Priest.

The other person known to possess [Valkyrie] was Zesshi Zetsumei of the Theocracy.

Among the powerful characters whose builds were more or less known, Zesshi was the only one with a completely revealed job structure:

Warrior: 10 Lv

Berserker: 10 Lv

Expert Warrior: 10 Lv

Low-tier Valkyrie/All-rounder: 5 Lv

Weapon Expert: 7 Lv

Thief: 1 Lv

Assassin: 5 Lv

Executioner: 10 Lv

Priest: 10 Lv

High Priest: 10 Lv

Inquisitor: 10 Lv

Eleven jobs, with an overall level of 88.

Judging by her levels alone, Zesshi belonged firmly in the world's top tier. But in terms of class structure, it was an absolute mess.

A job build that mixed three major branches—warrior, rogue, and divine caster—meant her overall strength was far lower than that of a level-88 player.

Her special class [Low-tier Valkyrie] could be understood as a degraded version of the true [Valkyrie].

The reason such a thing existed was that Zesshi had never actually met the true prerequisites for [Valkyrie], resulting in the incomplete phenomena unique to this other world.

For example,

the high-tier class [Ninja], which in the game required level 60 or higher, could be obtained in this world simply by learning its skills first.

But special classes were different. They came with extremely harsh prerequisites.

Aaron suspected Zesshi had used her innate ability to indirectly obtain this class. However, because of the strict conditions for special classes, she had only managed to acquire a degraded version.

And between Shalltear and Zesshi, the only job they both shared was Priest.

For the Theocracy's trump card, having the Priest class was perfectly normal—but Shalltear was undead.

She was a vampire, an undead, yet somehow had a holy-aligned class like Priest, and had not even raised it to max level.

There was only one possible explanation for that—

She had taken it specifically to fulfill some condition.

Light gleamed in Aaron's eyes, a flush of excitement coloring his cheeks as he pressed his palm hard against the ground. "Got you, [Valkyrie]!"

YGGDRASIL, the game, was actually built on Norse mythology.

The so-called "Valkyries" did not exist in the earliest myths by that name; they were originally called "Valkyrjar," meaning "corpse-eaters," an evil concept.

Later, they gradually evolved into "women who choose the slain," becoming more sacred. The legendary Valhalla was linked to the Valkyries in some way.

Putting the lore aside for the moment—

The job requirements for [Valkyrie] were very likely: female, basic class Priest, and high-tier class Cursed Knight.

The reason it was Cursed Knight rather than Cursed Caster was that [Valkyrie] was a warrior-focused special class, not a caster-focused one.

"Phew…"

Aaron clapped the dust from his hands and let out a long breath, then lifted his foot and wiped away the seemingly messy Chinese characters on the ground.

No one in this world could read Chinese anyway, but being careful never hurt.

"The high-tier class Cursed Knight, according to the game's settings, requires being at least level 60 and meeting its class-chain prerequisites."

"But with the way jobs are obtained in this world, I should be able to get a high-tier class directly by first learning its skills."

Aaron braced his hands on his knees, then stood up, patting the dust off his backside as he muttered with a smile,

"If memory serves, there's someone in the Baharuth Empire who has the Cursed Knight class."

Figuring out the job requirements for a special class—while still far from a sure thing—at least gave him a chance to try.

Aaron felt his heart settle slightly.

"The one in the Baharuth Empire won't just vanish."

"So next, I need to level up first, then head to the Baharuth Empire to obtain the high-tier class Cursed Knight."

With a clear goal in mind, Aaron no longer hesitated and set off toward the Adventurer Guild.
