It was a long time before Bulma finally regained control of her emotions.
After calming down, she immediately thought of the unconscious Gohan.
"Speaking of which, is Gohan alright? You said if he didn't wake up, he might become a vegetable," Bulma asked with concern.
"It's fine. The hardships of these past years filled that boy's heart with despair. With no one to rely on, now that he finally has a chance to rest, let him sleep a few more days," Vegeta said as his gaze shifted toward the room. "No matter how beautiful a dream is, it's still just a dream. He'll wake up naturally when he's ready."
Hearing this, Bulma felt a surge of emotion and nodded. "That's good."
She understood how difficult it had been for Gohan. For years, he had fought alone against Android 17 and Android 18, carrying every burden on his shoulders. He was exhausted.
"Let's go for a walk. There are some things I want to discuss with you privately, and you can tell me what's happened all these years," Vegeta said as he walked toward the door.
Bulma followed.
They arrived at a cliff outside and walked side by side, the scenery stretching before them. Though remote, the landscape was beautiful. Bulma had chosen this place well.
At the cliff's edge, Vegeta discussed everything he knew about time and space in detail. He handed her the past Bulma's research notes on the time machine, along with a letter written to her future self.
Vegeta had not read the letter. Bulma had told him it was a secret meant only for her future self, and even as her man, he respected that.
After reading it, Future Bulma seemed noticeably different. She looked more confident, as if she had come to terms with something.
Curious, Vegeta eventually learned its contents.
Most of it was emotional, full of comfort and encouragement. But the final paragraph was crucial.
The past Bulma had guessed that this future timeline might have reached an irreversible point. She had anticipated the hardships her future self would face and even invited her to return to the past to live together.
On the surface, traveling between parallel timelines seemed simple. But according to her research and simulations, things were far more complicated. The existence of Cell from another future timeline had already proven that time travel could create uncontrollable consequences.
Even if no drawbacks had been discovered yet, that did not mean none existed.
"This is our timeline, our world. Like a home. It isn't something we can abandon so easily. To prevent further temporal chaos, we must stop additional time travel and allow time to restore its balance."
At this point, Bulma's emotions fluctuated greatly.
Vegeta understood. As someone with knowledge of how parallel timelines worked in the Dragon Ball world, he knew the risks.
"There's something you might not know. It wasn't because Future Cell came to our timeline that our future changed. It was because I already knew what would happen, which allowed me to turn the tide and eliminate the threat early. That's why I had the past Bulma research the time machine and travel to the future," Vegeta said calmly.
He couldn't reveal everything, but foresight was a convincing explanation.
Under Bulma's incredulous gaze, Vegeta told her about his experiences. Most of it was true, with a few carefully blended alterations.
"This is incredible. Foresight? And in that past timeline, it wasn't Goku who became a Super Saiyan and defeated Frieza, but you? You killed Frieza and changed so much, but why? I can't understand it," Bulma said.
She was too intelligent not to notice inconsistencies.
Vegeta sensed it was best to change the topic.
"What surprises me is that I should have gone to the timeline of that Future Cell, yet I came here instead. Perhaps time and space are more unstable than we think. There may be more than one branching timeline existing simultaneously."
"I see. My understanding of time and space is still lacking. Can I see the time machine my past self built? Studying it might give me new insights," Bulma asked.
"Of course. Now that I'm here, I won't leave until every threat is eliminated. I also promised Trunks I would train him. As for Gohan, I'll consider when to leave after he wakes up."
Bulma smiled with relief.
"Thank you. That child has always worked so hard. It means a lot that you'll teach him."
Vegeta stepped forward and embraced her.
He accepted this Future Bulma. Age meant nothing to him. Though she looked older and more worn, she was still beautiful.
Future Bulma did not resist. For years, she had lacked someone strong to lean on.
Just like that, three days passed.
During those days, Vegeta brought Bulma, Trunks, and the unconscious Gohan back to their home in West City.
At first, Bulma and Trunks were hesitant. The terror of Android 17 and Android 18 still lingered. But Vegeta declared confidently that they were no longer a threat.
After all, even Cell had already been eliminated.
West City lay in ruins. Many buildings were destroyed, and most survivors had fled to rural mountains to avoid the Androids. In this apocalyptic world, people simply tried to survive each day.
Fortunately, their home still stood. The intelligent robots Vegeta brought repaired the damage efficiently.
Inside the 1000x Portable Gravity Training Room, Vegeta began Trunks's special training.
The gravity was set to 100 times Earth's gravity.
Considering Trunks's lack of formal training, it was appropriate.
Even so, it took Trunks two full days to adapt to 100G.
His base power was already over a million, and he could transform into a Super Saiyan, yet he had never trained systematically.
Still, he never complained.
"That's enough for today. Starting tomorrow, the difficulty doubles," Vegeta said as he shut off the gravity.
"Yes, Father," Trunks replied, wiping sweat from his face.
Though exhausted, he was happy. His father was training him personally.
He could already feel his control over ki improving.
Meanwhile, Gohan lay in a guest room upstairs.
For three days, he had been in a deep sleep.
In his dream, he reunited with his family and friends. He spoke words he had suppressed for over a decade.
Eventually, he realized it was an illusion.
Reluctantly, he said goodbye.
In that spiritual world, he dined with Goku and Chi-Chi. He sparred with Piccolo. He visited Krillin, Yamcha, Tien Shinhan, and Chiaotzu.
One by one, he said farewell.
Then—
In the real world, Gohan suddenly sat up and opened his eyes.
After a long moment of confusion, he looked around. The room was unfamiliar, yet something about it felt nostalgic.
His body ached terribly. His wounds from battling Android 17 and Android 18 had barely healed despite three days of rest and Bulma's basic medicine.
Still, Saiyan resilience allowed him some mobility.
He staggered toward the door and stepped into the hallway.
The more he walked, the more familiar it became.
Aunt Bulma's house in West City.
Clutching his wound, he tried to sense ki.
Soon, he felt Bulma's energy. Trunks's energy.
And then—
A powerful, familiar ki.
"This… this ki is…?"
Gohan's eyes widened.
He would never mistake it.
Ignoring the pain, he rushed to the balcony and looked into the distance.
Two figures approached.
Trunks.
And Vegeta.
He hadn't been wrong.
It really was Uncle Vegeta.
Despite his injuries, Gohan used the Bukujutsu and flew toward them.
Landing before them, Trunks exclaimed, "That's great! You're finally awake, Master Gohan!"
Gohan nodded, but his eyes never left Vegeta.
His voice trembled. "Are you really Uncle Vegeta?"
Vegeta smirked.
"What kind of expression is that? Do you think anyone could impersonate me?"
That tone. That arrogance.
Gohan finally believed it.
Uncle Vegeta had truly returned.
