Curtis Rodney's eyes darkened when he saw Lara's pale expression. Is she surprised to see him occupying the CEO's office? That's the jurisdiction of his job's description after all.
He saw her, looked away and saw how restless she'd become. In seconds, he accessed her, from her head to her toes, and he sneered.
She's dressed in a cheap , unattractive dress. Her makeup was plain and her shoes were like those gotten from old stores with peanuts.
He walked over and around her alone before returning to sit behind his desk. The others that came with her, knew that there's something about her that probably made the boss glare at her.
But the looks on his face are not those of admiration but resentment. Had she crossed the wrong person in the past without realising it?
"Weren't you informed that the employees of the Millennium group of companies are usually beautifully dressed and smart?" Curtis demanded in a tone of mockery.
Everyone glanced at their clothes and Lara also did. Her clothes are not that bad anyways. They're not the latest but once upon a time, they were the best in the fashion world.
Since she hardly wears them, because she's a full house wife, she kept them and in times like this, she would put them on. And that's exactly how it is now.
As Lara glanced at herself, she didn't take note when the CEO fixed his gaze on her, making everyone know he was referring to her dressing until she felt a cold gaze was on her.
She raised her head quickly to see him glaring at her. She then knew he was referring to her. She pouted her lips and said nothing.
"I hate it when an insane person is employed as a junior designer in my company. Such people are meant to be footmat where I trampled upon and not an employee who deserves any reward and that's who Lara Edmund is" Curtis Rodney mocked.
Lazarus Doe waited to see if she would respond by saying she can never be his foot mat but she didn't say anything. Oh, had she lost the ability to tongue lash other people now?
Why isn't she saying anything to him? She glanced at Lara but saw her quiet. The silence that followed Curtis' words was not what Lazarus expected.
The others introduced themselves and when it was Lara's turn, Curtis sneered at her and hissed "get out" he ordered coldly at Lara.
As she hurried her steps and got away, the manager who took them in asked "You have crossed the boss, and I must say that you might be having hard days, working here"
"I didn't know he was the CEO" Lara was not comfortable. What is she going to do now? She needs this job. Hopefully she might be having a baby in a couple of months time if the insemination turns out successful.
And grandma, she's sick. She has bills to pay in the hospital and she needs to have savings. There is so much on her shoulders. And if she lost this job now, what would she do?
"If you can, maybe you should try and apologise to him" one of her colleagues suggested and her immediate boss agreed on that. That would be better for her.
Still in that furious state, Lara returned to the CEO's office and knocked. Curtis was staring at her from the monitor. She's returning back to run her mouth again?
When she stepped in, she stood in front of him,her arms folded below her belly with her fingers intertwined.
"I didn't know you were Curtis Rodney sir. I didn't realise that you are the CEO when I told you to stay within your job's description…"Lara was saying when Curtis interrupted her.
"Your words infuriate me and your face irritates me. Get out of my face" Curtis ordered.
Lara sighed softly and was leaving when Rodney declared "get her transfer to the lowest floor and get her a uniform. She should be working as a cleaner"
"Yes sir," Lazarus responded. Lara paused and glanced back at Curtis Rodney. Was he really going to have her demoted to the lowest rank in his company, simply because she crossed him?
She wanted to retort back at him, but kept herself from saying anything. But then Lazarus instructed "pick your belongings and meet me at the last floor"
At this point, Lara couldn't hold back, she flared up "I have been employed in the company as a designer and that's who I am. You can't do this, to toil with my emotions and toss me around like the pendulum of a clock…"
"This isn't your father's company, okay? You will quietly take the position you have been offered or tender your resignation" Lazarus scowled.
"I will not take it. I am a graduate and not some high school dropout. You hired me and as quickly as you did, you demoted me. This is being cruel, Curtis Rodney" Lara seethed.
Curtis Rodney's gaze was filled with rage. How dare this scumbag address him by his full name and tell him he was being cruel? No one ever talks that way to him, not even his employees and family.
"Lazarus, through this psychopath out of the gates of the millennium entertainment world. The next time you see her around this premises, shoot her!" Curtis ordered.
He cannot harbour a lioness among his employees, she would eventually tear them all apart. What the heck!
Few minutes later, Lara was escorted out of the company by the security guards. Her eyes were welled up with tears. Now, she'd lost her job. Was she too feisty?
Then she remembered her grandma, she's hospitalised. Then her hope of getting positive with the insemination. How is she going to survive if it turns out to be positive?
Lara decides whatever happens, she's going to find a job, no matter how menial it is, to take care of herself and pay her bills. It was until she got home that some reality awaited her.
The mortgage company who owns the house her grandma was living in was waiting for her just in time as she got there. Her grandma was unable to pay up the money and the interest has accumulated.
There's only one option, they've come to take over the house and she is expected to have moved her things out despite the letter of notification they sent to her grandma a few days ago.
A letter of notification?
Was it the same day she found her grandma in an unconscious state?
