Chapter 1 - the beginning of the end

In a world where the three great nations ruled the land, our protagonist lived in a small town, surrounded by the people he loved most—his family.

Although he had no friends, he had a sister named Nyra.

"Nyra, get up. It's time to go to school," our protagonist, Theron Vexar, said.

"I'm not going to school today. It's combat day, and you don't want your adorable little sister getting hurt, do you?"

Nyra sighed, fatigue heavy in her voice.

"Fine. Stay home. I'm not gonna help you when your work piles up to hell."

Theron groaned in annoyance—but she always knew how to hit his weak spots.

Their parents were still asleep, so Theron rushed out of the small house, excited to head toward school.

Six hours passed.

Exactly two hours before school ended—

Theron's teacher ran into the classroom, bloody and battered.

"Lesson's over! Break the windows and RUN!"

Theron froze.

Is this a drill?

His breath hitched.

What about my family?

Without hesitation, he shattered the window and sprinted past burning houses, smoke filling the sky.

When Theron finally reached home, his hands shook as he opened the door.

His father lay on the floor—lifeless.

In the corner, his sister was crying… one eye gone.

Eyes once bright and warm, now dim.

Theron followed her gaze.

There it was.

His mother—being raped by two men.

A third stood by, watching.

Theron's eyes locked with the burly man's.

He charged forward, rage clouding his judgment.

Isn't this kid scared of me at all?

A kick slammed into Theron's chest, knocking the air from his lungs.

"I like you, kid," the man said.

"Reminds me of when I was younger… when I was powerless. But life taught me something."

"The strong rule the weak."

"No! Please—don't hurt my son!"

His mother cried out, pain and resolve breaking through her voice.

"Do whatever you want to me—just leave my baby alone!"

That was it.

The final straw.

Theron collapsed, tears streaming as everything he loved—his family, his village—was torn away.

He rested his head on the cold floor.

"Oh no you don't."

Theron's body flew across the room, slamming into the wooden wall with a sickening crack.

The burly man approached him.

"You think I'll let you off that easy?

You're going to watch. Every second of it."

Five hours passed.

The moon rose high.

Theron passed out from exhaustion.

The next morning—

"Boss… I think we found someone.

Is that… two kids?"

Nyra had crawled beside her brother in the night.

"Hey… are you alright?"

Theron's eyes slowly began to open.
