"...."

.

.

The light in my head snapped shut.

Silence.

Then the sword dropped.

A clean slice was followed by a flash of white light, there was no pain, no struggle, just an instant cut through flesh, bone, and thought.

And everything just went dark.

.....

In a void…

Nothing moved.

Nothing breathed.

There was no up or down.

No body.

No sound.

Just an endless black stretch that felt neither cold nor warm—a place without time. It was a void so profound that even death was quiet here, unable to make a sound.

Then, a pulse rippled through the blackness, soft at first, like a heartbeat felt deep underwater.

Thump.

The absolute darkness stirred. A faint outline floated in the newly agitated space, curled in on itself. It was a shape that wasn't flesh—a soul. Arthur's soul. Beside it, blurred, cracked, and drifting, was another, the otherworlder, the stranger who had worn his body. Two souls, suspended in the black, neither awake nor truly dead, yet not alive, they were simply waiting.

A thin thread of light flickered before them, as a voice, soft and distant, echoed through the emptiness, murmuring, "…Rebooting."

Another ripple spread through the void, followed by the soundless whisper of, "…Ten years…" The two souls twitched in response. Slowly, they drifted toward each other, pulled by a force they could neither feel nor understand, until their edges brushed.

One soul pulsed faintly with a memory: blonde hair, pink eyes, a small girl laughing near a tree, followed by a burning rage to kill someone— a woman with red hair and an elegant body. The other soul pulsed with something sharper: frustration, desire, longing, and a desperate refusal to disappear. They touched again, and a spark, thin and fragile, jumped between them. The void shivered as if something immense had drawn a deep breath. But the souls did not fuse—not yet. They lingered in the dark, bound by a countdown neither could hear anymore.

Ten years until the world remembered them.

Ten years until the frame rewrote itself.

Ten years until someone woke up.

In that silent void, time—slow, heavy, and invisible—began to move.

.

.

8 years later....

Eight years of stillness had passed, and the slow, steady process of fusion began. It wasn't a violent collision, but a soft melding.

The faint thread of light, the last beacon of the process, intensified, wrapping around the two souls like fine wire. Arthur's soul—the true owner of the previous body, the memory of home and the desire to seek revenge, resisted faintly. Yet, the stranger's soul was the active force. It didn't push or dominate, instead, it spread, as a cold, liquid darkness seeping into the pores of the original, carrying with it the baggage of its own forgotten existence.

It felt like tearing fabric and knitting it back together simultaneously. The intruder's consciousness, a tangled knot of frustration and fierce survival, began to dissolve, its raw energy filtering into the original host. Arthur's gentle, familiar memories were the first to suffer. They didn't disappear, but warped, taking on sharp, alien edges.

Then, the image of the laughing girl near the tree now came laced with a desperate hunger of defiance that wasn't Arthur's own. Conversely, Arthur's now raging desire to seek revenge began to creep into the stranger's core, turning the desperate longing into a focused, powerful will to act. They were not becoming a third entity, but a layered whole, two distinct pasts being forced into a single, complicated present.

With the blending came a shared echo. Not a full awakening, but a flash of pure, agonizing sensation, the feeling of a broken body striking the ground.

It was the memory of a death that wasn't quite a death, experienced from both perspectives. The shock of the host body collapsing, and the despise of the foreign soul finding itself inside. The fusion intensified with this jolt. The crack in the otherworlder's soul sealed itself as it absorbed Arthur's desires, while Arthur's soft edges sharpened, taking on a new tactical stance.

The fusion was almost complete, a single, glowing-dark silhouette replacing the two distinct shapes. The light thread around them snapped, and the voice returned, clearer this time.

"…Nine point nine nine years. Imminent Rebooting...."

The new, singular soul pulsed with a sudden, overwhelming knowledge. It remembered the name Arthur, but now also knew how to think nine steps ahead. It remembered the desire to seek revenge against the red haired woman, but also the brutal calculations of a desperate man fighting to find love. The countdown was almost over, and when it woke, it would not be Arthur. It would not be the otherworlder, It would be both.

.

.

Now fully fused, the new singular soul will awaken in a new body, another extra in the world of this romance fantasy, another unmentioned character to stir the purpose of the main characters. That body will still possess his soul, but that soul won't be fully suppressed, as it greatest desire will still be known, it will be a Trinity of souls, three souls in one body.

Rebooting Complete!
