Haward's here!
I stared at the familiar figure across the terminal, barely believing my eyes.
Behind him stood military doctor Steven Warren, my parents' old comrades, and two neat rows of uniformed soldiers.
The soldiers moved like one unit, their expressions grave and respectful.
The busy waiting area went dead quiet. Travelers gawked at the military personnel with wide eyes.
My vision blurred as tears threatened to spill.
I hadn't wanted to break down - not when those security guards surrounded me, not even when they zapped me with their stun batons.
But seeing Haward and these soldiers here to honor my parents... I nearly lost it.
The airport security team lowered their weapons, suddenly looking uncertain about their next move.
Looking at the soldiers before me brought back memories of my own service. I'd sworn an oath never to break the law.
Swallowing my rage, I lifted my foot off Grace's chest.
