Back in my apartment, I booted up my laptop and opened the email that had just landed in my inbox, my forehead creasing with concern.
'Who the hell sent me this anonymous message?'
Uneasiness crept through me like ice water.
Whoever sent this clearly knew I couldn't scrape together 30 million on my own, but mentioning that specific amount meant they expected me to hit up Jimmy for the cash.
Yet they'd warned me to keep my mouth shut about it to him.
So this sender had to be someone who knew both Jimmy and me.
I examined the account they'd provided—offshore, naturally. Once the money hit, they could grab it instantly with that password from anywhere in the world.
What really ate at me was how they knew I was hunting for my brother. 'Do they actually have real intel on him?' I wondered.
Just thinking about my brother made my chest tighten painfully.
I shot back a reply: [Why should I trust that you actually have information about my brother?]
